  1. What does the difference in ring widths do?
  2. I'm assuming that I'd be staying off the bottle until at least third gear, but I have no idea what the feel is like because I've never driven a car with nitrous. I think between an RPM switch, a clutch switch, a new fuel pump, and a WOT only system I should be decent as far as keeping my engine safe for a few runs down the strip, right? After I get some cash from the race I can go back and do everything the right way If it does die it isnt a huge deal. It is a cheap build car after all. I still have a lot of reading to do on the subject! With the l28 intake a fogger style system should be avoided because of the uneven distribution, right? Thanx for all of your help man! Its been amazing!
  3. I'm not sure if all of this is worth it... I currently have $235 into the car, counting the cost of purchase. Its part of a cheap build contest I'm in and we're running the 1/4 for a little cash ($250/person) and bragging rights. How likely am I to rip the car apart with a new fuel pump and a WOT system assuming that I'm watching my tach closely? I'm looking for the cheapest possible horsepower I can get my hands on How much do you have into your system?
  4. I have dished pistons, and a higher compression than the l28et (7.3 vs 8.4) If any ZX drivers havent checked out the sticky over there' date=' they should. Its great! Here it is What are the proper safety precautions assuming that I'm running a WOT only system? Do I need an aux fuel system or can I use the stock pump? I'm sure it would be a good idea to not run on 87 octane either
  5. 2800 is very high for that car. I would assume that it has 173,xxx miles on it though. My '79 doesn't have the hundred thousand mark on the odometer. Its just a 5 digit
  6. You realized that you bumped a thread thats almost 7 years old, right?
  7. How an I to determine which pistons I have? I have a '79 280ZX. I know which head I have, but I dont remember a piston break down. *surfs the boards looking for the answer*
  8. looks like he has a set of cheap rubber on steelies so he doesn't kill his daily tread
  9. Oh, please dont withhold any information about nitrous systems! I read and Holley(NOS) said that their systems are good for +50% of the stock horsepower rating on a fully stock engine assuming that the fuel pump is putting out exactly what it is rated for. I'm that an L28e would be fine for a 75 shot with a stock fuel pump, but with something after market a 100 shot would be feasible. The pistons *should* be the limiting factor in the engine. (within reason of course ) Anyone know what they are good for?
  10. So everything is working 100%? Good job man! I would personally clean up that space just because its a straight chunk of metal, but thats just me. Feel anything noticeable?
  11. I personally have no idea whats up with your car, but I would continue to work with the original guy to get the problem fixed. He should be paying for it even if another shop does the work...

    I could have had a V8!

How much do the pantera hatches run?
  13. 18lbs on stock internals?! I knew the l28 was tough, but I didnt think that it was that tough o.O
  14. How much for: passengers side arm rest dash (if its decent) drivers side quarterpannel spare tire cover trim around passengers side door latch trim near drivers side of the windshield quotes for local pick up (I can pull it all if you would like) and for them shipped to 99337 thanx
  15. What would 'the proper safety provisions' include? Do you think the N2O would distribute evenly enough if I put the fogger farther back as opposed to right before the manifold? Maybe do a dual fogger system? Will the stock rail suffice with a wet system?
  16. I did some research and Holly's site suggests that you dont go more than 50% of the stock HP rating if you are boosting a stock engine. I'm rated for 140 at the crank so I dont think that a 75 shout would be out of the question 75 horse power on demand for less than $350? I like it!
  17. Hey guys, I picked up a '79 280ZX that is mechanically sound for $235 locally This car is going to be the budget build for a race that my buddy and I will be having when the weather gets nice, so I was looking into getting a nitrous kit for my cheap power. I havent seen anyone running anything here on the forums on an L28. Its the early non turbo so it has the dished pistons and 8.3:1 compression ratio. What is safe to run with the stock internals? Should I be safe with a small 75 shot? It should bring me to right around 200 at the wheels.
  18. Which came in a n/a 280zx? the r180 or the r200 longnose? How would I find out what the gearing is?
