The pic from the gas station is from last year before i put it away. I've started the engine. That was a huge relief. Here are the things i've got left to do. Shorten Driveshaft Finish intercooler piping Get exhaust made up wire the speedo, tach, wideband o2 gauges. and put some plastic pieces of the interior back in. I'm hoping to have it back on the road in the next couple of weeks. The car is a 73 240z. In terms of what you need: Make sure you have a large budget and even more patience. I am finding the wiring the hardest part of the whole job. Thankfuly I've had a lot of help. Your going to need motor and tranmission mounts. I bought mine from http://www.whiteheadperformance.com in toronto ontario. You can also get them from http://www.vildinimotorsport.com and http://www.mckinneymotorsports.com You will need intercooler, piping, exhaust, You need your drive shaft shortened. I ran a fuel cell. You might be able to use your stock gas tank if its Fuel injected. I'm not sure what size your fuel lines are but you may want to get bigger ones. I'm running Earl's hardlines under the car and the braided stuff in the trunk and engine bay. Your going to need a new fuel pump. If you want to keep your heater core, your going to need some custom shaped lines. Theres lots of little things. If i think of more i'll post. Or just ask.

Delta Spring & Chassis want $300 to cut shorten and balance the driveshaft. Is that reasonable? Anybody else with sr20s have measurements as to what they shortened it by? I know where all going to be a little different depending on the mounts. I just want a general idea. I mounted the motor as far back as i could. Any info would be helpful even if it just eases my mind.

How did everyone hook up there heater core hoses. The hoses are different sizes coming off the engine than those on the heater core. The stock holes are also very close to the engine but to sharp of an angle. I'd love to see your pics. Also how much did everyone take off the length of their driveshaft. I measure yesterday and it looks like i need to take about 3.25 inches off. Does that sound about right. I'm just a little nervous about having it cut.

Would someone please post some pics of fuel lines near the rear end of the car. I can't remember how the stock fuel lines ran. Any pics that show how to get the fuel lines from the tank to the tunnel would be helpful. Thanks.

I have a set of mechanical oil pressure and water temp gauges from autometer. Will these work in the stock sensor locations on an sr20det or should I switch to electrical gauges. I've heard the mechanical ones are more accurate. Any pics would be helpful, thanks.

My engine is in, most of the wiring is done. How do I hook up an autometer mechanical speedometer to this motor. I think i'm going with the 3.90 rear end, and will end up with 16 inch rims at some point. Somebody mentioned to me that the white speedocable connector will work, is this true?

So we've finally started installing a few things. I purchased a cradle from Whitehead because it's closer to me than Vildini. It looks basically the same. The motor is in and all i can say was it was a Bitch to get in. The oil pan was catching on the cross member and the top of the motor kept bumping the hood latch. Keeping in mind this is my first ever motor swap. Here are the pics, sorry for the quality I took them with my cell phone. I'd buy a digital camera but that would take money away from my car Thankfully my friend James is experienced in motor swaps. Vildini cradle vs whitehead performance
jessejames replied to jessejames's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
I picked up a motor cradle and a transmission mount from whitehead. It cost me $450 Cad. The motor cradle looks similar to the Vildini ones I've seen in pics. I've test fitted it in my car and its a tad small. This was a prototype that Greg at Whitehead made for me. If i have time i'll take it back and have him adjust it or I'll weld something on both sides to make it fit. I'll post pics this weekend. Greg's cradle uses the L24 motormounts NOT the sr20's. On a seperate note, i'm having issues test fitting the motor. The sr20 oil pan catches on the stock crossmember. Maybe the lean angle is wrong. I'll play with it more this weekend. Where has everyone else picked the motor up from. I took the hooks off the L24 and bolted one up to where the transmission meets the block, and the other one to where i could on the front. -
Watanabe Offset Decision
jessejames replied to S30TRBO's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm in the middle of an SR20 swap but will be need to upgrade my wheels in the spring. I would like to keep the stock fenders. I have not yet decided on what brake or suspension setup to go with. I have fallen in love with the Watanabe RS 2 piece here http://www.aerodyne.net/rs_watanabe/8SpokeA2_spec.htm Could I run the 17x7s without rolling the fenders and what offset should i be going with? Thanks for you help. -
I was looking at the different Apexi Headgaskets. I've heard good things about them. I think I'm going to go with the 1.1mm but should i go with a 88mm bore or 87mm bore? Its a stock s14 sr20det. Whats the advantage or disadvantage? And do i need to get the head decked if I'm just replacing the headgasket? I figured while the motor is out might as well get it done. Does anyone know of a good place to buy water pumps and oil pumps for sr20? Thanks

highway cruising speed around here is about 75-80mph. I don't want to lose too much acceleration but at the same time I'd like to maintain some fuel economy. Thats why i was thinking of the 3.9 ratio, plus the 3.9s are easier to find.
-
On the 4.11 diff, what are your rev's at when your doing say 90mph. I'm just guessing, but i would think the rev's would be pretty high in 5th gear. I was thinking of going with the 3.9 Please correct me if i'm wrong.

There was one for sale on ebay for $200 which is not bad. I would like a nice exhaust without the heat. I was looking at the Apexi Noir. I'm not sure how quiet it is but It looks the part.
-
Which diff ratio are you going to go with? I've been looking around and they all look about the same price.
-
I'm not sure if it's legal here, but I think they will ship you one if your wiling to pay for the shipping. My concern is too much back pressure with the valve closed. I know that the muffler reroutes the exhaust fumes but it looks to be very restrictive. What do you think?
-
Hi Just wondering if anyone has heard any good or bad things about the Xforce Varex muffler. It has a butterfly valve in the can that makes the car quiet or loud. Heres a link to a video on youtube. Do you think the back pressure would be harmful to an engine? I'm in the middle of an SR20 swap in my 73z and I need a quiet exhaust. What do you guys think?

If I use the greddy intake manifold do I have to change the fuel rail? What fuel rail are you using? The HKS fuel rail only seems to fit the s13. I've seen a SARD version too, but I dont know much about it. Any suggestions?

Vildini cradle vs whitehead performance
jessejames replied to jessejames's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
i called and he said around 350ish but he would get back to me. I'm going to call again this week. -
I searched around and found that too much power runs through the system. I dont know anything about electronics. I'm just wondering is my problem different from everyone elses. The signals were working just fine. It rained hard yesterday. After that they stopped working. The hazards work fine. By the way i have a 1973 240z. thanks

I think its really just personal preference. But I'm buying up parts for an sr20 swap right now. In Japan's JGTC many of the MKIV Supras are running 3sgte's instead of the 2j's. The reason is they can get the same power for less weight and better handling. Just something to think about. Plus a smaller engine's probably better on gas. Technology is the only replacement for displacement. The 3sgte is a Toyota 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. Check out this link

Hi there, what are your experiences with the vilidini and whitehead sr20 cradles? I spoke with Greg at whitehead he mentioned that with his cradle you have to adjust the hoodlatch other wise the valve cover will get scratched up by the hood latch. Is that true of the vildini cradle too? I'm planning on buying within the week. Any info would be helpful.

intercooler pipe routing (mythbusters style)
jessejames replied to wigenOut-S30's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Hey Austin what size intercooler and Rad are you running? -
Hi all, I've been searching around looking for answers to my questions. It would be nice if all the information was in one place instead having to do 50 searches. Anyways here goes. I have a 73 240z. I'm looking at installing an SR20 - not sure which model. I Plan on buying a clip from a silvia to help with parts. From what i understand I will need custom made motor mounts and mounts for the transmission. Does anyone sell mounts for this conversion? Next can I use my stock rear end? I understand the my driveshaft has to be shortened. How much shorter does it have to go? How much power can it take? If I want to keep the motor stock can i use the wiring harness and the ECU from the silvia? or will I have to go with a standalone. I was planning on just running a custom 3inch down pipe and exhaust. Thanks to all who have any positive input.
