  1. So I took the turbo off last night, and the (according to the guy I bought it from) "rebuilt 0 miles turbo" looked like this: Something's wrong with this picture...and the compressor wheel barely moved at all; I had to practically muscle it to move it, but that might be because it needs to be oiled. Also, my engine was leaking pretty bad for a (also according to the seller) "rebuilt with 6,000 miles engine": So I guess I'll have to replace some gaskets at least. Lastly, why didn't Nissan cover over this hole with the new fuel injected blocks? Now I gotta spend like $30 to get a block-off plate since I don't need power steering.
  2. Selling it to you? lol PM me Does anyone know what the deal is with the power steering pump bracket doubling as a block-off for a hole in the engine? Can I just dremel off the rest of the bracket that I don't need? Or better yet, is there any place I can get a plate already made?
  3. And here's my engine, already started tearing off the unnecessary stuff: And a couple other parts I bought: Fairlady mirrors, Datsun fender emblems (thinking of getting the Fairlady emblems instead), OEM battery hold-down, and MSA flares.... One of them was sacrificed to a botched project on an MR2, so anyone wanna sell me one fender flare? These won't be going on for a while because I need to focus on the engine swap and I also don't have wheels/tires wide enough to fit the flares, nor need for any until the engine swap is done. I paid $5,500. Unfortunately had to sell my super-rare '94 MR2 Turbo to afford it... (*wipes tears from eyes). I got it in Burlington, VT. It was restored in 2000ish if I recall; originally silver and I may choose to go back to that color eventually but for now, British Racing Green suits it quite well. It currently has an L26 with triple Weber 40mm carbs, but the carbs needed to be rebuilt and rather than spending silly amounts of money doing that, I decided to go turbo. I am sure gonna miss the sound of those Webers, though. They sound truly out of this world!!!
  4. Oh boy, something to waste more time on the internet with! Hey guys, my name's Corey. I've wanted a Z car for about 3 years now, but I think the obsession started many years ago when I first saw a 300ZX Shiro model as a small child... but that's not the point. The point is, I have searched long and hard and finally found myself a nice 1973 240Z, rust free and pristine enough for me. Since I never could decide which I'd rather have, a 240Z or 280ZX turbo, I decided to make the best of both worlds, with the now somewhat obligatory L28ET swap. Thus begins my swap thread and project blogging and whatever. I'll post progress as often as I have batteries for my camera. Since I'm pretty much a n00b when it comes to Z cars, I'm also going to use this thread to ask a lot of questions, so I hope that all you L28ET owners can help me out! Here's a list of parts I need for the swap: L28ET (no, really?)...got one for $900 shipped w/ ecu, harness, accessories Z32 5 speed transmission bellhousing adapter custom driveshaft (carbon fiber if budget permits...not likely though) Fidanza aluminum flywheel, ARP flywheel bolts Clutch Masters Stage 4 clutch eBay short throw shifter Arizona Z Car aluminum radiator Arizona Z Car cast aluminum oil pan NPR or eBay intercooler and piping blow-off valve (still undecided on which type) '75-76 EFI fuel tank or modded 240Z tank, larger lines, Walbro fuel pump GReddy Profec B boost controller non-EGR intake manifold custom downpipe and 3" stainless steel exhaust engine gaskets/seals: valve cover, oil pan, front/rear main seal, possibly HG Let me know if I'm missing anything painfully obvious... Anyhow, here's pics of the car: You get a cookie if you can guess what that shell is in the background!
  5. Oh, I forgot to mention, I have an L26 flywheel, so I don't know if that's even compatible with the L28ET that I'll be swapping in....therefore lightening my stock flywheel may not be an option unless I get an L28ET flywheel and lighten it which is probably cheapest of all oh no run-on sentence make it stop! I think I'm gonna go for the Fidanza.
  6. Sorry guys, I forgot where to find the official "L28ET into an S30" swap guide online. I've been searching for a while now and I can't find it. I need to read up on the wiring and fuel tank/lines bit mostly. Help plz? Thanks!
  7. Ok, there's also that, and I found the very expensive Kameari flywheels
  8. I'm trying to decide which lightweight flywheel to choose for my L28ET. I did some searching, and came up with the following brands: SPEC, Clutch Masters, RPS, and Fidanza. Does anyone have any of these flywheels installed who can give me some feedback on their products? I have a Fidanza flywheel in my MR2 and I really like it but it's not the same engine or layout. Right now I am leaning towards them strictly based on price.
  9. I guess it would be good for a track-only car, since you'd never pass smog, and it's kinda illegal (at least in my state) to put an engine that's older than it's chassis in, but why not just turbo a KA? The heads flow so much better and the displacement wouldn't make that much difference
  10. Has this swap actually been done before, and if so.....why?
  11. Are there stampings or markings on the diff/gears that allow you to identify which differential is in your car? I bought a 240Z and the previous owner claimed to have installed an LSD, but did not know which type it was.
  12. Really just looking for the gear ratios, or at least the transmission codes so I can look them up.
  13. I'm very interested in one of these; I'd much rather pay you $350 then $700+ to someone else! I'll need one by mid-april
  14. Ahhh... good point. Looks like I'll just have to go aftermarket later on...
  15. Hey guys, I'm trying to do an L28ET (w/ P90A head) swap into my '73 240Z. I'm on a tight budget because I'm saving up for a Z32 tranny and all the necessary swap parts. I read here (http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/cam/index.htm) that the L26 cam is the largest stock L-series camshaft. Well it just so happens that my Z has an L26 in it currently; hurray! I have to double check the head code to confirm, but I was thinking of putting that camshaft into my L28ET before installing it into the car. I assume this isn't a drop-in affair. What would I have to do to make this work? Does timing come into play?
  16. Hey all, I am interested in swapping a manual Z32 transmission into my S30. I've tried searching for the gear ratios for the transmissions but haven't had much luck. I guess I'm trying to find the one with the tallest gears since I'm aiming for top speed (obviously the differential/final drive ratio will come into play here; I think I have an R200 in my car but I haven't cracked the pumpkin open to check. All I know is that the previous owner installed an LSD). Is there a list somewhere that shows the ratios of the different transmissions, between n/a and turbo, and if there were any differences between the years?
  17. I'm gonna quote Dave Coleman who writes for Sport Compact Car: "Here's your answer in only three words: buy a Miata. You, my friend, need to face some hard facts. First, you can't drive. You have no business in a Z until you've learned some skills in something balanced, rear-drive and underpowered." I'm making my lil' bro buy a Miata as his first car. They're cheap, good on gas, parts are cheap, and so many people own them that there's tons of help and resources available. There's even a race series devoted strictly to Miatas. It is the ultimate entry level sports car IMO. I only wish it could've been my first car. The only other car I can recommend is a first generation Toyota MR2, which is similar to a Miata, but less popular and harder to work on. Oh, and my only other advice is don't spend money on mods! Save cash for repairs because you'll need to make them, and if you want to be good, go to racing school. $4,000 spent on racing school will make you faster than if you drop $4,000 into your car.
  18. Shoulda added that sound clips would be good too; wigenOut-s30, do you have a sound clip for yours? I'm pretty interested in trying a Magnaflow. I had dual Magnaflows on my 3.8L Lumina and they sounded great. Also, what spoiler do you have?
  19. Yeah I was gonna say....that wouldn't fly if I try to Auto-X this thing...
  20. FD. Price, parts availability, overall sexiness, and you can throw a V8 in it (if you must). But you should just stick with the 13BRE, enhance the cooling system so it won't blow up, and do some minor mods so it's faster. Done, and done. I love Porsches, but stuff costs probably 50% more for the Porsche than it would for the Mazda.
  21. Just needs a front bumper and grille, and some paint. Have you seen the Sport Compact Car '08 WRX? They did BASF flat black on it and it looked great. Of course you have to take it to a spray booth to have it come out like they did.
  22. Since we're asking semi-n00b questions, do you need to make any modifications to attach the Z31 turbo to the L28ET? Do you need to tune it afterward (I would imagine it would be beneficial but is it necessary)?
