Hi all, We tend to get a bad deal on Z bits here in England, and my 2+2 is in need of an interior retrim. I was wondering if anyone could recommend interior kits that I could import. Something similar to this? http://www.zcentre.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=21_43_67 So for a 2+2 I'm looking at £850, or $1725 dollars. How does that fair with what you guys pair for just the trim, not fitted etc? Thanks v much
-
No I completely missed that, thank you I'll start trying to come up with a drawing myself then.
-
Thanks for the links guys. They look pretty simple to make, if I could get some decent drawings of them I'd probably go that route. Pete's chassis rails don't follow exactly the original ones so I could probably do that.

Hi all, I've done some searching of the web and this forum but haven't had any luck so far. I've shot blasted my 240 shell and the chassis rails are a bit of a patchwork quilt. I'm of the do it once and do it properly school of thought so... 1) I'm trying to source some accurate drawings of the chassis rails so I can make them/have them made. I'm in England and they are available but a silly price to be honest. If I have to I'll pay it but I know the local fabricators could do a really good job of them. 2) I'm only a hobbiest so I need to make myself some sort of jig, and for this I'll need measurements, hopefully to the original Nissan spec. I've never attempted anything like this, so I'm a bit worried that I'll weld it all back up and have a car that crabs up the road. However it's already had the front rails replaced so it might not be straight anyway If anyone has anything that can help I'd appreciate it, if not I'll have to go about trying to measure up the best car I can find here and try and figure it out for myself. Thanks Russ

is this all you need to use the azc pixtons???

I've got some of those pistons. You can see pics at http://www.zclub.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4374&cat=500&ppuser=1&sl=r if you're interested in what you get. Anyway just putting it into LENGINE, I used L28 block, L24 rods, E88 head, FELPRO gasket, 1mm overbore, L28 crank, L28 flat top pistons (but changed the pin height to 35.7mm) and it gives me 10.5:1. Wouldn't bet my life on me doing it right though I intend to deck the block and skim the head a bit anyway, enough to take me up to 11:1 comp. Then one day I'll put my L24 crank in it, straight back to 8:25:1 and turbo time (I guess that compression is ok for a turbo, I know nothing). Cheers -
Gonna need some very light and strong internals for that, and lots of balancing

jhaag: Brilliant mate, thanks. I appreciate the contribution and modifications The books list is a great idea, I'll add to it this weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement BitWel, I've had a nice response so far, I'm going to busy trying to add as much as I can for the next couple months which in turn will *hopefully* help things along. b sosick: I think the two are very different places I wouldn't dare think about trying to replace this site, firstly it'd fail, secondly what would be the point. Whereas this site covers Hybrid Zs perfectly, the encyclopedia is to be a resource about Zs in general, the cars, specifications, history, people involved in them etc Thanks again

Hello all, I know things similar to this exist, but on behalf of my Z club (The Z Club of GB http://zclub.net) I have set up http://www.aboutz.net/ What I'm hoping to do is create an encyclopedia (using the same framework as wikipedia) for anything related to Zs. I know of a nice 350z one, but I hope this will eventually encompass all models, and provide a free and open resource for us to call upon. The way it works is people are able to freely contribute to the site, and add information. I'm trying to encourage my club to add things as and when they find something of use, and it can be anything so long as there is a link to Zs somewhere. My friend is a big drifting fan and so added details of drivers who have drifted 350zs, later on tonight I intend to add details of what to look for when buying a Z32 along with VIN number and production years for S30s It's ugly at the moment, and will need some tweaking, but hopefully if we get the ball rolling then maybe it'll be a nice place for us all to reference. My only concern is regional variations between the cars, but wikipedia is so successful that I have some faith it'll work out ok. Anyway I hope a few of you will find time to take a quick look, there isn't much to see at the moment, but as the content grows hopefully so will the visitors. Any feedback is welcome, oh and HybridZ information is also welcome in the encyclopedia. Thanks, Russ

Have always had good reports of Taylor leads. Can't you just have them made to the length you want? I know it's personal taste but I'd avoid a stainless braid on a HT lead, not really any point to it

Looks lovely and I can't get my head around the internal welds. Will be interested to see how it runs -
Thanks guys. Phantom, I have most definately NOT forgotten about Steves car If I'm honest it's the one I'm most looking forward to. Steve has yet to make me a video so I have nothing to show, soon as he does I'll show the world Cheers

Well I have noticed the sound seemed to cut in and out, but I thought it was just part of the film and trying to be 'stylish'...

EZ-E: use the Videolan player as mentioned. I checked the movie out, I wish there were more films involving S30s (especially upsetting Porsches).

Mike, You Sir are a genius. I have no idea why I missed thinking of Arizona Z car A guy in our club has basically just bought everything in their catalogue and it looks superb, can't wait to get myself some of that. I will ring them tonight (mid day for you guys) and see what we can come up with. Thanks for letting me know,

Hi, Not sure this is the right forum, but thought you guys maybe interested in whats happening in the UK at the moment. Off the top of my head there are about 10 HybridZ in build and probably the same complete. Considering there are only 200 240zs in the country and less 260s etc it's quite a high ratio. Anyway here are two links to a couple of recently MOT'd cars, lots of work to do still probably. Sadly they are not my cars, just club members, I expect they are on here as well so apologies if this is a duplicate. Firstly a Z32 600zx http://www.zclub.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3544 And a 240 with a TVR V8 http://www.zclub.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3536 Anyway if it wasn't for Darius' video on the net, and then me finding THIS forum I'd never have even known about Zs, so thank you guys for that Cheers

DAW: Thank you for your help. Well it all started with taking the engine out because I couldn't get my exhaust manifold off Then I decided to paint the block, and then here I am. Originally I wanted to do it stock standard, and concentrate on learning to tune my SUs, but the more I took it apart the more "whilst I'm in here I might as well do this" came up. I don't want to throw money at it as I am planning a hybrid z in a few years time, but I also want a nice motor. My current plan is this 1.75" round tops with ITG or K&N filter and trumpets on standard manifold E88 head, bigger valves, new seats/guides, gently flowed Rally cam (from Dave Jarman over here, he builds rally Zs) P90 block +1mm overbore L24 rods/crank ARP bolts throughout I may have the bottom end balanced, but I need to research that first. It's just pistons really. I don't mind paying over the odds for most parts as I appreciate it costs money to get here etc, but the pistons don't seem such a good deal and seeing as I'm doing a reasonable amount to the rest of the engine I thought it'd be nice to have some quality pistons. I have a load of books on the engine so checked I have the 9mm bolts, which I do I'm looking at 9.45:1 compression, although I'm going to have all faces very lightly skimmed so compression should be heading up to nearly 10:1, dependant on gasket. Tony: Thank you very much for the offer, and the Buick Riveria sounds lovely. I'm not near Liverpool/Manchester but probably know someone who is. I'm in no great hurry for the pistons, I'd sooner wait and do it properly that rush it now. If I go to the effort of getting pistons from the states, and more importantly I put you out, then I'll go for the $600 forged pistons mentioned earlier by RedNeckZ. Thanks
-
Thank you for your help guys. RedNeckZ: Thanks for the 280zx advice. I have been in touch with VB twice now trying to buy pistons but they just aren't interested in selling to me. Each time they promise to find out shipping and never get back to me. Same with Motorsport Auto and others, they only want to use FedEx 3 day delivery or something so I'm looking at $300 to post + probably 15% import duty It actually works out cheaper to fly to the US myself and get them (apart from getting from the airport to the Z shop). Daw: I've no idea of the engines history and although it looks good I'd sooner overbore. Just means that whilst the engine is in pieces I can do it all properly and once, and then it'll be good for as long as I have it. One option I may try is finding myself a US 'friend' who can ship something to me here. There are a couple companies that do similar, I'll have to check it out. JaysZ: Yeh checked that out before thanks, really handy TheNeedForZ: That's interested about the VG30 pistons! I shall look around for some prices for those here. My Z is a early-mid '73 and afaik has the correct number of weights, I'll check it out next time I'm in the garage, thanks. Few pics of my car/engine in pieces if you have two minutes to waste http://www.zclub.net/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=537

Hi all, I finally finished uni, got my 240 (hooray) and then realised I needed to totally rebuild the engine so getting stuck into that now. I am going for a 2.8 block with my 240 rods/head/crank for a short stroke engine. I think a +1mm overbore is in order so that's 87mm flat tops I need. Now I know all Z parts are cheaper in the states, but unfortunately shipping and customs makes it expensive to get the parts here. I have 6 pistons with rings for £300 here ($523) which is the cheapest I could find. I am looking to find either better pistons (maybe even forged) for the same or similar money... can anyone recommend anything? I saw some Honda pistons that were bought for the purpose but they needed different rods. I think I can buy from Europe without having to pay import duty and the shipping would be cheaper. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them, so long as they are on topic Thanks in advance

Any more news on this topic? I started the thread years ago, would be nice to see one pic of something Keep up the good work

Hey Andy good to see you here Big up the Z Club of Great Britain http://www.zclub.net I remember you said you could do a v8 z for little or big money depending on the route you took, looks like you took the right one! Same way I'm headed in the next couple years I hope! Anyway best of luck, looks like these guys know their stuff -
Excellent, thanks for the info. Good decision making in streetable, you'll probably drive it twice as often that way Cheers

Hi, Sounds very impressive. I help run the Z Club (http://www.zclub.net) over here in the UK and recently got into stroking the L6. Unfortunately theres no Rebello over here but I'm sure we'll sort something. I wanted to ask, if you were to continue work on the engine is there anything you'd like to do? It's already very impressive but I'm curious. Is there any chance you have a video of the engine in car, rolling you can put up please? I'd like to see the whole package in action. Well done on beating the WRX, I know now that a quality stroked L6 is faster than my friends CRX Enjoy the car

Hey Phil! Tis I, Russ, from the Z club, I do the website Mate your in Bristol, I'm in Taunton! Are you going to Billing this year??? Nice to see someone vaguely familiar here and doing their bit for the UK... which happens to be very sunny at the moment, 27 deg C or something silly! I have the JTR manual but no Z yet but I'm looking to go the SBC route (unless I can get an R34 GTR lump and floorpan in somehow ), I'd be interested to read more about your car if you have a link? Cheers
