  1. Bendable tubing like wrinkle wall? Its a nitpick but its not as good as mandrel, why did you buy the car and throw an LT1 in it if you weren't ready for "alot of work" right? You are doing alot of work! How many people wont even change thier spark plugs, for those that even know WTH they are.

    However I do not have a Corvette definition file, if you can give me the PN on the PCM I can check to see if they are actually the same, but since the Vette has a master computer I do not believe they have the same memory allocations/spaces. If it is like Tunercat says, that I will need a new PCM file, I can get it for $20 and would be glad to flash it.

     

    I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

  3. I know the turbo engine better than the NA, but on the Turbo the distrubutor (except on 81 cars) is the full monte when it comes to telling the computer when to fire injectors and ignition. My understanding is the NA diz is a magnetic trigger instead of optical? I know the ign module is built onto the side of the housing.

     

    Anywho, I found out that my injectors and my coil module were dead. I unhooked the fuel pump (you can do this via relay), and turned the diz over by hand to listen to each injector firing, only 2 made any noise at all. I pinned out the entire computer all the way back to the key several times (about 8), all trying to find this mystery problem. I got a signal from the diz, and to the ign module but the module never fired, tested coil resistance as well. So anyhow, grab a book if you dont have one and test test test, otherwise all these guesses can be expensive :(

  4. Hell yes I have Tunercat, I wont touch LT1 Edit with a 10 foot pole. Not only based on price, but being forced to run the software 100% in Winblows. I'm a sys admin and I would not put my life support system on Windows anytime soon, DOS I would trust much more so, Unix more so than that.

     

    So, for the sake of running my near 200 if not over 200 flashes, and never wanting to send my PCM in, I use DOS and only DOS - although Tunercat now has a Windows flash utility as well. My current laptop is too slow for me to risk trying it, but I will someday (several reads before any writes). The advantage to being in Windows is the ability to avoid reboots while on the dyno.

     

    I have used Tunercat on 3 different laptops in my car and never had a problem.

  5. Jim, you dont get somethin' for nothin', thats true. Yet another reason todays cars have freakish alternators pumping out 140A+. I'm staying electric myself, better cooling in traffic (for those picky or who really need it due to HP or ducting issues), turn it off or on whenever I want (either by switch, or by computer which I set and forget), yada yada. Its a personal preference thing I guess, but like carbs I think they are a thing of the past, for my own project type vehicles.

    Designed by Lotus, built by Mercury ;) Yeah, it was badass 10 years ago. Its heavy in part because its quad cam (cam swap is going to be at least $1,000). With LS1s and LS6 beating it like a redheaded step child, its nothing but bling factor, but thats just my opinion. The intake manifold has an adjustable baffling internally, which helps with low end power by closing some of the runner off.

     

    Tim Allen had one in an Imp that supposedly did a burnout for the full quarter, but never having seen it, who knows.

Yeah the ZR1 engines were about 25k in crate form, same power as an LS1 and sooooo much more, LS1s are more than I'd want to spend already :shock: They have come down alot, maybe the average price for a ZR1 engine is around 13k or so, see a few now and again on eBay. Heavier, bulkier, more expensive to work with, hmm give me something else :) It was a great engine 10 years ago, but I think thats the key, 10 years ago.
