  1. 1968 Camaro Z28 3695lbs

Yeah right, I want to know who made up that number. I know plenty of people in the 3200 pound range without removing ANYTHING.

    1970 CHEV CAMARO Z28 3640 lbs.

That I can maybe believe, 2nd gens were BIG cars, first gens not on your life. I could push my LUXURY equiped 69 Firebird 400/400 EASILY, much easier in fact than my 94 and I was easily 30 pounds lighter back then.

  2. We seem to have had a spate of posts from newbies lately talkin about how they want/need 500, 700 or even 1000hp! Madness!

I question how many of these folks have felt that kind of horsepower, to think that they really WANT it in a car that weighs barely more than they do. Even in my heavy Camaro I was able to get the rear to step out, driving in a straight line, when shifting the gears hard. Going up into 3rd was OK so its not a huge deal, but in a little car with serious power there is going to be some driver skill needed and some FAT tires, or else it will just be wasted, useless power which is no more than bling bling. Add even "only" 200 HP to a car and it really changes things quickly, and you can get moving to dangerous speeds VERY quickly.

  3. Actually they do a little for stock engines, just like the TB bypass - nobody really expected anything from it. I'd rather spend $300 on something else, and if your going to do it dont bother with a 52mm IMO go 58mm - except then you have to work the intake. As for the mono from a 48mm stocker, it wont be as big as an ASM mono, but its cheap I spose.

  4. Yeah, most of the aftermarket TBs have a stupid IAC setup - and I wasn't going to pay Holley money, when all it requires was a 1/2" peice of pipe (used thin copper). Then drilled the an IAC bypass hole which it didn't even have like the stocker does, before that my IAC counts were maxed @ 160 and the car would not even idle.

  5. I said the same thing, Filipino gangsters used to do that here, as well as a Chinese dude I knew, who ended up doing 2 years for who knows what (probably got caught stealing stereos again, as well as claiming to have killed 3 people).

  6. I know someone that was considering it, but I think Nomad is the only one that has done it for sure (Shannon). He also does 52mm from the 48mm stocker, I just bought a 58mm BBK and fixed the IAC circuit they so crudely hacked together.

  7. He may have had it on an engine dyno.

As far as Arnold, while having competed at around 70 pounds lighter than todays heavy competitors, he was THE MAN. However I find it funny that anyone thinks they can get that big without a serious diet (todays pros eat every 1.5-3 hours, for me 6x a day is good 'nuf), and of course roids which have been illegal for casual use since I believe 1992, although of course people still do em which is why we still have pro bodybuilding.

  8. I agree, if you want 700 HP I'd suggest you come from a 500 HP car first, going from barely over 300 HP to around 480 was HUGE difference and made my car scary. Takes awhile to get used to new found power especially on a road car, with 700 HP you have alot of engineering deficiencies to overcome as well.

  9. is that how they came from the factory...

i don't know' date=' it looks horid in my opinion, functional or not, just doesn't look good imo... but hey, without the wing the car is oldskool muscle and with it also[/quote']

Yes, thats how it came - and I agree its a nasty looking car (IMO), but I'm not a Mopar guy at all. Some of them are ok, but by and large they weight about as much as decomissioned ARMY tanks, not my style. Give me a first gen Camaro over a Mopar any day, I dont care if it doesn't have a Hemi.

As for the wing being functional over 100 MPH, what wing isn't? There is no need for downforce under 100 unless you drive a BUG.

  10. No way, its a thinner block. The cap design is what eats power, the front apperantly is the worst. Here is a snippet of info from one of George Baxter's buddies, who has a fairly fast LT1 in his own right.

Just remember... an S/C application imposes greater loads on the block than a turbo for a given net flywheel HP output. The S/C drive HP has to come from power made through the crankshaft. When George was netting 1,125HP at the flywheel, he was probably taking 150-175HP off the front of the crank... meaning the combustion chambers were making closer to 1,300HP. When the issue of LT1 block limits has been discussed before, Madman claimed to be making 1,200HP with his ATI setup. Neither George or Madman suffered a catastrophic failure, but they had the benefit of seeing the condition of the block when they tore things down. They both came to the same conclusion... don't push it any farther.

If I can jog my memory on how to search for other comments of his on friction I'll post up.

  11. LS1's are all forged bottom ends. They can handle a procharger as I know two people with them on their SS/Z28 combo's. 600 ponies.

We all know how fabulous factory forged rods are  As for the pistons they are hypereutectic, not forged - your thinking Ford. The ringlands are even smaller than the LT1, sorry man but you are smokin some good stuff to think they will suck up 600 HP easily.
