EDIT : T45 trans
-
Wanting to trade my 98 GT for a 240, 260, or 280z. (No zxs please. ) Car has fresh yellow paint with almost no dings, and not a scratch anywhere. Interior is black leather. Small tear in drivers seat pad on the left, which you actually can't see unless you know where to look because of where it is. All power options, and all work. Tinted windows. Ice cold A/C, heat works perfectly. T-5 trans. Put in new spark plugs last month, and the 4.6 runs like a top. New rear brake pads with freshly turned rotors. Front brakes sit at about 40%. Tires are about 7 - 8/32nds all the way around, Nitto 555s. CD and cassette. I actually just recently purchased this car, planning to turn it into a drag car, but I just can't shake the Z addiction. The car was hit out front at some point it appears, but it drives straight as an arrow, and is very clean. This car is stock, so it'll make a great daily driver or a build car. I can tell you that the right front lower ball joint could use a change, I actually have a pair that I was planning on installing. The exhaust was cut off post cat by the previous owner, so it sounds pretty mean. I was planning on going through the exhaust after the forged internals and PI head/cams/intake swap was finished. As it sits, this is a basically stock 98 Mustang GT with good tires and brakes, that's ready to roll. Oh, and the odometer is not currently working, but it's a mechanical one, so I'm sure it's an easy fix. I wasn't all that worried about it given my plans for it. The engine does not leak or burn any oil. The trans. has grinded 5th on me a couple times. Any questions feel free to ask. More than happy to get pics to anyone intrested. I would prefer a swapped car to trade for. Wouldn't mind a V8, or an L28T car. Wouldn't mine an RB car either. Thanks for looking, JB Would also take $4,000 cash. Firm.

Hey, any of you guys know a good site that sells rebuild kits for an '86 300zx automatic tranny? A buddy of mine is gonna rebuild for me, but I haven't found any auto parts, just manual. Or, if anyone here wants to make me a deal on a tranny I'd be intrested in that also...but I'm guessing shipping would be pretty expensive. Anyone? Any links? Thanks, JB

Over 10k for me...I've seen them go on here for alot less though. I'm looking for a daily driver too. I'd rather spend around 2.5 - 5k... Barrett

Ok...any turbo Z car. Show me picks, and tell me how much you're asking, and if it's negotiable. Post here, or email: phstightend@hotmail.com Nothing TOO pricey please. JB

I seem to be having some trouble with my clutch in my '93 MX-6. I was driving the other day, shifted from third on the way to fourth, and my clutch pedal went limp. I pulled it back up with my toe, and it had pressure again. The next day, I shifted from first to second, and there was a loud...I don't really know how to describe it..."pop whack thunk pop!" I replaced the slave cylinder. Then the master cylinder. When bleeding the clutch, the pressure builds up in the pedal great until the car is cranked, then it goes almost completly limp, and feels spongy towards the end of the stroke. It will build SOME pressure while the car is cranked, but I still haven't accomplished what I would call a good pedal. When I put the car into gear and hold the clutch pedal to the floor, then crank it, the car takes off...hence the clutch is obviously NOT disengaging. With the car cranked and not in gear, it will not go into any gear, except occasionally reverse. Usually, reverse just grinds as you try to put it in. The other gears just refuse to grind or anything, and my RPM drop. When attempting 4th, the car will occasionally SHUT OFF. The clutch is apparently still strong...the car will move even if you have the car in low gear with the e-brake pulled and try to start it. The ONLY thing I have left...is...MAYBE the clutch fork is broken or bent??? Maybe the clutch isn't EVER disengaging? Opinions/help PLEASE! Thanks, JB

Oh yeah, I'm sure if someone is intrested you're going to want some pics of this stuff. I can get those when I get back home. (I'm in AL right now.)Also, I'm willing to work with anyone who's intrested. The offer is negotiable. Barrett

Hey all, it's been a WHILE since I posted on here. I sold my Second Z to Mark in NC...which turned out to be crap I later found out. (I only replaced the motor in it, and took it to the track once before breaking a half-shaft.) Well, since selling that car, I had a beautiful Caddy pearl white 5.0 convertible Mustang GT (1990)...and then I sold that recently, as it just wasn't reasonable to drive around with the gas prices the way they are. Now I've got a 1993 MX-6, and I just can't take it...there is no aftermarket hope for this thing...some $800 seats and some pretty body kits...that's about it. The turbo swaps I hear about for it cost more than most engine/turbo swaps I've heard of. I know of one 13 second MX-6 where I live...and it couldn't have been cheap considering I'm sure he had to rebuild the trans-axle with performance goodies or get a high-performance one. Anyway...here's the deal. I want a Z. Something TURBO is a must. Either a zxt, or a late model with a turbo swap done. OR I'd consider a decent late model n/a. I have to offer: 1993 MX-6 (new slave and master cylinder) - Red, w/ white Ford Probe wheels NEW - Rockford Fosgate PUNCH 2400W Amp (Still in box) NEW - 2 Memphis HPO 10" subs in VT box AND $500 cash. Look, if someone doesn't work with me here...I'm going to end up with a sweet looking, mega bass, SLOW car. I don't want that. I want something fast and I'll live without the Bass...and the looks for now. I need something STREETABLE. P.S.> Wasn't sure where to post this. The site has changed a litle since I last posted. Later, JB

Anyone have any idea what a 300zx is doing with "Rosenthal" badges on it? There's a Datsun badge, and next to it, a "Rosenthal" badge...it's on a '84...no...it's not a dealer tag... JB

Here's a REAL Camero. It's my buddy Kyle's. 383 Strocker (Crate)...they are about to tub it though (he and his dad) and that will be it for the freeway fun...but I'm thinking they'll be doing some damage at the race track soon. He's looking for 11's to start off with...previously running 12.9's...not bad for that big hunk of steel. In a way, I wish they'd leave the car the way it is though, it's been restored so much that the car actually looks like it was just driven off the show room floor in '81. (As you can probably see. Even the interior is perfect. The only thing different about it is the dash, which his dad custom fabbed and is no sporting a set of 5 inch and 3 and 1/4 inch guages, as well as new blinker signals and an emergency brake "engaged" light. Anyway, just thought a share. Pics: http://www.angelfire.com/pro/rkr/Z28.html The picture of the motor was taken before the stroker install... It's great to see the muscle spanking his mom's Z3. Oh, and I got a new gear set from Double D performance instead of a T-56 Tremec...I saved some money, and actually came out of the deal with stronger gears, and could keep the short throw shifter I already had...all in all I saved 1800 bucks and got a more durable tranny...and my short shifter...tremecs are a little notchy for me anyway... Later, JB

It's an '82, it's free...the body is in good shape, the interior isn't too great...more info later...I'll be picking it up within the next few weeks, and I'll post some pictures... BTW, the 350 Vega we're building is coming along good, I've got it gutted and the frame rails and floor pans are going in next, then we'll pull it in the shop and strengthen the drive train a little...we've already got a drive shaft we can shorten...then we'll drop in the 425 horsies and the saginaw 4 speed...then...we'll pray... Oh, my 5.0's Tremec (T-56) is on the way too! Can't wait...next I'll give it a shot of some of Powerdyne's supercharged pony magic...I think I'm going to start with the 9 psi version... JB
-
Thanks for that info. I'll use this to get started...oh and now I've got another project...a 1964 Impala...a friend wants me to restore it... JB
-
Thanks for the info guys. JB
-
Well, they look like pretty good, but if I'm only going to need shift forks...1,500+ is a little steep. If I do have to rebuild the whole tranny, I may end up with one of these... Thanks for the info, JB
-
Well since I'm not going to be dragging with the 4 banger, and I've already planned for some serious suspension mods and subframe connectors etc...I think I'm going to have a fun dragster...but anyone who wants to flame my little project may feel free to donate a Z. JB
-
The R200 will take it, but I've learned from past experiences that you're going to want some stronger halfshafts and stub axles. After putting the 2nd 350 in my old 240, I made about 1/10th of a pass down the quarter strip before my halfshafts twisted in half...but it's a good way to find out you're making good power. Find a shop that can fabricate you some good halfshafts/stub axles, and you'll be set. JB

I've talked to a few people about the problem, and the general comment is that the problem is most likely the shift forks. They tend to bend in these 5.0's after much (deserved ) abuse. Hopefully I'll be replacing shift forks instead of a full rebuild...then again it may be a good idea to go ahead and rebuild while the tranny is dropped... JB

Hey guys, my girlfriend is getting into drag racing, and she'd talked her dad into building a dragster. As I was asked to help with the project, I wasn't very pleased with the selction of the host vehicle. It was a 2500 Chevy truck. An '89. I managed to talk my boss (her dad) into buying a motor that I had built a while back for my 240z. I really wanted to get my hands on that motor again, but I was kind of put out by the fact that it would be going in a truck. I told him a few times that in order to make that truck competitive on the drag strip, we we're going to spend more cash on putting the truck on a diet than the actual motor/drivetrain. He took it to heart, and a guy at a hot rod shop in the neighboring town offered him a Vega free of charge...I think he was also intrested in seeing the motor go into something a little more promising. So, I've got a 400 - 450 H.P. Vega on the way. I took a look at the car the other day before he picked it up, and it's fairly sound. It's missing the front grill/head lights, but other than that, the only thing it needs body wise is some frame strength and some paint. I'm going to get to work tearing the car apart and sanding this weekend, and see if I can come up with some frame rails somewhere. I also talked my other boss into buying a running '79 280zx for $400 from a guy right down the road from him...so he's going to give me the cash to restore that too. I've got everything I wanted for Christmas, they buy the parts, and I've got to toys to start work on. If any of you guys have done a similar swap with a Vega, or know someone who has, drop me some info/pics if you get a chance. JB

My 5.0's T-5 is shot. Well, not completly, but it's a real pain. I've found some others on the net having the same problems. (Mostly on EBay, selling them.) It pops out of first, but when it actually goes in, it usually stays. It doesn't like to go into second at all...I've gotten it there 3 or 4 times since adding an adjustable clutch cable for the CenterForce clutch. Third gives a little grind and goes in for the most part...4th and 5th are always fine. To GEAR DOWN to third, I have to go down to second while holding the clutch pedal down, then go up to third. Then it gives me the little grind, and gears down. I haven't been able to figure out when it likes first and second gears... anyway, I want to rebuild this thing, so what exactly would I be looking at replacing? A few guys around here say synchros, but I want to hear what some HybridZers think... anyone? Thanks, JB
-
Found out the problem was in the shifter and the clutch. I forgot to mention that the car has very recently (3 - 4 weeks) had a Center Force clutch installed. The guy who had the car before me put the clutch in himself, and the quick fix will be an adjustable clutch cable. (I'm told around $75.) I'll also need a new short throw shifter. At least I don't have to replace a transmission. P.S.> I just got back from picking up the motor and tranny that was in the 240 I sold to Mark (N.C.)...my boss is building a drag truck, so I talked him into using that motor. JB

Ok thanks. I'll try that... JB

Bump... maybe this was a stupid question?
