  1. OK... Dynamat is rediculously expensive.. and i've seen a couple other brands out there... what have you othe Z guys used? my interior is striped right now so i figured... might as well Ed 78 280z 2+2

  3. While i would love to have more parts from Bosch on my car... the local autozone has a pump for our car for 120 i think w/ a lifetime warranty on them... they hate me i got 5 pumps from them. You can never have 2 many fuel pumps right?
  4. tried the gas cap... i could tell no difference... try the head temp sensor this weekend.

My car had and has the exact same damn problem i have a 78 280 w/ bolt ons and ported head. replaced every electronic sensor under the hood and would fix it for a week then would come back. replaced the tank flushed my lines, replaced all the vacumn and fuel rubber lines. still does what yours does. except if i put mine to the floor at idle it won't go past 4 then dies till 1,5 then up to 4 again. i'm gonna try the gas cap idea tomorrow.
  6. ok so i'm begining to wonder if the power is worth it. When i put the petal to the floor in my car it' will rev to about 4-4,5k then the rpm will just go down and down and down all the while the pedal is still on the floor untill it hits about 1,5 then rev up to 4 again... what's the deal? all checks come through ok... i have new afm, new head temp sensor, new water temp sensor, new dist. cap and rotor, new wires plugs, etc.
  7. lockjaw has a good start.. also take off all the smog and the deceleration vacum controlled device. also... a company in california sells oversized valves for our already big vavled Heads. The company is called SI Valves. only 20 bucks extra for polished stainless... nice huh?
  8. Well i'm surprised to see the number of hits this question recieved. Yes i have done many things to my car. Not much is stock anymore.. but the ecu is. I have done alot of things people have told me would not work, and would degrade my performance. But who ever likes to be told you can't do it? Yes i run a large cam (it's the big power maker) it's a nissan racing cam from japan. injectors are rebuilt for more flow, fuel pressure is controlled by a Holley performance pump and 2 pressure regulators. timing has been upgraded as well. exhaust is headers and free flow muffler. Intake is mostly custom. bigger AFM Bigger throttle body, CAI, porting has been done.. many things. I was never bragn' about my power... truthfully i'm planing on getn' ride of it. there is a balance between reliability and performance.. i definatly messed up the balance. Just my opinion. It's noisy, usually doesn't smell to great. it's a bitch in the rain. Not to mention it pretty much doesn't idle. Have fun guys... it's all personal opinion. ED
  9. OK... so maybe somebody can explain to me how when ever someobody on this site wants a HP engine you tell then to either... Get carbs.. or Get a turbo... Y can't they upgrade the EFI ? or is it because nobody knows how to do this? Kinda ticks me off seeing as i'm makn' around 230 at the rear w/ a 78 FI inline 6 w/ the stock ECU still
  10. OK... so seeing as i can' find a reliable machine shop w/ good prices. I have decided to kick out the Honda/Acura coilover idea... springs are too short to be safe.. and to get longer springs w/ hats would be something like 332 all round.. so it's kinda pointless. I've elected to go w/ the 1" drop springs from MSA. oh well ED

  12. The whole idea on going to 17's was for show purposes.. and a much much better tire.. plus it's cheaper than going 16's believe it or not! Ed
  13. ok.. so judging by the tire sizes.. nobody but me is planning on running 7's in the rear. i was getn' a package deal of 17x7's but i thought the widest tire you cold put on a 7" was a 225.. ami wrong? Ed
  14. Ok... so i thought i had good headers.. until i took my car to a Z guy.. he was sayn' mine where pretty whimpy... What companys have you guys bought from.. i know there are lots out there that sell for the 78 280z. What do you prefer.. 6-1 or 6-2-1? which has more torque anybody know? thanx ED
  15. Do all you Z guys w/ 17's run like.. 205/45 up front and something like 225/40 in the rear?
  16. I'm planning my suspension upgrade and my 17's really soon.. i want to see all the pics i can find of Z-cars w/ 17's on them w/ coilovers thanx guys! ED
  17. I've looked at the other two companies.. they don't have any other colors but OEM.. i'm looking for something extreme say.. blue i'll check JC Whitney... maybe the solution is buy some white carpet and dye it?
  18. OK.. so i didn't really know where to put this.. so i put it here.. I'm tryn' to find carpet for my car... does anybody know of any companys that sell the carpet.. but in different colors..? black is rather Hot.. thanx ED

  20. go to www.tirerack.com then choose your size.. and then check out the sizing specs on the tires.. shows outside di.. over dia.. lots of niffty facts.. ED
  21. aight.. just thought i'd let you guys in on what i've done. I used a die grinder w/ some grinding stones initially.. works ok.. but the dremel w/ the grinding stone package.. that little tool saved me hours of filling. I'm completly done w/ porting. Now i'm polishing.. i'm not worried about this mixture philosophy.. i'm not gonna be able to get things as smooth as glass and if i could.. there is still a valve guide smack in the way of the air flow.. so i'm not worried.. plush there is enough casting in the manifold to stire the air up.

OK... well the plan was to get a P-90A head.. the one w/ the hydraulic lifters but time and money are issues... right now i just wanna get it running.. then install my coilovers and rims.. and redo my interior. Later i plan to get a turbo head such as i mentioned.. but i already have a performance cam, and already had the valves... so until i rebuild w/ some flat tops.. this will do just fine. (the runners are evil) thanx for the tips though... Ed
  23. Too late for the too smooth part thanx for the tip thought... i'm not too woried seeing as i just wanna get better mileage intead of HP... tired of breakn' things racing
  24. sweet... yeah i'm not gonna use the integra struts.. but i was wondering if you knew the outside diameter of a 240 strut of mabye one of the MR2 struts running around? the springs are heavy duty.. the sticker on them says "450P" which i'm assuming is 450 lbs.. which is what it felt like in my friends car
