I've seen a stock 400 in a Z do mid-12s in the 1/4, and John Chandler has a 406 Z going 10.3 on nitrous. Yes it'll fit and survive if built right. Good luck!

You've made some respectable points. I know there's room for corruption, and I'm glad to see you're receptive to the idea that things could be improved. At the very least this type of system would usher in a whole new slant for the tv show "cops" to play on... What a wonderful idea! The biggest roadblock holding us up is that we can't seem to stop spending and so we keep having to pay more and more of our taxes for interest on the debt - some $400 billion or so this year(close to the entire defence budget or about 1/4 of the total budget) just in interest without paying down the debt! You probably paid close to $1,500 in taxes to cover your share last year with nothing to show for it. Your share will double within 10 years at this rate, gaining ground roughly 2 billion a day. Both Alan Greenspan and the World Bank lambasted us recently to get our financial house in order, I guess we'll see what happens. Hah, I suppose it's hard to resist throwing something in like this. If you hate commies it must really burn you to see $1.5 billion American dollars going to live in communist China every day, some never to return and others coming back as loans with a bit of interest. Maybe you've percieved my concern for our budget as more than it is, I love it here so much I'd rather put the problems on the table to discuss rather than trying to pretend our way clear of the troubles ahead. Anyway, happy motoring and thanks for the response.

Exactly - it has to matter to them, and a $200 ticket matters a lot more to someone making $1,600 a month than someone making $1,600 a day. Let's simplify the argument. Let's say money = blood, since for my example they are interchangeable. Two people get caught speeding, one is 5'2" and 110 lbs, the other is 6'6" and 350 lbs. Both are pulled over and are given the same penalty - they must give up 3 pints of blood. The smaller person is in a lot more danger, even though the punishment is the same. The bigger person just laughs and says "big deal, I can take it." Is justice equal in these cases? Are both punished accordingly? What lesson is learned by the bigger(richer) person? Tim made a good point about it - they often could care less. What really suprises me is how many average-income people are willing to defend the rich as if they are a persecuted class. Give me a break, they don't need any more cheerleaders. Last year, if you made over a million dollars a year, you got an extra $85,000 rather than the $300 that most families got, if that. The rich pay less in taxes now proportunately than any time in the last 100 years. Less tax money hasn't slowed down government spending either, and so the answer has been to borrow from social security to the tune of $120 billion last year alone. Yep, your social security payments are going to finance today's spending instead of your retirement, so while some get a nice big tax break, the average worker gets an uncertain future in return. Back to the ticket...what would be so unfair about saying everyone pays a fixed % of their monthly earnings for a ticket? Seems to me like everyone would feel the sting equally. Oh yeah, if your reading this and thinking to yourself "that wouldn't be fair - they'd target the rich!!!" Please keep this in mind, Ken Lay is still walking around free to spend the billions he looted and Rush can get high as a kite, all the while small-timers go to jail because they can't buy their way out with good legal advice. So I ask you, is this the sort of 'fairness' we should cherrish, or possibly look to improve?

Thank you for the ridealong!!! Your car seems very balanced and you drive it well...gotta love the sound of those triples too!

I asked the same question back in 2002 in jest, here's the thread: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5729&highlight= P.S. It gets pulled onto a tangent not having to do with the motor idea so skim it over. There is some useful info as I recall.

Yep, "sliding" scales of justice make sense to me too.

Hello DatsunLS6ZX, Anything is possible. 2500 hp in any car would require quite a bit of work. It would probably be as streetable as a firetruck powered by two jado rockets strapped on top. Even with 400 rwhp you'll have traction problems through third gear. With half the figure you're after you'd be able to peel out at 140. I think it's a great idea, follow your dreams.

That sounds like a great motor you've built, D!!!

I'll finish where Tim left off. If you want to put a pic into a thread once you've got it in your album, do the following: 1. click on your picture in your album to pull it up full-size 2. right click on the picture, hit "prpoperties" 3. highlight the web address (source) you see, right click on it, hit copy 4. Start a thread, click "img" for image, then right click and paste, then hit image again. It should look like this in your thread:

Once again a ton of awesome info...you are the man, Grumpy.

Does Richard Gere own it?

Funny to see you post this, I've been open to the idea of a 377 for a while...if it had lower compression and was closer I'd jump on it.

Is a 400 worth it? Pete Paraska ditched a very nice 327 in favor of a 406(400 block bored .030 over) and Grumpyvette has repeatedly said that a 406 is the way to go if you want power w/o much effort. In other news, Zfan is now well into the 11's with a 383 rather than his old 350, and Don Manzo is knocking on the 10-second door also with a daily-driver 383. How fast do you want to go? A 350 Z will be faster than most cars as it is, if this isn't good enough for you than step up to a 383 or 400.

I'd like to speak to you more about this, PM me with your phone # and I'll give you a call. Thanks, Brett -
The car is a Landau. Similar to a Falcon XB, but released as a luxury model under the Ford LTD banner...Australia-only car not marketed in the U.S. This one was modified w/ a 50's front bumper, among other things.

Man, I'm liking the idea of those frame rails...if you're interested in making some dough, maybe you could make them for my Z? No rush, I was going to look someplace local but seeing yours got me thinking. -
Alloy solids, 15x8.

Wow, Hanns just laid down an excellent recommendation!!! I'm running 1 5/8" Hooker blockhuggers w/ 327 in jtr configuration, with a 400 I'd jump on the bigger long-tubes.

I WANT YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS, GENTELMEN
Heavy Z replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
You've completely missed the point. Take a moment to re-read Grumpy's post. He makes it crystal-clear what he was upset about and it has nothing to do with what you've just inferred. While you're at it, re-read Pete's post directly above yours for further clarification. If you still don't get it, perhapse your manners are different than GVette's and in that case all you can really do is be considerate of this difference, rather than foisting your values onto someone you don't really know. That's what you just got from me. I hope it helps and no hard feelings. -
Pretty outrageous setup:

I had the same problem last year when you originally posted the video. I uploaded divx and it played fine...seeing that slick Z movin' out is worth a bit of hassle!

Grumpy, your knowledge has put most of us years ahead of where we'd be otherwise and for that we are truly fortunate to have you here. As you posted last week, you've got a great way of separating all your folders on your computer and so obviously the point David made appeals to your organizational side, but wording is everything and that's where things went in the wrong direction. I see this as a good learning experience as to how we word our "corrective requests" to other members, I know David's bummed because you are about the last person we want feeling unwelcome. Thanks again for all the help and please stick around, Brett
