  1. Thanks "M". Might very well be able to use those, but I'm still trying to figger which style I'd need, though. Aren't there 2 different styles of rotors for different brackets? Wanna see a pick to tell me if I got the right ones? Doug.
  2. Thanks Tim. It's not identical. The mounting surface on mine is not circular. It's irregular shaped (boltholes look the same) and the NA 280ZX caliper that fit the bracket was the later style. It looked just like the 83 turbo one. It didn't look like the cal on your site. I did see a diesel Max in the same jyard with that style of caliper, with that extra plate/hanger looking thing. The mounting face on mine has eight sides: 4 long and 4 short ones. It is mostly a trapazoid; the front side is the shortest, the back (caliper side) is the tallest and they are parallel. The top and bottom are equal length (but not parallel) like they are pinching the front down shorter. Each side is connected with a small corner like the R200 diff. The offset looks like you cut 2 ears off of the flush surface of the mounting face and welded them back on the side so that the overhead view is a dogleg. Boy a pic would be alot easier. Doug
  3. I picked some up months ago and want to make sure they are correct for a disc swap. The 82 caliper I tried them on in the yard bolted up, but I'm not sure about the offset. I can't post a pic here, but I can send an email pic, tomorrow if anyone can help. Thanks, Doug.
  4. That's kinda disappointing that you can't use a spacer with the dp. Maybe by clocking the turbo like you said, we can get a little relief in the compressor area. I won't be using mine for a long while though.
  5. I really like the low cowl look. That's exactly what I imagined a good cowl should look like. Very similar to the 69 Z28 type. Didn't know they were available like that for the Z.
  6. I had a stock 89 ZXT LSD and found that a lug was present on the bottom of the diff. I had to grind it off to get it to settle into the mount. Easy with the GTO slander . I just bought a 68 conv and a 69 hardtop...both have posi.

    good muff recomendation

Stream O' conscience here...Rick the car is a really, really choice! I used to live on San Juan Dr. on Merritt Is. way back in day of the Superbird and spacerace. Where on the web can I see that tilt front end for sale? Thanks. I picked up a Dynomax Ultraflow for more than a 100 a couple of years ago...straight thru...all stainless in & out. I like it much better than a Flowmaster. Doug.
  8. I've been looking into junkyards lately to get some prices on a turbo for a hybrid project. What should I expect on the low side and also on the high side? Doug.
  9. I have one in Tenn for 150. Doug.
  10. Not sure if this is how you post a site, but I did a search on Metacrawler in quotes: "0 280 150 710" to see if I could find anything on an injector number I saw at a yard today. Anyway, it pulled up a site (.pdf file) on many injectors with impedence, hp figures and some car maker apps, etc,. It doesn't list if they are top or side feed, but still some good info. If the link below doesn't work, use Metacrawler and enter an injector number in quotes and select Injector.pdf. Right click and zoom in to view. Check out those 2.2 Chrysler injectors with a 0.7 impedence supporting 147 hp per injector at 735cc. Doug. http://www.telusplanet.net/~chichm/tech/injectors.pdf
  11. If the rail is a 1/2 inch ID, I'd like to get one, too. Any word on a bracket cost? Doug.
  12. I pulled a turbo from an 86 turbo recently because I want to build a hybrid with a water cooled center and 2 things are odd. The first is the wastegate has a turnbuckle on it and I swear it is either stock or a professional upgrade replacement part. It's quite small and very prof looking. Not a homebrew. Anyone ever noticed this? The second is an incedental thing on the exhaust side. The downpipe is integral with the rear flange. In other words there is no exhaust flange to remove the downpipe from. If you removed the dp you would also remove part of the wastegate. Doug.
  13. I got the one that is offset as if the ear section has been cut off and welded to the remaining 4 bolt piece. Like the brackets for sale by SCCA and Ross, I think. Not sure which rotor will work with them, but the 5/82 pattern was the same. The diesel bracket may be correct, but it took too much to get these. I went there to get the diesel bracket but the car was hammered into the mud after I got the motor last month. They shoved back in it's slot with no tires on it. I paid to have these removed, and that yard owner is one tough nut to deal with.
  14. Yeah, I saw your experience in the old posts. I pulled a caliper from a 5/82 built ZX while the yard guy was going back for another breaker bar. He broke one, and then broke a hardened adapter. Anyway, the caliper bolted up. I had quite an experience in the "junk nazi" yard today. Read the post in buy/sell/trade section about the $800 starion eBay auction for an explanation. The llamas in the junkyard are a nice addition. Doug(opie).
  15. I found a late 78 built zx today with a 200 Kilometer/hr speedo and has the small print up to about 120 mph in the background. Posted this on Zcar if anyone would be interested in it and yo2001 posted saying he needed one reading 140 at least. SOOOoooOO...I was wondering, could I have this recalibrated to read the K/h as if it was M/h? You know 120 K/h seen on the dial would actually be 120 M/h (on a closed course, of course of course ). Thanks, Doug(opie)
  16. Need to know if the 2+2 CV shafts are the same as the Turbo CVs. Can we use as we would the turbo car? Thanks Doug(opie).
  17. I went to a yard where I knew there were several 81 model Max with rear brakes. I found 4 or 5 candidates and after checking all, only 1 had the removable rear brackets and it was a pain to get em off. Just to share my experience, I got them from an 8/81 built car. The 9/81 had less of an offset and was welded on. The 5/81 diesel (i bought it)car had a totally different bracket I couldn't even see for the caliper hanger/bracket that was on it. I assume it had a flat one. All other cars were welded on also.
  18. Anyone having trouble finding these 240SX rear calipers in your area? What price are you finding them if not? I have not had trouble finding any of the rear calipers myself for typically $50. Or am I just assuming that most of you think this is the better setup? Doug(opie).
  19. I just got an 82 turbo auto (my 1st auto) and under any kinda acceleration, the ac switches to the floor vents until a steady rpm is attained, then it comes back out of the normal vents. I can't orate on the heat issue though. I'm not sure if it is cutting the ac off under accel or just a vacuum anomaly in my car. It stays cool, but could just be residual in the system.
  20. I think the "brown tops" are 37lb units. I have recently seen 3 of the Merkurs at 2 yards sell their inj for about 10 each (customer pulled usually). Take a 10mm socket and a swivel extension assembly to remove the fuel rail. A big screwdriver will pry everything off for removal of the injs. I haven't seen an SVO in a yard, ever. Wonder if the Turbo bird has a similar inj. BTW, I haven't removed any XR4Ti inj, but have seen it done today.
  21. Hey guys, can you tell me how much area does the Zedfindings pan cover? I've got a rusty 71 that needs the same treatment shown in Havok's site. It's rusty 2 inches up the firewall and all the way to the rear upturn behind the seat. Please let me know. Thanks, Doug(opie).
  22. Thank you sir! Just saw the post. Good to see some old faces(?). Just wish I hadn't sold all that stuff.
  23. I'm in need of hoses for the front of the 71. I want to know if there is any sense in getting stainless braided hoses if I am going to do a future upgrade of brakes? Can I reuse the hoses with the 4runner/vented or Outlaw upgrades? At this time I'm replacing the calipers with stock components. Doug(opie)
  24. Good info. Thanks for the knowledge. D.
