  1. I would love to spank some Z06s, heck even in my pig overweight Camaro I ran one off road at Thill, I bet that was embarrasing
  2. Not without buying an electronic boost controller, otherwise your not going to be doing anything from within the car other than driving. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18892
  3. Actually the Z06 in 2002, was around 3117 pounds I had thought it was 3050 when it first came out, but who knows. I know a guy, that doesn't have alot of track experience, who got his Z06 to do a 2:10 at Thunderhill which is pretty good, bone stock. Its not stupendous, but for a driver who spends most of his time dragging his Camaro, its a pretty good run IMO, especially on street tires. Are people trying to say its not as comfy? Its actually considered a softer suspension setup than the Cobra R and the Viper ACR, the ACR actually got about the worst scores of the lot because it supposedly had "unpredictable" handling characteristics. The Cobra R was said to be very stiff, but still didn't post spectacular numbers, but of course as a disclaimer you never know what the magazine guys know and how well they can really drive and yada yada. Historically from what I'm told (CMC guys) say that the Stangs are usually harder to drive but dont neccessarily suck. I know my 97 Cobra, with the shorter wheel base, 4x4 pickup stance, was more tail happy than my Camaro, maybe thats supposed to be more fun I dont know, IMO though I'd rather have something more predictable. Of course the Cobra at least didnt have dinky brakes. I drove a friends hotcam/headers car recently and after driving the 240Z for several months now, I could not help but gasp and laugh at the same time at how pathetic the brakes are on the LT1 cars, really really soft, you almost are supprised that more people dont crash those things overestimating thier braking distances, pretty sad.
  4. Twin turbo would be awesome, but plenty more difficult because you would be forced to fab up some headers, intake and intercooler routing as well (I just saw a Porch TT intercooler on eBay). It has been done (haven't seen any cars running yet though?), if you dig around the Turbo forum I believe is where you will find TT header pix, if not I can dig them up or someone else can post the link. If you avoid the TT job then you can run the stock manifold and upgrade to TT later, once you understand the turbo getup a bit better, as far as what kind of fuel issues you will need to take care of, intercooling, and other things to expect. At that point you may well want to pull out the engine and refresh it, maybe go full floaters on the rods as well, better cam setup, headwork, stainless and polished exaust valves, and other upgrades like that.
  5. Ok, now I read the subject line Why go through all that trouble of stroking it, unless your looking for monsterous HP/TQ? Refresh the engine or just run a good condition junkyard block, freshen things up a bit (injectors maybe, better fuel pump, etc) and you should be able to make 250 RW fairly easily, I'm looking for simply about 250 crank to start with. I would suggest hitting the Turbo forum for some surfing, for your power levels I am guessing a hybrid turbo is going to be the way to go, boring out your stocker or a core that you can find, and a good intercooler and some way to fix the fuel issues with such power (more pressure, upgraded injectors, some way to avoid leaning out i.e. rising rate regulator).
  6. I dont believe I've heard of 300 HP crank (around 250 RWHP) without 13:1 compression or so, which would not be running on pump gas without massively retarded timing. I have heard of 287 crank HP with big bore SUs, and it runs on pump gas, its a guy who works for Rebello and owns several track records, despite this fact nobody believes it exists, his name is Mike Yoes. You can find his Thunderhill 1:57 record here: http://www.sfrscca.org/RoadRacing/Records/Thill28/gt3.htm Expect to pay a ton of money to do the stroker buildup, and then very ported heads. As for MPG I have no idea, but traditionally big cammed cars dont make MPG, they make top end power. Thankfully these cars are light so low end should hopefully still be acceptable, especially if your going to gear it "appropriately." I was going to do a budget buildup with my F54 (re-ring it, new bearings/seals), and slap on a ported N42, but I decided to just go turbo. You have mentioned parts, but I didn't see anything about a cam, your heads and cam go together to make power, simply adding more cubes, wont do much alone. If your making 168 HP on 168 cubes (for simplicity), and you add 18 cubes expect to make maybe 18 more HP. You are going to need to increase VE to make more HP, and of course RPM since this will require a bigger cam. I would suggest not looking at second rate shops for head work, not only for HP but for reliabilities sake, and hopefully some retention of bottom end power.
  7. Went to start my car this morning, and my key would not go in! Long story short, I broke the tumbler starting it with a screwdriver (tumbler still works but the center part broke outwards from the twisting force). Tore the tumbler apart once I got the car turned off at work, and I see just over a 3/4" long peice of key, and it looks like a Datsun key. If it were there, I dont see how I could have started my car all these months so easily, because I dont see how there would be space for two keys, so I can only assume that someone half hazardly tried to steal the car? However I didn't notice anything else abnormal, and unfortunately my doors wont lock. Passenger door wont lock because its not hung quite right, and the drivers side wont open from the outside anyway because the door handle is broken (it appears to be pot metal, just freaking snapped one day). Anywho, looking at the tumbler I dont see how a 3/4" long key chunk could have been there, and me able to stick a second key in all the way, to start it, so I can only assume someone wanted my ride, and it looks like a Nizzan key.
  8. I know a guy that got booted for drifting at Thunderhill. He wasn't doing it to this ricey of an extent, but track operators dont want to see idiots out there causing harm to their own pocketbooks/lives, or anyone elses. If you dirt track, or are in a ralley go for it, otherwise keep it off the tracks lest you get something wrong and kill someone or take out thier car. It can be fun once in awhile, but fun to me is being fast, not making a jackass of myself.
  9. Heh, I have an uber jack, 3 foot long arm body is probably 42" or so, will raise up I think 28" (I forget), 99 pounds though. There was another jack model up but I wasn't willing to spend more than $400.
  10. I dont like the supercharger thing either. Why can't they make power NA? I still prefer cubes over trying to hop up a go-kart sized engine. Plus the Cobras are now in the 3700 pound territory, that is pigish, its a small car compared to the Vette, Fbody, and Viper yet it weighs the most. Being a wannabee road racer, I'd be stuck with an overweight car, which is going to hurt me in the tire and my brake departments, and then I have to figure out how to work the intercooler/race gas issue, although I'll have to do that anyway with the Turbo car. If I'm going to buy a V8, why can't they give me cubes, and why does it have to weigh 2 tons with me in it???
  11. A modest fire truck water pump, runs off the driveline, and is about the size of a BBC.
  12. Dirt tracks are the only place drifting belongs, it may be fun but it isn't racing, on a road course.
  13. Heck no, hardly any of them are LSD.
  14. It may beat Quaife price, but if its going to cause premature gear wear, never perform like the real thing, I'm not interested. I did a couple days research and it looks like nothing more than false economy.
  15. Telemarketing is freaking spam, I hate it.
  16. I wonder if he is the guy that put his Z06 into a tree, when fooling around on the street.
  17. One thing to think about maybe, is that weed is a "gateway" drug, people sometimes move from that to something harder later on. So perhaps I could understand the thinking, that outlawing the little guy keeps people using less hardcore stuff. I never thought about doing heroin, crack or any stuff like that though, and I'm sure others likewise wouldn't touch it.
  18. Diesels are the king of towing, but yes, a TQ monster is NOT the same as a HP monster, so you kind of have to make a choice You can always go with a gear swap though, problem them is MPG and wear with higher RPM use.
  19. Interesting, the truck LS1s are also a bit different. The 6.0 LS1 (iron block) comes with a set of heads that have LS6 flow potential, but LS1 cars have enough flow without being touched to make 390 RWHP with a whimpy 224/224 cam. Something not possible at all even on an LT4 car, without head work. A friend of mine has a Dodge truck, and wanted to make it sound more aggressive, unfortunately though if you want to keep your torque you dont go sticking a huge monster cam in the truck. If you guys have heads that flow close to 290 on the intake side, stock, I would be shocked.
  20. I find the stock brakes with steel lines, extremely powerfull. Without going to a vented rotor, I am of the opinion that doing anything with the brakes, other than good pads/fluid/steel lines and brake ducting is a waste of time.
  21. I believe there is a set that does, and a set that doesn't. There are also Mazda 4 pot which are the same company, but haven't seen them used successfully yet.
  22. It would rehab me I think! I dont think its a race war, unless they are the ones just getting cought more often. I think that black people much up such a large part of prison population for obvious reason(s), growing up impoverished for the most part. When people have virtually no money crime goes through the roof all the time, when people grow up in families with 12 kids, it can happen as well. I dont think large families are a good idea, I dont think they are socially responsible in todays world, and I dont believe you can do as good a job parenting versus having one or two kids to mentor as they grow up. Obviously there are exceptions.
  23. Yeah, AWD/4WD cars lose 10-15% through drivetrain loss, and automatics cost about 4-7% as well. That is actually pretty good, the LS1 guys were sometimes putting out 300HP to the wheels stock, and after Y2K they were doing even more than that. Those are the guys that I always wish I was one of, but damn the cars were so much more expensive, and expensive to mod, but 15º heads stock and they have so much damn potential its just nuts. I could have had a 500 HP car that passed smog, completely NA, where to get that in my LT1 on stock ported heads, it would not pass CA smog, cam was too big. 370 RWHP is about the most I could look for, and yes my torque curve is pretty good I think, I made 325 RWTQ @ 2500 (dyno start) and a peak of 385 RWTQ.
  24. Why should the masses suffer over a few stupid people, we shouldn't.
