Haha. Well...one thing leads to another. In the process of adjusting my shift linkage, the welds that held the slave cylinder to the bell housing broke...both of them...at the same time. It was cast iron I believe...so that explains that bit... now my question is...have any of you ever mounted one to the frame before? I'm thinking I'm going to drill bolt holes in the frame rails, slid the bolts through, and mount it to that, as it's a little messy down on the bell housing where the old welds were. If anyone has a better suggestion please let me know. I'm going to tackle this one tomorrow afternoon. JB

Haha. You got it Zriffic. I'll see ya'll in March. JB

Thanks for the info Mike. I REALLY wanted to make it last weekend...but my sister's little girl got christened (spelling?) and I had the dates mixed up at the time. WIth all the folks in the house, I decided I'd just have to wait until next time. I don't car if I have to push my car to Reynolds...I'll be at the next one. (By the way, the car will be back on the road this afternoon, all that's left is adjusting the shift linkage.) JB

Cranked it up guys. Turned out the timing was advanced 180 degrees... Rice Killer Racing is back in business. Thanks alot Tim, and the others of you that lent your support. I've got to adjust the shift linkage this afternoon, and then I'm going for a little cruise. P.S. >>> Anyone up for another SEZ meet sometime soon? lol Seriously, how often do they have this event? JB

I'll get back with you guys about the car this evening after I check the cam timing and the valve train out. I'm thinking that the timing may have been advanced 180 degrees...hopefully I can get it running. If not, I'll get back with everyone that e-mailed me. Thanks, JB

Thanks Tim. I'll try it. I guess I probably did get carried away, but if it turns out that the block is shot, I'll definatly have to sell the car I'm afraid. I've already taken off the intake/carb, the valve covers, roller rockers, and unbolted the headers...I guess I just made some more work for tomorrow... ahhhhh... I know what I'm doing this weekend...and I don't think it's going to involve a car... I've still got a day to work before the weekend though...so...maybe I'll find out the block is OK...man I hope so... JB

Nothing. Zilch. Zero... compression check results in ZERO compression. The block I bought from a guy here in town who said "it's a good motor, and it was running when I took it out..." obviously needed a quick $400... so for all that work, some blood, and too many trips to the parts store I have absolutly nothing to show for it except for some black stuff under my finger nails and an empty wallet. Anyone want to purchase: Rolling 1972 240z (with wide body kit, gnose and whale tail) Dart Iron Eagle 200cc Heads Holley 750 Double Pumper Carb Edlebrock Air Gap Intake Manifold Northern aluminum radiator Comp Cam (model XE274) with lifters (never actually cranked) My starter, water pump, pulleys, belt, etc... Saginaw 4 speed manual tranny R200 w/ 3.75 gears ...... Basically everything you need to build a 350 equipped 240z minus the block... I purchased the car for $2000 AND my 280zx. The 240 I'm selling and the 280 can both be viewed at http://www.angelfire.com/pro/jbszs and the 240 can also be viewed at http://www.angelfire.com/pro/rkr/240.html I'm looking to get $1,500 for this, as I still have to pay off the loan, which has about $1,400 left on it. I know I should've posted this in the Buy/Sale/Trade forum, but I did start out ranting, and I'm not really in the mood to post twice. I don't think I'll go any lower than $1,500 I can't afford to...I need a vehicle, and I've got to pay off a loan AND repay some loans for parts for this thing... I'm out of a perfectly good 280zx, $400, and have lots of people to repay. The car is located in Americus, GA...drop me a line @ phstightend@hotmail.com or rkracer240@yahoo.com I'm pissed, I'm going to bed, JB

I posted a similar post a few months back, and got quite a few replies: I know there are some guys here from GA, and I'm wondering how often you guys make it to Reynolds to the strip. I sure would like to meet some fellow HybridZ'ers, swap info, hang out, etc. I asked to fellow at Reynolds about putting my 240 in the "Imports Plaque" race...he was ok with it until I told him about the 350...if I'd only known then that my first 350 was Canadian. I would have had a pretty good basis for appeal. Anyway, if you ARE from GA, and DO make it to Reynolds often, drop me a line, or e-mail me at rkracer240@yahoo.com or phstightend@hotmail.com I've seen lots of guys out there in 300's...but no early model Zs unfortunatly. Let me know! JB

Just a few more hours... a few months after throwing a rod, busting a hole in my block, and ripping the cam in half in 2 places...(no I didn't install the first motor) my 240 is about to be back on the road. All that's left is bolting up the headers, mounting the tranny, reconnecting the driveshaft, putting in the spark plugs/wires and crankin' her up. I should be done this afternoon. I'll take some pics as I drive her out of the garage into daylight for the first time in 8 weeks...(that's if all goes well...cross your fingers) 8) JB

SO THAT'S why the previous owner of my car had that fan down there...I thought it was some funky heater setup he'd rigged...as it blows into the car. I'm about to go make sure, but it's got to be to pull the air from the engine bay...and I blew the toggle switch it was hooked to the second day I had it when I hooked an electric fan up to it also. Hehe, looks like with a bigger toggle switch I'll have a pretty good cooling setup. Thanks for that info! JB

Wait a minute... what EXACTLY was the point of this "bill"????? Was it ACTUALLY intended for illegal aliens? I don't see how anyone would sign that...what was its real purpose? I've been reading about this in a few other Z forums, but I didn't think it would actually pass...and still haven't grasped the reason behind even bringing it up. Was it really created so some guy could swim a river and a get a license? JB

From the looks of it...the kit is new and runs in the $1,600 range. I think I'd just get another Z to play with. JB

So close to being back on the road...

Doug, I sent you the pictures via e-mail. One is a little blurry, but it's clear enough to see what it is. I'll get some more with the hood actually ON the car as soon as I find a flywheel that fits this blankity blank block. (Actually, I love it, but I keep making trips to the parts store unexpectedly...fuel pump block offs, gaskets, paint...etc. etc...but soon, very soon... ) JB -
Tim, thanks...I'm looking for a large journal flywheel (168 tooth) right now. The one on the old block was a small journal. Let me know if you find one. Jeremy, the engine in the 442 is new, but it's actually a 350. Lots of performance parts. The Typhoon is running the original 4.3...but it's soon to be a stroker. Later, JB

Hehe. I want one that says "Bumper Sticker" JB

I'll e-mail you some pics Doug. The hood is really light, and it's simply held into a piece of "L" shaped steel beam that runs the width of the front of the car. It's bolted in two places, and the hood bolts to that on each end. Pictures will be an easier explination. I'll try to get some this evening. JB -
Hey guys, just wanted to say that I picked up another 350 block. It's 30 over and in excellent shape. I've cleaned it up good, and gotten the head studs over from the old block into the new one, and gotten the heads, and the new cam in. I've got to put the roller rockers, lifters, and push rods back in, then I just need to get to Wally World to pick up some RTV so I can get the intake and the carb back on and then I'll be ready to bolt 'er back up. I went with the same cam that was in the old motor, it's a Comp XE274. I'm also putting on a set of chrome valve covers as the ones that were on there were black, and pretty ugly IMO. Anyway, I'll definatly be ready for the SEZs meet, and I'll have little more umph from the 355 hopefully. Oh, and I don't know if any of you recall my posts about having trouble with overheating problems, but I figured out that it had nothing to do with my cooling system. Number 5...or...maybe it was 6, was sticking, and there was so much carbon buildup in there that it looked like someone had had a party in there and started a bonfire! So, if all goes as planned, I'll be back on the road in a few days, and I'll actually be able to drive the car more than 20 or so miles before I have to park 'er and let it cool. Can't wait 'till the meet! 8) JB http://www.angelfire.com/pro/rkr (Still working on alot of the pics...)

Right now, yes. This evening, I'm linking to each person's car. So there will we 6 - 7 pages. The banners and pop ups are terrible I know. I think I can get them off, I'll do that this evening if I get a chance. If not...I'll get them off soon. Later, JB

Hey guys, just wanted you all to know that some friends and I have just started a drag racing club. RKR...aka Rice Killer Racing. Check out: http://www.angelfire.com/pro/rkr I just started the page. Pictures of the cars are coming soon. I'm pretty sure I got the year right on the Cutlass but I'm not positive. I should have pictures of all the cars up on the site by this evening. Later, JB

New Hybrid had a POS motor in it...

Tim, I'm still paying on the loan for the car...and the $150 per month insurence isn't helping. I'm still in high school until January, and between dating girls and buying car parts...plus paying that loan and paying the insurence...there just isn't enough cash for a crate motor. (But boy, I sure wish there was!) Thanks for the info though, hopefully someone rambling through the forums with a tad bit bigger wallet than myself will find it useful. If it wasn't for a CD that I'd forgotten about that acrued a good bit of intrest, my car would be sitting for a while! Glad I've got a terrible memory! JB
