  1. I saw a white one of these sell on eBay before I was into the Z scene awhile back. I'd drive it if someone was to give it to me just for the uniqueness factor, but I wouldn't ever call it a Z!
  2. Hey, I'm parting out one of my 240's and someone on here is interested in the crossmember. I searched around and couldn't find any others for sale to gauge a price from. Anyone got an idea on something that would be fair for the both of us? I would be willing to clean it up and hit it in a fresh coat of black so call assume it's in great condition
  3. Have you looked into megasquirt for your EMS? Looks like you're going all out!
  4. My vote goes for a TT LS1, but it's closely followed by an RB26dett
  5. I wouldn't be running 15psi on water injection only. Cooling the air charge via intercooler lets you make the charge much denser before it hits your intake resulting in more 'umph' at the same pressures.
  6. Looking good so far Clean up that engine bay while you have the chance!
  7. I went down to Oxarc to look at welders yesterday. They have a lovely lincoln machine they will sell for $618. It's 110v and lists for $752. It looks perfect, but it's more than I want to spend right now. Time to hit up the local pawn shops
  8. LOL Holy dead thread revival batman! I bought a turbo set up and acquired 3 240zs
  9. Can't wait to see more! What kind of benefits would one see on this style set up vs a stock mani on a boosted motor? I'm building an l28et in the future and I still have the carb set ups off of 2 240's laying around How would one calibrate a set up like this with ms?
  10. Some in process pictures would be great! I plan on doing this myself this summer, but I might just stick to cutting a patch panel from my donor car.
  11. I have a '72 240z that I am completely stripping to the bare bones. It's my parts car and I'm pulling EVERYTHING (including all body panels) off and then cutting up the rest for scrap. I would just junk it to a yard, but I don't have a title. If you can get me pics of what you need I'd be more than willing to cut exactly what you need for patch panels if the price is right I'll PM you.
  12. This thread here is to serve both as entertainment for all of you as well as a place for me to keep track of what I have done to her. I would also like to make a hard copy to send back to the guy that I got the car from so he can see what his project finished as. I got this car from a post here in the cars for sale thread. One of wingnutthehut's friends Ed was moving from Oregon to Montana due to a new job. As much as he hated to say good bye to his baby, he came to the realization that he was going to have to part with his beloved '71 240z. Ed had had the car since '71. He traded his jeep to a guy 6 months after the z left the dealership when he was only 17 years old. He decided that he didn't want to sell the car, but he would rather give the whole project (parts cars and all) away to someone who would finish what he had started. He had started to tear into her an a lot of the work has already been done for me! Everything I need for the restoration is here between the original and 2 nearly complete parts cars. He rebuilt the engine, removed 95% of the interior, did some body work, checked the trans over, and much much more that I missed. It looks like my job will be putting everything back together and adding some paint. I am very thankful for what Ed has given me and I hope to be able to make him proud with the end result. My plans for this car are to restore it to a respectable factory condition. I'm not aiming for restoration competition quality, but I do want to be able to show it off at meets and local car shows and take pride in what I'm showing. If things go according to plan, I'll be able to use one of the parts cars to auto-x. Weld in a new rocker/chunk of quarter, replace the door, gut interior, slap my turbo onto my l28e from my ZX, megasquirt, and run. That's all for another thread though On to the pictures! All of them can be found at my album and I am only posting a few in this thread. I hope you enjoy and feel free to message me with any comments, criticisms, or ideas! The good! How she sits in my cluttered garage as of now: Pile o' interior: interior panels: Good seats: Original hatch glass: Clean hatch area: Driver's floor: Passenger's floor: Uncracked original dash: Bling!: Good center console: More goodies: Clutch bits: Carb stuff + alternator: Clean bumpers: Show me ya grill: Engine: Head: It's the original L24, but 30 over: The little bad there is: Very minor hole in the spare tire well: New roof welded on, has a sunroof. It's going to be filled. Welds to smooth: Rocker damage: But I have this to weld in when I do the body work : A little too much filler in the back for my tastes: Here is a link to my album with all of the pics. Again, I want to thank Ed and wingnutthehut for hooking me up with such an amazing opportunity!
  13. rofl Either you have one tiny tank for welding or that guy was trying to fill an enormous home brew set up! How much did you spend on your welder? I'm looking for something for in home use on my Zs, but I'm used to nice miller machines too! I'm trying to find that balance between disappointing myself and spending too much money.
  14. From the vid it sounds like valve tick to me, but I could be entirely wrong.
  15. Is it just me, or does the amp look slightly crooked? It might just be the angle that the picture is taken from though Regardless, great work!
  16. Awesome! I'll take a look, but I don't think it's there anymore. The door jambs, engine bay, and hatch area have all been repainted in "Ferrari yellow", but I think I'm going to go with the 240 metallic green from the 280z years Any opinions?
  17. Where is the color code located in the engine bay? I have a '71 that's in primer and I want to know what the original color was
  18. When it comes time to license my '71 I'm thinking that the plates will say "freezy" because the project was given to me for the cost of gas to come and get her
  19. I haven't welded on a rocker panel specifically, but I have welded on painted metal before. As long as the paint isn't actually on the part of the surface that is being welded it won't effect the weld itself. The paint will heat up and give off some fumes, and possibly flake or crack while welding, but if you grind the paint back a few inches from the edges, you'll be perfectly fine as far as weld integrity and strength go. I think that drilling a hold and being very liberal with the paint application is the best idea though. It ensures that everything gets covered with something to keep moisture from the surface of the metal. If you use a wand there really shouldn't be any issues covering everything well enough.
  20. Hit it with some high temp engine enamel on the back before you weld it in?
