  1. For you biker types there is one famous documentary, forgive me for mudering the title "On One Sunday" I think it is but I dont remember for sure. Was made during the 70s I believe, saw it about a year ago.

  2. I still dont get it, what does spraying another car with nitrous (its funny, dont get me wrong) do to the other car? Mess up the paint? (Im talking about jay1970z's avatar, BTW).

Nothing at all, its just a "joke", if it screwed up the paint or something that would be f'ed up.

  3. Big? I'm 6'2" and was 240 not too long ago, I'm down to 231 and I dont consider myself big. I did have 2 japanese buddies in high school that were brothers, 6 foot and 127-135 pounds depending. When they went to visit thier folks in Hong Kong they would hardly eat a thing, so they always came back light.

260+ depending on height, thats big :)

  4. Some states are now doing ONLY a PCM download to verify that the computer has not been modded, in other words maybe a checksum or a byte by byte verification. Once this is complete and checks out, and if no SES light you pass smog, I dont expect this is many states.

Some others are downloading the PCMs also but not yet as a mandatory part of the smog test, I guess they are working it in. Here in CA this is not yet done that I'm aware of, however many smog dynos are being installed with cameras, FWIW.

  5. Another of my favorites' date=' "Christine"

I can`t remember the name of this one, but it has a very nervous guy driving a red Dart/Valiant being chased through the rockies by an old semi tanker truck. the tanker eventually runs of of a cliff. :?[/quote']

I've seen that, the driver was a famous actor as I recall... the truck driver in the end gets run off a cliff himself doesn't he? The guy is trying to leave town and that truck just follows him around mysteriously, and he never finds out who it is. Or was it the car that loses, I can't remember.

  6. BTW, the "smog exempt" rule only means your car is exempt from annual inspections. Technically even "smog exempt" cars are suppose to meet all smog requirements.

Yep, if you really want to be legal if you update the engine your supposed to get the vehicle re-certified, which means time and money, and yes carrying over any smog related equipment for the car, charcoal canister, the whole 9 yards.

Also as noted above, removing a CAT or similar is a federal offense.

  7. Yea, but supposedly it is a stronger block due to the webbing, and the higher content of something in the metal... I forget exactly what, I want to say Nickle, but I'm not sure...

Yep, Nickel, same in the LS1 blocks between the two MFG plants, one had more nickel content and was chosen for making the LS6 block (which some say sucks anyway).

  8. Well, again while I like the 240Z better I will not partake in flaming the Camaros handling abilities. Stock 3rd gen Camaros (HP levels), weighing in at 3200 pounds and Toyo R1 (crappy race tires), with the right driver will turn a 2:04-2:10 at Thunderhill. They are allowed some spring/shock mods, no coil overs, no brake mods other than pads, no big sway bars, everything has had to be OEM at one point other than pads/springs/shocks and of course a roll cage. There is also a ride height minimum which is a little higher than my street 94 Z28.

Not many cars can dip under th 2:04 mark period, even on better tires. If you can't make your Camaro go fast around the track then you suck or something is wrong with your setup. My Z28 in stock form right off the bat handled better than my 97 Cobra, a much more expensive car. Thats my 12 cents.

  9. I have a 94 Z28 so I dont have an LS1, but I did make 411/385 at the wheels with my LT1. I have Koni DAs, 600# front springs and 140-160# rears, subframes, STB, Yoko AVS rubber. My car is much lower than your average ProKit car, even a 1" lip on the street is scary at anything over 10 MPH.

With that, my car is pretty darn grippy, for a Camaro. However, if you want balls to the wall handling the 240Z while needing SOME work, on a modest budget already outperforms my Z28 in corners with who even knows what kind of struts on there. I cut 1.5 coils off the front springs and the rear are 2+2 with unknown coils cut, figure about the same. So with just those two things (no rear sway bar even), the car is extremely predictable and sticks like NOBODIES business. I have 195/60 on 15x7" wheels, and they are 300 treadwear, nowhere as sticky as my AVS Intermediates on the Z28.

When I ran the car at Sears in my own little group, the only car I saw that was faster than me was a 2470 pound 460 HP Cobra replicar with 17x9"/17x11" rubber, no way I could keep up with that with 130 HP.

One thing that would greatly help the Camaro out is 17x11" wheels all the way around with 315 Victoracers for track days only. For genuine ZR1 wheels + rubber your already looking at more than what my 240Z cost. My 240Z was $1500 with a straight body and in overall pretty good shape, ran it at the track with basic fluid swap and my cut springs. My 195 tires are about equivalent to a 295 on the Camaro, so for less money the 240Z IMO is a better road car, well WAY less money that is. Once you start going V8 conversion, full cage, coil overs, bigger rubber and so on it will get pricey sure, but will still outhandle a Z28 with even MORE money dumped into it, on top of its more expensive buy in price ($10k+).

I like the Camaro, its roomier than the 240 and overall is a pretty nice car to drive, I'm daily driving mine currently. I love the torque over a puny 2.4L NA, and it has pretty good handling, but when I corner hard I know that I could really run circles around myself with the 240Z, it is so easy to drive and so dead on neutral, and sticks even with my "crappy" 300 treadwear rubber.

Plan is to get some 16x8" or 17x8" Centerlines with race bubber for track days, until I can decide/afford to go balls to the wall with custom wheels and fat flares.

I got bored of the Camaro on the track, and a bit tired of working on the car in general (tight engine compartment). When I stepped into a 2136 pound car as my daily driver for nearly a year, it changed my viewpoints drastically on what the ultimate drivers machine would be. Go light and go big on the rubber if possible, and the Camaro wasn't going to do it.

If I had to stay American it would be a first gen Camaro (no smog, better looking, lighter, sexier?), otherwise the 240Z still gets a big fat thumbs up IMO, its an experience that has to be lived. Once you see and feel first hand, you can either lie to yourself about the Z28s potential, or you string together some foul language in the middle of your cornering, its an adrennalin rush for awhile. I was just so amazed at how much I could push the car and it was asking for MORE MORE, I was afraid to push it because I was going so much faster in corners!

Anyhow, thats my experience, I could talk about it all day, get a ride with someone if you can, even if the damn thing is bone stock.
