My sbc 350 seems to have trouble keeping its cool. I installed an electric, which helps a little, and the car is fine driving 55 - 60 around town, but stopped at a red light my car's temp may go up as much as 10 degrees...stop a few times and your over 200 pretty quickly. Can anyone recommend a good solution. I have a brand new $500 radiator, so that won't help. Can anyone recommend a good fan, w/ a shroud preferably. Or, is it possible/economical to install multiple fans? Or is there perhaps some other way to cool this thing down? I've only had the car a few days, and I'm ready to take it cruising without having to worry about overheating. Thanks, JB

I'd give SRT-4's LOW 14's easy. A buddy of mine just got one and he can't even drive a stick...he ran a 14.99 his very first run. He didn't know his shift points, powerband, and had been driving the car for about 1,000 miles. (When I say he can't drive a stick, I mean he shift at 2k half the time, and misses gears driving down the road.) Anyway, they aren't like 'vettes or anything, but they definatly don't suck. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Civic boys switching over to SRTs here soon...they'll have much better cars IMO. Sure, they'll still be ricers, but at least they'll be decent at the track with some mods. JB

I've got some slicks you could borrow... JB

Thanks. I guess I'll just show some of these to Tommy and see what he thinks...he'll be doing the welding and fabrication. JB

Mike, sweet z by the way. Any idea what she's doing in the 1/4 or 1/8? JB

Actually, I paid $2k and traded an '83 280zx that was in good condition. (It was worth a grand or so.) As for the nose, yes, the entire car looks bigger than I expected. I think the flares make it look alot bigger...but you can still tell there's a 240 under there somewhere. The motor is running like a champ. It needs a new battery, and I'm in the process of mounting the electric fan. (About to head to Napa for some bolts.) I've got it hooked to a free toggle switch right now so it won't kill the battery, but I'll likely change that when I get another one. The car will definatly make it to Atlanta, but I'll have to take it easy...the double pumper carb sucks down gas like water after about 3,500 rpm. But just cruising it isn't nearly as bad on gas as I thought it would be. Ok, I'm off to Napa, JB

Just got back from Texas, I picked up a sbc 350 240z. It needs some frame rails for sure, but the roll bar is helping a little. Other than that all it needs is some radiator mounts and an electric fan. I'm sure you guys have seen the car on here. It's the "350z" that was in Austin. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18477&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 See ya, JB

Better take a few extra pairs of underwear to.

Hey, I'm going to see it for a look a the new turbo charged Sea-Doo's...well that and the fact that I actually enjoyed the first movie. Sure it was ricers, sure it was all fake, sure a Jetta isn't going to run 8's...but hey, it's a movie about racing...and it's definatly better than RPM. Anyone seen that? lol, that's the poorest acting I've ever seen, but some EXCELLENT cars. See ya, JB

Hmm...sort of looks like you may have a sabre scar across your arse there after that bit of action man...lol Nice avatar though. Haha, JB

at 3k lbs...that's plenty to be proud of. (Not the 16.7 though...haha.) Next time chuck the weight and give those ricers something to chew on... See ya, JB

It's amazing what a late model zx can do with a new set of tires too... (6) Mine were "new" about a month ago... My favorite thing to do on a rainy day is spin 'em through third at a red light...sort of like riding a jet-ski if you get it right.

So they CAN go underneath the car? That's what I was hoping. The drawings that I was looking at seemed to show the connectors running along the inside of the car, under the seats. Does anyone have a good example of how this is done UNDER the car, instead of inside? Thanks,

Ah ha. The link opened. That's erm, pretty intresting. It looks pretty strone though. I wonder if I use a bit smaller tubing, and run 2 - 3 different strips, possibly 4 - 5 depending on the thickness of the tube... you guys think that would work. That would be a little more comfortable, and a bit more astheticly pleasing once the carpet was one top...
-
Hmmm...all I got from the link was: "Not Authorized" ?Anyone else able to get there? Can you repost the link? Or maybe the pic(s)? Yeah, I don't have a problem jumping over a rollbar...as long as it's there for a reason. Anything that can be covered with a little carpet is preferable. Once I get the car strong enough that I'm positive it will handle anything (or at least most anything, no car is bulletproof) I throw at it, I'm going to go all out on the inside...he...I won't even officially have the car until this weekend, and I'm already months ahead of myself...I see what you guys mean about the "while I'm at it" syndrome. Thanks,

The welding will be done by a friend of a friend (who will also do a majority of the cutting, etc. I'll just watch and lend a hand where I can.) who builds frames for hotrods and does some engine work...he's got a mean little roadster... Anyway, it looks as if the sub frame connectors go underneath the carpet, looks like it'll be a good chance to throw in a carpet kit and have the seats redone...or...better yet, some racing seats. After the frame is good and stiff, all that's left is some interior work and she'll be a mean street machine. Oh, the MSA strut bars...good enough for the job? Thanks,

Ok, I have drawings for the dimnsions of some floor frame rails, and a pretty good idea on how to install engine frame rails. Now my question, with the floor frame rails, the engine frame rails, and a 6pt roll bar (already installed) is that going to make a 240z tough enough to handle 400 hp? (R200) Would the engine frame rails and the roll bar be enough, or are the ffr's a must? AND, could I get the stuff needed at a local performance shop? Do I just ask for some steel tubing cut the way I want it? The dimensions listed for the ffr's are 2"x3", .085" wall steel tubing and the engine frame rails = 2.5"x2.5", .093" Sound good to those who have done this? Thanks

I saved this to my favorites. Everytime I have some track buddies over we get a kick out of it. I want some of that blue coolent, and a gold plated oil cap to add to my..."bling bling?"...factor... better turn my subs around too. BTW, if any of you DO have aftermarket sound, w/ subs in the rear, turn them around towards the rear of the hatch, it sounds a WHOLE lot better IMO. It's much more solid, and helps reduce rattle in the rear. (Still haven't figured out why, seems to me it would be just the opposite. Then again, I didn't have free air speakers, so that may have something to do with it?) Later

A stronger frame...after the fact...

Thanks alot man, that should do it. JB -
Yeah, it's an '83, and yes, that's where I always get them, right off the line. They always say the car looks like it stands up and jumps about 20 feet in front of them before they even start rolling. It's like a free car length or so right off the line. By then, in the 1/8th, that's alot of catching up... the zx won't be mine anymore this weekend...but an sbc 350 240z will...:) Horray! Finally getting a Hybrid Z.
-
Man, that looks like alot of fun! (And time...) I sure hope everything goes smoothly with that project. 250 GTO's are probably the most beautiful cars of all time, IMO. I love them. Good luck with the project...I'm picking up my first Hybrid Z this weekend. (SBC 350) See ya,

Wagz... that thumbnail there sure looks like a 250 GTO man... What's going on here? Is that a Z with some fabulous body kit on it?!? If it is, is it a custom job, or did you buy it somewhere?????? Thanks

P.S.>I don't know exactly how a frame rail is installed, hence the question about dropping the tranny. Do they run from front to back, and then across, or just straight across the bottom of the car. I was also assuming some sways would help too?
