  2. Moby, sweet site! The only thing I dont like, is the hunting stuff, only based on the assumption that they aren't eating thier kill. If they are, then I have no qualms. My dad never shot anything he wouldn't eat.
  3. The second guy is in shock LoL and is grabbing at the broken glass, just crazy...
  4. I agree, as much as the sticker shock sets in, this is pretty much a one time investment, and if you want to race, do it
  5. So true, the Cobra replicar I was on track with, was 2470 pounds I believe, 315 rears and 275 fronts with something like 460 horse. Very nasty car, quick!
  6. IM GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK! I'M THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. A coil over cannot replace a strut, the strut is part of the suspension, all a coil over means is an assembly with a spring over the shock/strut. Essentially this is what we have already, however it is not adjustable, and the coil over setup for our cars and most others, has a 2.5" spring ID making fitting big rubber, easier, and of course you can get springs in "any" rate for your car. Cornerweighting, yada yada Springs are $36 each I believe, from Summit, the rates not listed you can call for PN.
  9. True, true... he said it started with the car running hotter than usual, either way, the backpressure it made to get the car to the db level required, I still believe that it does cause a direct problem. Other people run 2 mufflers inline (4 for dual exaust) and have no such blowouts of gaskets or unexpected heat issues. I already broke my drivers side handle! Damn twicepipes or just damn potmetal I was expecting to use a possible turndown yes, provided I of course get rid of my twice pipes setup completely. I suppose I could tape off portions of my dual weber filters if needed, they wont really be changeable though, they are the oval and maybe 2" tall filters that are standard for the downdraft setups. It looks like I could have 3.5 hours of track time! I just cannot pass that up.
  10. Keep in mind wheel setup too, what size wheel are you running? Expect at least a 17" wheel minimum for those brakes, but not all wheels are alike in clearance, so they should provide a template for you to check and see if they fit in your current setup.
  11. Thats exactly what I said on an email list I'm on, and I'd let him by before he wrecked my 911 too!
  12. Your lucky. For people trying to pass Laguna sound regulations, one person had a blown exaust gasket (rotary spec racer), and one engine failure.
  13. http://www.howstuffworks.com/question124.htm A Lawnmower is apperantly 90db
  14. I have twice pipes and a stock exaust manifold on my 73 240Z, the car is definately going to be louder @ WOT (aka WFO) than 90db, but I have the chance to run Laguna next month if I can do something about it. Does anyone have a muffler idea, or should I just run another muffler in the center? If I get black flagged for sound 3x I will get booted from the track, and that would be a waste of big moola. No I do not want a disk type muffler, too many horror stories. Most other adjustable mufflers cost way too much. Since the twice pipes route RIGHT under my damn rear end, I wouldn't mind ripping the setup off the car anyway and making up my own exaust, so I may do that, if I can do it reasonably inexpensively since I'm jogging multiple project here, on a budget of course. I do have a 280ZXT car, but I dont imagine I could steal that setup as with the downpipe/turbo setup it wont be the same dimensions as a 240Z NA car I imagine. Otherwise, I bet the muffler is relatively quiet, it looks either stock or low-performance, bah. Ideas for getting down to 90db or a tad less for safety? I dont expect to see more than maybe 6k RPM tops, I dont want to nuke the engine, especially since I dont know its timingchain /oilpump life.
  15. My stock replacement clutch worked so well, I had no requirement to learn anything much about beefy clutches. I looked at an LT4 unit as an upgrade, people were doing near 500 RWHP just fine with those, and drag racing. So, if puck style clutches eat flywheels, I want none of that stuff!
  16. ON3, since it was AWD though you would have loaded the clutch down more, so thats worth some points
  17. You could actually make it yourself, and save about $30-$40, if of course you could find everything you need from only one place, otherwise you will get reamed on shipping. Frankly, I could not find everything from one place, so its just not worth the trouble, IMO. What I wish is that they would sell them without the springs, then I know I can save money.
  18. Jumbo, I only know that I got the info on the wheels from an Fbody driver, obviously a significantly heavier car. Our cars are light enough that I dont see much reason for concern, eventhough I want strong wheels likewise. On that note, I heard some measurements of flexion from CCW wheels and the news was not good, over 1/4" of deflection, but again this is from a heavy car standpoint.
  19. I like light, but yes its also a small curse either in the rain, trying to hook for drag guys, whatever. In terms of being easy on tires/brakes road racing, its a blessing.

I sent a link in another thread for you to look at... Get a Haynes or Chiltons! Apperantly you need it They should get you through nearly every job you will ever have to do on the car. If you have specific questions from there someone can give you a response.
  21. Oh yeah? I have turbo swastica wheels with 22x8 slicks that say different (Don't have 400hp though...yet) Oh well, you got me then I run Yoko AVS Intermediates on the Camaro, 160 treadwear, too bad they are NLA. Sumitomo HTR Z look pretty good though.
  22. Your right, I am probably fooling myself into thinking I'd enjoy dropping the trans That sounds like a blast.
  23. Twin turbo would be so "neat" but it is a pain, you'd need to fab the header and deal with all that plumbing, and more intercooler woes than before. You will still make great bottom end with a single, if anything there are guys complaining that they just spin and have too much bottom end power Sad but true, the little expenses add up, and the oft described "while your at it" syndrome which is so true, and this is where reality sets in hard This is why off the bat, I was scared of a turbo setup, because of all the not only tech that is involved, but I'm very new to turbo stuff, and I also have to deal with 91 craptane gas, and got the feeling that nothing was very possible power wise on our pump gas. Then you have the intercooler issue, thankfully I found out they aren't too pricey on eBay, and if needed on race days I can run some tolulene or just plain 100 octane or whatever is available. Going beyond the powerplant, you will want to upgrade your rear probably, you will want more wheels/tires, you may want to fix up some rust that you will find, new paint, yada yada. A project is never ending, and can very easily soak up ridiculous money, all these things hit home so hard that again I am a bang for the buck person. I have known guys that spent 4k on lightweight forged wheels, about $1200 on tires, and then complain how they can't afford a heads/cam swap... But to save 2 pounds a wheel versus another companies race wheels (and this person doesn't even race), they spent almost 3 grand more than a set of 17x11" and 17x9.5" that would have done the same job, but of course didn't have the same bling bling value. I am a big dreamer too, but you have to be reasonable, because it just isn't feasible. People that dont do thier own work could have $80,000 cars that run 11s, guys that do thier own work could just as easily have a $20,000 car that runs 11s with lots of parts that may not really be needed, but again there are things that you will want to have, wether convenience or maybe a dressup item or two, cool seats to hold you in down, and etc! Sooooo many things. 400 HP on 15x6" wheels is just not going to cut it, neither did 411 RWHP on 255/50-16" tires, it was ridiculous, so upgrades are a given Then you could find a person with a $5000 car that does all thier own work, and runs 11s, with only bare essentials (I dare you to try and find one though, but I bet they are out there! Like the $1000 5.0 swapper, its almost unthinkable). Anyway I'm blabbing, and I need to put things on paper more solidly also just to get the thing running and in my 240Z! Much less all hopped up and putting serious numbers out
