I have always loved those cars. They were always too expensive for me. Too bad to hear they are so much upkeep.

You should be able to adjust the rear drums and the length of the E brake cable to allow the parking brake to work on hills. The 240's have decent parking brakes. If it is not working, then keep working on it until it does.
But if you go with the modern motorsport 240SX rear disk upgrade you will have a stock parking brake.

There have quite a few other threads about people adapting Maximum brackets to use OEM type rear disk calipers with integral parking brake functions. so you don't need to give up on a parking brake to get rear disks.

Picked up a car mag yesterday (I think Hot Rod) and they had an excellent article on the crate version of the LS7. Only looked at it briefly, but they did have a pic showing the LS7 uses special retainer caps to "prevent galling of the titanium valve stems".
Sounds like the LS7 stuff is going to be something new, so might explain why there is not a lot of info on it.
BTW, the article was extremely impressive. They had dyno runs showing the crate version makes 600 HP with the "stage 3 cam". They also showed a translucent plastic carb intake manifold on the crate motor. Friggen awesome.

If you people think that is anything other than an act of prostitution you are seriously delusional.
Googled barrister_07101. Got a personal web page of sorts. Check it out. You can vote him member of the month.

I am sure his friends, SWALLOWIN, SweetSaxyThang and Wetness, will vote for him. He probably picked up that pic surfing for tofu recipes.
Yeah, I am sure you guys are right. This woman is a regular Dali Lama of natural expression. I want to be one of her disciples . My kids will be better people if I pick up a ho and let them watch. Teach them how to toss a salad and all that.
-
In their defense, perhaps they thought the kid was asleep. Honestly now, how many of you with children have tried to sneak in a quicky while the kids napped? I have!
Oh man. No way. Gotta call you on this one.
Are you trying to tell us you and the wife have had sex in broad daylight while parked on a city street with an 8 year old in the back seat?
I don't think a beating with a coat hanger could f up a child's outlook on reality worse than something like this.

Yeah, that is one of the better articles on the subject. Has been posted before. should probably be added to the FAQ section somehow.
It is still hard for me to believe that the shafts can be accurately aligned using angle measuring devices on the outside of the casings. Hard for me to believe that any part of a tranmission or diff case is in line with the shaft axis. But it is done that way all the time so must be OK.

Sorry for the typo. I meant stock radiator and poorly shrouded fan. But if it works, it works. Maybe the electric water pump is what makes the difference.
And what did I tell you about the bumpers?
-
has anyone thought for a second that the man could be the father and woman just some nice lady that happened to be at the corner
I was thinking the same thing. Or that they might both be the kid's parents.
But odds are she is somehow related to the kid.
I wonder what country that is.

Cool car. Will be worth the effort to get it running. Engine is mounted in the scarab position. Can tell by how far the distributor is from the firewall. It is not a Scarab built car because Scarab replaced the Datsun side labels with their own markers. Doesn't mean they didn't use a Scarab kit to mount the engine and tranny. Hard to believe that tiny, poorly shrouded with a stock radiator fan keeps that beast cool.
Must be a late 71 version because it doesn't have the vents on the rear hatch. The body looks extremely clean. That is 99% of the battle. The wheels are also classic 240Z. I really like that look, but most guys tend to get rid of those for the 16+ inch wheels.
The bumpers on that thing by themselves are worth some $$. Very clean.
LT1 should not be too bad of a swap. Get the JTR manual and cook book it. Probably the cheapest way to a running V8 and manual transmission. You will have to replace the pedal box to get a clutch pedal, but IMO it is worth it because I don't like autos.
If you get a chance, post a pic of the V8 240Z badges.
As for worth with a rebuilt motor: probably not a whole lot more than with the shot motor. V8 conversions don't draw an extremely high price. $5k-$6K is a common price for a clean, running V8 Z. That one might be worth a little more since it is a first gen 240. Just spending a weekend cleaning that thing up, polishing a few bits and laying carpet could easly add $1000 to the sale price.

You guys are a little hung up on rotational inertia. Surely it plays a part, but making the rotational parts lighter (say out of ceramic materials) will reduce the rotational inertia but won't necessarily increase the flow through the unit.
Think of a variable pitch boat or airplane propeller. The pitch of the blades needs to match the speed of the boat/plane. Too much pitch at too slow of a speed and the motor just bogs. Too little pitch at too high of a speed and the motor over revs without making the boat/plane go faster.
Turbine impellors are designed to work best when a certain velocity and volume of air flows over them. The turbo must first convert exhaust pressure into the required airspeed through some type of nozzle. Smaller nozzles produce higher air speeds, but are also more restrictive so they flow a smaller volume of air.
An engine produces a certain volume of exhaust at any particular RPM. If the turbo is designed to work at that volume of exhaust flow, then maximum boost is created. If a bigger turbo is used, then the engine will have to rev more before enough exhaust flow is developed to drive that larger turbo.

Drive a modern POS fiat, that is the feeling I want, except with torque.
Try mixing a half cup of sand in with every oil change and maybe a little pancake syrup in with every tank of gas. That ought to get the reliability of your 302 down to what every Fiat owner enjoys.

Tubbing a Z is not a hugely popular mod. The handful of people who have done it are one offs, hand built exercises. IMO the mod is not for the faint of heart. There is enough info on this site to give you ideas, and of course most of the guys who have done it will answer questions. But any way you look at it it will involve some trial and error on your part. If you are looking for an easy solution, then I would consider a professional shop.

Seems like an aweful long way to rev past the redline doesn't it?
But, as you may know, the Z432 was a Japan only version of the Fairlady with a 2 litre, 4 valve per cylinder engine. Maybe it had a better high end.

Backfiring through the carb usually means wrong timing' date=' lean, or wrong firing order. Thats what I have experieced aleast.
Guy[/quote']
I will third or fourth that. Bad plug wires can cause cross firing, as can the distributor cap. Check the inside of the distributor cap for carbon tracing...deposits around the inside which are evidence of arcing. Also check for cracks. I had a car do what you describe and it was a bad cap.

Have to start pushing the Double D upgrades over the standard C cup models. Need the extra fees to pay off the Z.

.....make it count and be "all you can be " for them and " be LESS like yourselves " long enough to make the moments richer.
Love to all HB-Z peeps..Vinny 8)
Timely advice. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

The truely amazing thing is that there is that much aftermarket support for those. That means there is probably more than one sleeper xB's crusing the backstreets of America.
And on the next episode of "Pinks", the killer xB vs. a new Z06...

Three words: Little Green Machine.
Saved my marriage I kid you not.
Also sounds like you got off easy. In my house the lecture about leaving the 11 month old alone that long would have outlasted the clean up job.
-
Is it the rotational mass, or the design of the impeller blades that makes the turbo take so long to spool?
A smaller turbo is designed to flow less air. Thus only makes sense it will come on earlier (less exhaust flow), but then run out of breath quicker.
-
No I have nothing to be bitter about. Don't want you to be either. I knew so many guys in the Navy who joined up thinking they would be a diesel mechanic or a pilot and ended up as a cook or handling a paint chipper.
Nothing wrong with being a button pusher. I hope and pray our nation's best and brightest are the ones sitting in the silos. I also hope they sit there with an overwhelming sense of how important what they are doing is. I thank them.
But I am not making up the part about "coneheads" wearing glasses. Just make sure you understand what you are getting into. If you don't get a written guarantee for a specific job type, then they can assign you anywhere they have a need. Even the guys flying the transports are the cream of the crop.
-
Pilot billets are pretty competitive. Just remember, the missile silos in South Dakota are full of jet jockey wannabes with correctible vision.
-
Duh.
I read that when I did the swap.
That's what I mean about my memory. I'm not even 30. What's it going to be like when I'm 50 or 60?
you will spend less time thinking about sex and so will have more brain power left over for something useful.

Good read
Mario Andretti once said that no one is a born driver. It can only be learned from experience.

Not ot compound your problems, but Z's need antifreeze to keep the head from corroding and to lube the water pump.
Happy New Years! I resolve to get my car "done" this year! Resolutions?

Finished my house remodeling last year. Just a few weekend type projects left.
Goal for the next two months: Get the stock motor and brakes to pass safety inspection, get it licensed and back on the road, then the 4 wheel disk brake conversion. Oh, and buy an LS1/T56 before March.
Conversion to progress at a leisurely pace through the summer. Tear down for paint in a year or two (or three).
