  1. The shape of the backside of the rim is what counts. I have a friend with a set of the 4x4 4runner calipers with the 300zxt rotors. He has 14x7" mesh style enki's and the back side of the rim touched the the oustide face of the caliper. he needed a 1/4" spacer for his rims to clear the calipers. I have a set of Epsilon 16x7's and they also did not fit back on. I too needed a 1/4" spacer to clear the face of the caliper. The back side of my rims are basically flat..that is the problem.. If they were convex on the inside of the rim..then I'd have been fine.. The diameter of the rim is irrelevent.. unless you have 13" rims of course. hehe
  2. ZR8ED here. It was one heck of a blast finally meeting with you guys. I just got home last night. I stayed a few more days and had waaayyy toooo much fun down on the coast. I was very impressed with how friendly people were in CA. Hanging out at the Ramada with dozens of fellow z'rs was also on the brink of overkill. It was like a huge family.. I haven't talked about Z's so much with so many people.. and had so much to drink and shot so much pool in a long time. hehe That was the real highlight of arriving a couple of days in advance of the show even though I didn't bring my Z. I met so many new people I can't even remember all of them..(a few too many drinks may not have helped in the bar though) I would like to go next year.. My car is ready..now if I can just get enough time off..and maybe a co-pilot, I can make it. I owe many of you some pics of the finished product, as well as pics of some of the older mods done to the car. Finally my tires arrived. Khumo Victoracer 700's 265/45/16's They look wicked. I hope to install them before the weekend and get the car out for some decent pics of the flares, wing, etc.. I can't post them, but I'm sure someone here, might be able help me out. Once again it was great meeting you guys.. I may have missed the pre-meet but at least I made the show and the post meet.

    Gotta vent

Thats pretty annoying. But I really hate it when I see huge wings on 4 door stocko civics (their only mod..not even a coffee can exhaust), or cars driving around with unpainted "ninja" front ends on very stock looking cars ie still running hubcaps... geeez..... Nothing wrong with putting on a body kit...but hey.. it ain't done till its painted bud.
  4. Well the car is done.. paint is done.. interior is done.. suspension is done, engine is done.. one snafu.. The tires I want to order are back ordered at tirerack. I checked my local speed shops.. got a "they are exclusive to race dealers" response. Help me find these tires.. someone must have them in stock somewhere.. They are.. Khumo Victoracer 700's Size 265/45/16 Help me fill my new flares. Thanks, Scott.
  5. BTW give me a 63-64 lincoln Continental hardtop with the suicide doors...Black on black..a bit lower..bigger tires.... Oh yea...now that is my dream tow car...
  6. Well I have a mid 80's lincoln with the 5.0 I had heard it had like 140hp.. less compression, lots of torque.. it sure is slow.. and no its not all that heavy...4600lbs on the scale.. with me in it..full of gas. (the car..not me..) I tow my Z with it.. seems to accelerate the same as when its towing my z.. 200,000 + miles on it.. and it still passes emissions no probs at all....with barely routine basic maint...quite amazing really..
  7. I have repeatedly run 13psi with no IC with my VG engine.. 94 octane and 1 bottle of 104 octane booster. in cooler night weather.. I have spiked as high as 15 for a few seconds too.. no harm... knock sensor was probably retarding the timeing a lot.. but O well.. it survived is my only point. Currently set at 13 with I/C 94 octane fuel..
  8. I've had excellent results with my Yokohama AVS. I've run them on the front of my car for years. They were wicked on the track as well. I couldn't find the AVS anymore.. they have some variations..but not what I wanted. I haven't seen Falcons available around here.. only in magazines.... I picked up a pair of BFG G force to replace my Yokohamas, on Thurs. The Back tires have been a HUGE PITA!! I used to run a BFG Comp TA.They worked very well, but frankly are too small for my new flares. I'm having a terrible time with sizing. I run a 245/45/16 on the back and I need to go wider. So far Khumo Victo Racer 700's have a 265/45/16.. and Hoosier make a 275/45/16.. but other than that..I'm pretty much out of luck.. BTW Both tires are avail at Race shops only... so you can guess how they might survive on the street. I've been looking for months now with no luck. Not sure what to do yet..
  9. It sure doesn't feel like spring around here, but spring fever is surely in the air. The sports cars and hot rods are coming out more and more now. On my way into the city last night, I got caught in the middle of some kind of Porsche club returning from an event somewhere. A handful of 911's, 944's, and Boxsters. They were "catting" around, and I being my usual self..joined in! Nothing crazy on my part, some of those guys sure knew where the gas pedal was in those cars. I hung in there with a 911, and past a couple of 944's. It was cool to see a Porsche beside me, then be..just gone.. Some surely had to be modified. Only got one thumbs up... not bad considering the Porsche guys keep to themselves. Our club rented a track one year, that had 2 tracks on the same grounds. The Porsche club was at the other track. They really did not like us being there (we had to share the same catering facilities) So I figure one thumbs up isn't so bad. Its looking to be an awsome year..
  10. I go to a club meeting this week.. Several Z guys there. One guy I haven't seen in awhile. I tell him what I've been up to, and he comments "ahh man, you shouldn't have put in a V6 turbo in your Z. I have a spare Skyline TT motor for sale with less than 10k on it." DOH! it always happens to me.. there is always another good deal around the corner.. I need another Z car to drop this into..hehehe Next I'll start finding lsd diffs in plentitude now!! Geez
  11. Better than air extraction, is keeping the air out of the engine bay.. I put in a belly pan from the front of the airdam to the crossmember.. reduces air flow/turbulance in the engine bay...
  12. Yup Thats me ZR8ED OZC member #002 I see your from Toronto too. you a member?
  13. Thanks guys for the help. Diff went in today. But not the way I planned it. I was going to swap covers to fit into my 280Z. My mechanic/z car builder had different plans. He felt it was not a good idea to reduce the cooling capacity of the lsd. Sooo we left the finned cover on, and redesigned the control arm mounting bracket...that is very much in the way of the finned cover. Well its in, looks great, is stonger than stock, and most importantly.. it is an lsd baby! ya! Now all I need is for this snow to melt, so I can go and give it a try!
  14. Not to confuse you, but with my VG30ET swap, I used 2.5" I/C piping. As far as what you should run?.. I'm not in a position to offer solid advice. I used the 2.5" because it fit with my I/C inlet/outlets, and also with my larger throttlebody I have on the intake.
  15. Hey all I'm preparing to install a recently acquired LSD from an 88 300zxt. Anyways, I have to swap rear covers, and I will therefore change the diff oil at the same time. The question is has anyone tried redline oil in an R200 LSD. I currently have redline in my R200 open diff and am satisfied with it, I'm just not sure how it will work with the clutches etc in the diff. Should I use redline? or just put in stock stuff? Opinions? Thanks.
  16. Well It was bound to happen. We must all pay the piper sooner or later.. It was later for me I guess. I guess playing cat and mouse with that Ferrari (apparently it is called a 360 Modena) caused some excessive wear in my newly installed water pump. Not even 1 month old.. but it was a rebuild..it totally let go..big time.. The fact the fan stayed on was the best part. My mechanic found pieces of ball bearings lying on my strut towers. I replaced the water pump with a new unit, not a rebuild this time. The pump was all torn up inside. The bearings wore right through the housing and the shaft tore up the guts of housing as well. And yet it still barely left me walking. It happened on the highway, and I managed to get off right at the exit where my mechanics shop is. I let it cool off. topped it up with water, and drove it the last 2km to the shop by turning off the ign and coasting as far as I could. (most of the way was downhill luckily.) I had a friend pick me and take me home. I did get the new pump under warranty tho. I only had to pay for labour to reinstall it. So it did leave me walking I guess. but it was a near perfect place to break down. (well it was) good thing I have a sense of humour or else I'd be pretty PO'd O well The car is fine now.
  17. Hmm the lines look like oil cooler lines...Maybe he didn't use the oil cooler in the swap..just capped off the lines?? As far as price goes? dunno around here.. maybe a few $K its pretty hard to sell a modified Z around where I live.. I'd be lucky to get 7K for mine!??!!! geez...
  18. hmm all this talk of rubber mounts...I went solid for my diff.. My tranny and motor mounts are still rubber..(modified tho..) I broke 2 mounts with my race prepped l28 The diff is a bit noisier in the cabin..but it sure worked.. no more breaking..
  19. Congrats on finishing. I have been meaning to do that mod for a long time.. i keep putting it off and putting it off.. The filler is my stumbling block..I still want a generally stock fuel filler location..but I want a cap like a dodge viper..too much effort for me right now. I don't want to get too much on plate..hehehehe like I don't have too much already lol
  20. My favorite has to be from the film Apocolypse Now. I love the smell of napalm in the morning speech. I even put the speech on one of my burnt CD's filled with Vietnam era music. hehe
  21. Umm not to sound like a know it all.. but drifting does not require use of a handbrake. Handbrakes are for slowing down? why would you want to do that? hehe I rarely try drifting on the streets..I save that for playing at the track.. which is really cool when you get the feel of it.. 4 wheel drifts coming out of turns.. that is how your supposed to corner! What a rush of excitement to control the car and balance it at the limit of adhesion. BTW I highly recommend it! That is probably the best part of being in a car club..Buying power to rent local race tracks for your own private amusement... the only downfall is..rollercoaster theme parks are severely boring after getting to do this kind of stuff.. I stopped going on rollercoasters, and I don't care if I ever get on one again.. No I'm not kidding.
  22. Hehehe not that kind! you all got dirty minds. Coming home from a friends place.. it must be getting close to spring or something..Guys bringing out their toys more often now.. Anyways. I'm coming home on a secondary highway.. which happens to go 5 lanes wide each way as it passes through a city. I spot a very new looking Mustang GT all decked out with mags etc.. 2000+ I'm fairly certain. I start to try and catch him..but I'm having troubles.. I finally catch him at a light.. He is smack on the ass of a Ram Air Firebird at the light( he spotted the firebird first, and was catching him, and I was catching the mustang..hehe) ...I hear motors reving, and I say.. "Oh baby its ON!!" We never got one good try off any of the lights we hit, but we cat and moused it pretty good. I Barely hung with the firebird, and i could match or beat the mustang. It was pretty hard to tell.. Neither could leave me out of the scrap that is for certain! hehe We did this for a few miles.. Had a blast! I wonder if this is any kind of indication of what summer is going to be like! Damn I can't wait for ZR8ED 1 to be out of the paint shop. I'm missing out on all kinds of fun.
  23. Well I might as well chime in here.. I did the roll cage thing for two reasons.. safety..(my car is far more capable for speed and handling than stock) and two.. I had the resources available to me at the time. I have a 12 point roll cage without sidebars, with another 14 points of bracing... The bracing is mostly adjustable with heim joints, and is all triagulated. I can't really count that as "roll cage", but it does give the car significant chassis stiffening as well as extra crash worthiness. It was all built by a pro with many years experience with z race cars. I push my car to its limits on a track, as well as close to 300rwhp launches at the odd stoplight.. NO twisting....I can even jack 3 wheels off the ground, and still open and close my doors..not bad for a 24yr old car.. I left my side bars off in my situation..I still have them so one day I can put them on, but I felt it was just too much for a street car...The ladies so far, don't mind the 4 point harness I make them wear..(no I don't force them to wear the antisubmarine belt..hehehe) but I'm pretty sure they would not like climbing over a metal bar in a dress.. but hey that is my personal opinion. The bracing up front might interest you though. I have bracing from the firewall to the strut towers, then a giant X going from the strut towers to the opposite rad support. I also have a top and bottom rad support brace.. the top is joined into the X on top.. the lower is tied to the fram rails. http://zacksz.homestead.com/projectboost.html This a site with some pics of my engine bay that show the x bracing etc..not all my pics are up..there are a couple..more will follow in coming weeks.. I have other pics of my roll cage, and assosiated bracing as well If you need it.

    CV swap..

I have all the parts I need..(and someone that does the flange/adapters) the last piece of the puzzle is the 280z flanges. Sure I have a set..on the car.. But I don't want to take the car out of service for that job.. Sooo are there any differences in 240, 260, 280 halfshaft flanges?.. that is the side at the wheel..not at the diff.. I've got several rear suspensions laying around that I can take them from..just not sure which one came from what car... ZR8ED
  25. Thanks fellas for the help. I did some searching, and while I looked at the net, my mechanic searched locally.... well seems he made a good find. A local performance shop chain called 'Performance Improvements" has a supply of I/c piping. He managed to get me some piping 2.5" 1- 180 degree, and 5 ft of straight pipe made from stainless steel, for about 90$ Cdn He haw.. Aluminum would be lighter, but SS looks sooooo slick...my favorite metal hehehehe I love it when a plan comes together.. won't be long now...
