  1. Nice pic of the torque arm on that Miata.

May be overkill, but the thing looks to have some advantages. Looks to have built in subframe connectors, a protected channel for the fuel lines, and works as a driveshaft loop.

Not sure how easy it is to get out of the way for maintenance (the fuel lines go under the thing) or what it would do to the ground clearance.

  2. Challenging the calibration on the radar happens ALL the time and usually doesn't work.

But you still have an argument claiming reasonable doubt. A coworker just went through this with his wife. They admitted, like you did, that she was speeding, but claimed the 90+ MPH the cop was claiming was no where near the speed she was traveling. They were on a crowded freeway, the cop tagged them (on radar) when he was coming from the opposite direction. It took him 15 minutes to catch her. The judge eventually dismissed the charge on reasonable doubt when she convinced him there was probably 100 different things that could have caused the cop or the machine to make an error. Everybody was polite about it, so I think that helped.

See if there are any doubts you can bring up. If nothing else just tell the judge what you said above and ask to have the ticket reduced. 90 MPH is going to be a pretty stiff fine so it is worth a shot.

BTW, borrow a hand held GPS to check your speedo calibration. Speedo shops are expensive. If it is off, tell the judge as a result of this ticket you checked and fixed your speedo. Might make him think this was an anomaly and he might go easy on you.

  3. I bet I could do an LS1 Swap into a Zcar in two weekends' date=' from start to sending it to the exhaust shop for pipes.

    Mike :2thumbs:[/quote']

Does that include upgrading the fuel tank (240Z), replacing the fuel lines (old 240Z), rerouting the brake lines, clutch hydraulics, all instrumentation working, AC and PS accessory removal, recored radiator and reprogramming the ECU to eliminate VATS and the second O2?

If you can do it in two weekends, then with basic tools, experience and lacking a shed full of old Z car/chevy parts, would you say a Hybrid virgin should have a reasonable chance of success working weekends over a 2 month period? While I’m at it won’t be an issue the first time through because I know everything will come back out next winter for paint (yeah, I hear you guys laughing…)

What is the consensus on John’s car’s kit? I don't like the idea of adding a second cross member, but if John's kit gets the engine in right the first time, then for me that would go a long way to ensuring a successful swap. How much trial and error is involved with engine placement with that kit?

  4. I remember SPIIRIT. He deleted his member ship at a time when a bunch of guys were getting snotty about wasted bandwidth.

I always wondered if that difficult period in HybridZ history didn't have something to do with his leaving.

  5. What would every happen to people like that if they found out no one cares enough about them or what they do to bother spying on them? Guess that is the point where they start blowing things up just to get someone to hide from.

Man, what a wasted life. Guess you can't be a failure if you never try.

BTW, what the hell are you doing on a site like that in the first place?

  6. Get rid of the clown car sized 23" wheels, make the roof line proportional to the body height, don't emulate the dodge 300 series brick shaped body with square corners and keep the overall weight down around 2800#. Basically put the pig on Midol to get rid of that "bloated" feeling.

For me, make it look like a Porshe Cayman S

Saw one of those the other day and man, what a gorgeous car.

  7. mabye at the same time he did the swap he decided to flip is rear axel upside down

Yes, that is exactly what he did, and even why he did it. Something about going around a circle track in one direction and wanting the engine torque pushing (I think) the inner wheel back down.

I had a farmer friend claim he once reverse charged a battery on his tractor. So when he started it the diesel ran backwards. I don't know if it is possible to reverse charge a battery, but I do know a diesel is just as happy to run backwards as forwards.

  8. I have an idea. Put spacers under the three bolts holding the bracket to the engine and mount the alternator facing backwards. That way the alternator will be in front of the belt. May have to flip that adjusting arm upside down and backwards also.

Only problem I can see is the alternator will spin backwards. I think the electrical part will be OK, but not sure what will happen to the cooling flow with that impeller going backwards.

  9. This one looks like a new DC product with a GM name.

Man, no kidding. A stinkin bloated charger with a faux 2002 Camaro scoop.

And GM is hurting not because of their performance car offerings, but because they can't compete with the Camary's, Civics and Minivans. I know it has been opinionated to death and that GM's quality is good nowadays, but it takes a long time to live down the rep they earned (right or wrong) in the 70's and 80's.

  10. That T top looks like serious trouble to me. But if the dash is uncracked it is worth the $900 all by itself. Bring a screw driver and a magnet, poke all the floor boards, battery area and metal in front of and behind both wheels. Use the magnet to check for bondo in the areas in front of and behind the wheels. Open the hatch and check for rust on the rear deck. If all those things check out, then it is easily worth 3 to 4 times what you plan to offer.

Still, I wonder what it would take to put the roof back together.

  11. I have lived all over the USA. The only place I have seen anything close to that (although not that bad) is my adoptive state of Maryland. I call it the Maryland merge. I watch the Maryland people closely. They come to a complete stop before they even attempt to check their mirrors or look over their sholder. What really drives me crazy is when they do it where the merge ramps opens up into a new, protected lane.

I lived in California for years and only once did I see some one stop at the end of an on ramp. Myself and half a dozen other cars went on the sholder to go around the moron. I wonder if that dildo is still sitting in that same spot afraid to move, horrified by all the crazy CA drivers passing him by.

  12. Harbor Freight may not have high quality dollies, but what they do have a wide selection of low cost casters

    http://order.harborfreight.com/EasyAsk/harborfreight/results.jsp

I don't have any experience with car dollies, but I have made enough movable work benches and tool dollies to know wheel diameter is what makes all the difference in how easy somthing is to roll over a dirty shop floor.

Get the 5", 330# swivel casters from HF for $5 each, weld together a rectangle of used 2" pipe from a salvage yard and you will have a custom fit set of 4 dollies for less than $100. Should handle 1200# each. Get a little more creative and you can make a bolt on attachment that connects to the lug nuts and allows the car to be moved without tires.

Or better yet, I found some old shopping carts dumped in the woods. Would be easy to use those casters to make it a $20 project.

  13. That was one hell of a game. I still can't believe Texas won. I don't know if it was just the type of defense Texas chose to run, but USC has one hell of an offensive line. They were opening huge holes all night.

Not many punts in that game.

  14. Kind of amazing this sort of practice is allowed to exist.

I am not a big fan of making laws, but seems like this sort of thing could be made illegal. Somebody has to be collecting all the info these programs send out.

In my case the microsoft program found things the half dozen or so other programs did not. Trouble is the programs keeps popping up windows asking whether I want to allow a DLL to be installed or an update to macromedia flash something or the other. Why ask me? How the hell should I know?
