  1. Hi all,

tried out my new 215/60R14 g-force drag radials

today at test&tune knocked about 4 tenths off my time 2wks ago. (2wks ago.average 13.0 w/best 12.92 street tires)....today average 12.73 w/best 12.692)all runs today were still the same as last time at 105mph...best 60` today was 1.799 with most in 1.8 range.best 60`s were achevied with a little burn out and dry hop and little to no stall walking out.....today also very felt very humid (temp info wasn`t on time slip this week)and everyone was complaining about going slower becaulse of it.so i might have squeezed a better 12.6 or even a 12.5 out of it.

    just to recap what i have....73 240z 400sbc stock w/flattops,LT1 cam and 830 holley on a castiron intake....turbo350 trans...r200 w/3.54.

im hoping in cooler weather to crack 11`s with just a victor jr. intake and some tuning....mark

  2. like the new 575m ferrari maranello.

instead the 350z looks like every other new car on the road same no style.wasn`t the 240 styled like the ferrari?..wasn`t it as sexy as the ferrari?...and didn`t you want to drive one when you saw it?.....ad`s keep comparing the 350z to the 240z....and it`s no 240z....one thing i do think the 350z would be good for is parts for my 240z (it has a LSD)......look at the new M/T issue and compare the 350z to the fararri and you see the mistake nissan made.......mark

  3. your right ported vacuum( above the throttle plates....and on the side of the metering block on holleys)should have little or no vacuum at idle and become stronger with acceleration.sounds like you have a bad metering block gasket...

a tip:at least with the older gaskets.rub liquid soap on them and they become reuseable and seal better.....the holley new blue gaskets i don`t think this tip applies, haven`t worked with one so i really can`t say.....mark

  4. first let me say i agree 100% on saftey 2thumbs.gif

but as far as the muscle car guys. i think it`s a comfort issue and not really a saving weight one. with the "muscle car" we grew up with and have driven.these cars have been around us for a long time.we know how they will act in any given situation (at least we think we do)we feel safe with the body surronding us becausle it`s been proven to us time and time again through out the years.everyone has had an acceident in a 60-70`s car, probabley moms car when you were a teenager.a brake or suspention upgrade other than factory seems like a waste of money or it`s for someone that wants bragging rights.becaulse these cars came with v8 high horse motors.

    now the comparison.

did you grow up with z cars?....i didn`t im 32 and just started driving them last yr.do you honestly know what that car will do in a accident?how it will behave to avoid one?...i don`t...let`s face it we drive around in small, compact, very light, very fast even with a stock 2.4 let alone 300+hp beercans.now do you honestly and completly feel safe in one?(remember it`s compact in there)...i don`t...but do you like to drive it?....hell yes i do!!!...that`s why we spend a good amount of money on safety so we can have the comfort level were accustom to.

now keep in mind this is just my take on it.since ive been bitten by the z bug i haven`t driven my nova in almost a yr......mark

  5. i bought the cheepest one from summit branco??? something like that it was around 50-60 bucks.i like it does it`s job and it rebuildable....i think they are all the same b&m,hurst,TCI just seemed to overpriced to me.....i hooked it up to my horn with a 2way switch that way when i line lock i use the horn button on the steering wheel.

  6. i don`t think ECU`s work that way anymore.i need a scan tool to clear my 94 s-10...from what i understand OBDII tells everything from emissions to your everyday driving.im sure they made it as tamper proof as possable im not saying it can`t be done just won`t be easy...one things for sure it would take a computer wiz to figure it out....put away your wrench and bring out your laptop....the times they are a changing.....mark

  7. hey guys,

the main thing about performance tuning is don`t get too technical and over think things.the best tool you`ll ever own is the seat of your pants!...ALL cars have a different personality and just becausle it sayz it in a book dosen`t mean it`s right.....and don`t always trust your insterments either just use them as referance...i once tried getting technical and relied on a timming light instead of my senses turns out the brandname light was way wrong in the area i wanted it to work!....never again!...my uncle has a 11 sec motor running 13`s...overthinks everything and just won`t listen!!! he`s put 4 cams in and swears their ALL ground wrong #1 open in #6 position (180 deg. out)i`ll tell you what`s out is he`s dial in`s!...relies on a manual for a STOCK motor...performance are not stock settings!

remember use your senses you`ll learn a lot more.

oh and about the cams....with computers and quality control the way they are now dot to dot (sbc)are 99.0% what the cam card sayz anyway...my uncle refuses to put it dot to dot!!!....mark

not sure what a carabiner is? but no i haven`t had a chance to compare the two....im working on getting it tagged and insured right now...then the fun will begin rockon.gif
  9. i think i went overkill on the SWL (safe weight load)but better safe than sorry!!!!

i got 2 eye bolts SWL1200lbs....one clasp SWL 880lbs (looks like something a rockclimmer would use)forget the name at the moment....and one locking hook SWL 440lbs.

took the threaded bolt (3/8)out and removed the latch hook....threaded in a eyebolt and mounted everything back on the hood....mounted the other eyebolt next to the dist. and reinforced it in back under the cowl...and put on the hooks...works great puts the hood open about 2" and when your not around the hood closes with a simple push....i raced on sat.and the track looked but said nothing ran 105mph all day not one problem.....mark

  10. Hi All,

I would like to relocate my battery to one side of my sparetire well with a metal divider and mount my fuel pump on the other side and cover everything with a metal lid....does any one find a problem with this?...anyone know NHRA specs for this?...thanks Mark

  11. i used the bezles like drax240z did except the temp i mounted it in the datsun gauge.i used auto-gage gauges and they match my volt/gas gauge perfectly a few people commented on how factory they look.i`ll be doing the tach soon can`t decide on a dash mount or just a monster tach...$50 difference....my sun tach adapted to the 240 dial isn`t correct after 4 grand...and my 260z junk yard tach dosen`t work sour.gif in case you haven`t guessed i like things that look factory but aren`t shifty.gif ...mark

  12. Hi Scottie,it was a test and tune day so i tried everyway of getting out of the hole.so my 60's aren`t too bad...best was 1.968 but most were between 2.00-2.06 as long as i didn`t stall it up i got those numbers.the first run i went balls to the wall and got a 2.407 and could not keep the tire from spinning! letting off, short shifting, feathering it....i called it quits shortly after half track coasted the rest of the way to a 16.6 @75.14 mph i was also not used to the car yet...and belive it or not the temp. never went over 170 all day!!! it never ran that cool in my nova and im using the same 3 row radiator! I going to have fun in this car!!!!! tongue.gif ....mark

  13. Hi Mike,the size are 245-60r14`s street tires and the rear is i belive a 3:54 it`s a r200 out of a 280z......

I have a victor jr im going to put on after i get it inspected that should bump the MPH up to 107-108 and with some tuning get it down to 12.5...The plan was to buy a set of dart2 heads and a sweet soild cam and run early 11`s BUT while it didn`t break me, it did nickle and dime me to death!!!! So next year!! ....Mark

  14. I ran a best of 12.93@105mph in the 1/4. 1st time out last night with a stock 400 w/castiron intake and 830 carb.GOTTA LOVE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIOS!!!!! rockon.gif the rest were 13.20-13.10 all at 105mph... Can`t get out of the hole!! sour.gif

With that said...Has anyone made a access panle to get at the transmissions fittings and doo-dads? My kickdown cable is leaking and the last thing i want to do is pull the trans for a o-ring!!!...I don`t think the panle will caluse any weakening in the body, it has frame connectors and feels solid. After working on it for the last 2 mos. I don`t even feel like changing the oil much less pulling the trans.....Do i sound lazy? cry2.gif
