Miller econotig torch compatibilty
roye@hrewheels.com replied to jerryb's topic in Fabrication / Welding
If you think that is bad, walk onto a ship yard. 8+ hours of FCAW each day makes hours of TIG work look like a walk in the park. -
Miller econotig torch compatibilty
roye@hrewheels.com replied to jerryb's topic in Fabrication / Welding
I put together some prototype aluminium rim parts for HRE a few years ago, it was an hour and one half of welding. The torch actually got hot enough for the rubber grip to melt in to my glove, there was some lasting damage to the torch and I had to replace it. Of course this probably falls into the "miss-used" category and would not happen in most hobbyst level projects. -

I have to agree with grumpyvette 100%. I have a Miller syncrowave 200 tig, after about 5 minuts of welding the torch can burn your hand, after about 20 minuts of welding steel (putting my Frontier back together) you can hardly hold the torch with a heavy glove. I love my machine but I wish I would have spent some money to get the water cooled product. Next time I get into a project that requires a good deal of fab I will most likely by an add on system for it. RE -
Thats very nice, it sure beats the hell out of my flat black rattle can engine bay! RE

Good deal, Chuck is going to go somewhere else after a few years in the field to get his Masters. RE

Adding a TGIC clear to the gloss black helps a lot with scratching. Check out http://www.tiger-coatings.us/ for just about every color and texture powder available. RE

Sweet, My brother Chuck told me about your project like 4 years ago when you sent the wheels back to us to rebuild. It looks great, tons of attention to detail, I think that if you look arond this forum that attention to the little things is a trait most Z owners have. RE -
It's not actually the lip, the wheels have a more pronounced bead hump and they are also knurled around the tire seat. So in short, yes. Our bead humps are machined to a similar spec and rather than knurled tire seats we use an abrasive non-slip coating around the tire area. This wheel style now has TUV aproval and our facility is TUV verified so it is now basicly a world wide accepted wheel, it's sort of like having a "DOT" stamp times 10. RE

Thanks Calgary280ZT, I responded to your PM, BTW I'm not here to sell wheels, I work in the engineering/production department, I guess using my e-mail adress as my screen name was a little miss leading. I joined Hybrid after watching the forums for a few years, in my imediate familly we have had 11 Z's of different years, 4 240SXs, 2 maximas, 2 frontiers, an altima and a partridge in a pear tree. I also worked for a machine shop in the area where we built and dyno'd L-series motors for classic datsun, I actually started working there after bringing the E-31 that I had ported to Machine Tech to have the seats cut. Anyhow we had our open house today with a decent turn out.

By the way, if you live in SoCal we are having an open house next Saturday (8-9-08) There will be tours and a car show from 10am untill 2pm. At our last event we had almost 150 exotic cars show up and the GTR is supposed to be there with our wheels installed. 2611 Commerce way suite D, Vista, California, 92081. Stop by if you have time. Is that gap needed for the articulation of the hood? RE -
are these wheels real?
roye@hrewheels.com replied to jessejames's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm sure our wheel was not his direct design inspiration, mesh wheels have been a motorsports staple for ever, but i do like the way the look in that rendering. We will cut P40's for almost anything, as long as the offset fits the forging and the vehicle does not weigh more than we have load rated the wheels for. I have not cut any Monoblok wheels for Z's but if everything goes well for my S30 it might be wearing a set of our 3-piece wheels later this year. RE -

My dad has had had this body kit and a JTR SBC set up for a few years and has come to grips with the fact that he will never put the car together. He lives in the San Diego area so if there is any one who might be interested in seeing it. 1500 for GTO kit 250 for JTR kit + engine mounts RE

The Saga of my First Stroker -- and some restoration...
roye@hrewheels.com replied to josh817's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Dragonfly: Wouldnt it have been easier just to buy a larger venturi? I don't know if they are actually available for the 40mm carbs but iknow they are for the 50's. BTW: did that venturi mod give you a 30hp bump across the band or was it just peak? I ask because I saw similar results with 48mm venturis (13hp gain) on a L20 we ran on a Dyno years ago, problem was that the midrange fell drasticly, we ended up using 45mm venturies in the end because the car needed the extra midrange to get out of a corner.
