  1. I'll definatly be there Mike. I'm taking a look at the block tonight, or, what can be seen. The girl still has the intake, heads, etc. on there, so I will buy it as soon as she gets that all off. I should have 'er running by the end of next week, but I'm sure everyone here has said that before Look forward to seeing you guys at the SEZS meet! JB
  2. Tim: Yup, it was the blue one you're describing alright. (There are actually a pair of white stripes.) David: Actually, I've located another bottom end that a friend of mine's girlfriend has. It's a 350 bored 30 over, with low miles. I'm going to take a look at it this evening. If I do get this one, I'm using the same top end stuff I had before...Iron Eagle 200cc Heads (glad THESE weren't damaged!) Edelbrock Performer Air Gap Intake Manifold, Holley 750 D. P. Carb. I've also got a second Comp Cam (XE274 model) with lifters that I'm putting in. Hopefully this time it will stay in one piece. I'm going to make sure the tranny is bolted up RIGHT this time, and mount the aluminum radiator he just had wedged into the frame. (Yeah...it wasn't going to last long like that...) A few of you may recall that I was having trouble with overheating a while back (before the motor died)...I figure it was from the sticking valves, and not a product of a bad cooling system. Thank for the help guys, had to vent... JB
  3. I bought my 240z Hybrid not too long ago, from a guy in Austin, TX. The motor was described as sound, and had had ALOT of work done on it...on the top half... I had less than 200 miles on it since I've had it when it overheated one day and shut off... first I wasn't getting fire, so I decided to replace the distributor with a $330 MSD Pro Billet dist...no fix...so off came the carb an intake...the lifters on the back were turning, but nothing from the rear half of the motor. ??? The cam was broken. In 2 places. So I order another cam (keep in mind...this was a COMP CAM!) A fairly good cam (XE274)...the same one as before, along with a new set of lifters. So I'm trying to pull the pieces of cam out, and one luckily falls into the oil pan. As I'm trying to pull the motor, the tranny tries to come with it. Then damn thing wasn't even BOLTED DOWN! At this point I'm wondering who the previous owner had working on his car... so I get the oil pan off, and there I find bits of metal, the missing piece of cam, and a half a piston rod. I get the other half of piston out of the block (#8...in case you're wondering...) and the block has a hole in it... Grrrrrrrr... JB
  4. You might check and see what version of the game you have. If it's the original version, and it hasn't been patched or upgraded, it most likely doesn't recognize that newer controller. Try downloading a patch for the game, the newest version you can find. Here's what I came up with: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=15439 You could definatly try lucasarts.com if that doesn't fix it. If all else fails, open up your PC and install a game port card. (You can pick one up for $5-$15, depending on where you go.) Later, JB

  6. My car is making roughly 400 HP from the crank, but it's got an open R200 diff...I defintaly want to go the lsd route, and since my car already HAS an R200, wouldn't it be easiest to just swap an LSD R200? Which z's can I find the LSD R200 in? Is there anywhere that sells them new? (No Quaife for me, thanks.) Is there another diff that one of you could recommend besides the R200 that would be a simple swap. I definatly want both rear wheels spinning when I goto the track, I'd like to avoid second gear starts. JB
  7. So the best bet is to find an LSD version of the R200? Thanks, JB
  8. jeromio, Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll try to make sure and post in the right forum next time, but if I don't, be sure to flay me alive for it. (I'm sure you will! ) The link provided also says that I should only post my question in one forum, so I'll leave it here, and if Tim sees fit to move it, then I'll gladly check to see if anyone has replied in the "Drive Train" forum. Thanks for the help, Barrett
  9. I know some guys here have tried it, or at least I'm pretty sure they have. I've got an R200 diff with 3.75 gears...the phantom grip is an LSD conversion that supposedly eliminates 1 wheel peel. I'm just wondering if it works as well as the site claims, I'm really intrested in it. (http://www.phantomgrip.com) They have an application for 280z's and 240z's. R200's are all that's listed. Anyone tried it? Like it? I'm going to buy one as long as they don't destroy my rear-end or break after 5,000 miles. JB
  10. That's what just about everyone I've talked to has said. I haven't talked to anyone yet who said they wouldn't get their car out of there as soon as possible. The guy makes his living building race cars, but from what I've recently heard around town...he isn't the most honest guy in the world. JB
  11. Thanks. I'm getting my car out of there tomorrow as soon as I get the chance... I don't trust the guy either...it could've honestly been some freakish accident, but I also think he may be after my cam or...who knows what else. JB
  12. By the way, when the car messed up to begin with...I heard a "pop." I immediatly assumed a slung rod...but I hoped not as I popped the hood...no oil splatters or any holes in the block etc... I was thinking...what in the world is going on??? I guess I see now. JB
  13. Thanks, I printed this out for refrence... I've never heard of this either. Then again, I didn't know the mechanic that did the work...I just purchased the car from a guy in Texas. I'm assuming that nothing was damaged...and it's just going to take some work to get the cam shaft back in and secure. JB
  14. Thinking my distributor was bad (which it was) I decided to replace it with an MSD... my car has an SBC350 in it...the mechanic says not only was the dist. bad, but the camshaft slipped OUT of the motor...??! Ok...so...exactly WHAT causes a camshaft to just decided to come out of the motor? It slid...aparently forward. Has this ever happened to anyone here? What else could have been damaged. I'm taking it out of the shop, and I'm going to deal with this myself...I just want to make sure when I get it back in it doesn't happen again. Please help...I want my car back on the road...(and the strip...) Thanks, JB
  15. Well, instead of spending time to dig inside of my distributor (anymore than I already have...replacing the rotor button and the ignition module) I've decided to forget it, pull it out, and have ordered an MSD distributor for my H240. It arrived to day, and if all goes as planned she'll be ready to hit the track this Sunday. JB
  16. Oh......figured it out... JB
  17. That's neat...but how do you race? JB
  18. Ha. $2,550 was the final bid...the seller should take that and run... 'course, I doubt he'd be running very far before he got into some serious trouble... JB
  19. Heeeeeeey... lower that sucker back down...put on some street tires...a hella load of bodywork... and you have yourself and AWD Z... JB Oh...and I'd also suggest a little more than 1.6 liters...
  20. Oh ok, I see what you're saying. So I could test the wire with a light, but how would I check to see if the coil was bad? Will there be a black residue where it malfunction? Or should I look for something else? The "button" is what throws the spark right? JB
  21. I'm pretty sure if there is an ignition module in the distributor there isn't a coil...right??? Arg...looks like this one is going to Custom Performance... JB
  22. Well, now I have no spark from the distributor to the plugs...!!!WHAAA! I replaced the ignition module in the distributor to no avail...and I'm about to check to make sure the distrib. is getting power, if it is, does that just mean it's time to replace the distributor, or should I check anything else before I spend $125? Thanks, JB
  23. Yes, in fact...the 240z in Tokyo Street 0 goes 263 mph and runs quarter mile times in the 7's...I think it was 7's...(after complete modification and using the 7th...or were there 8(?) engine.)...it's been a few months...my friend had it, and all my friends that played it with us swore up and down the last car would be the charger that you pass every now and again on the streets...but never get to race... I said (at this time I had my 280zx, not my 240) it would most definatly be a Z car. I was thinking 300zxTT though...boy...the looks on their faces after they realized that that old Z was spanking their Skylines... JB
  24. That thing looked dangerous... JB
