Just when you think you've seen it all! Maybe we should create our own team to compete.. It is so rediculous, I'm seriously considering trying this sport..on an ameature level..hehe Bwahahaha I needed a winter hobby... http://eib2.phpwebhosting.com/index.php

Moving accessories around is not easy or cheap! I had to fab a custom bracket for my alternator. It did not clear my frame rails. Not easy to do, AND keep it perfectly lined up for a belt to go around on at 7000rpm.. We had to raise the alt above the frame rails. Obviously this is on my VG30ET motor.. And steering..ya don't even have to get me going on what it took to get my steering to go around my turbo!

All this talk of Kludge fix diff mounts has me thinking. I have a solid stainless steel diff mount. It works very well, but transmitts too much gear whine into the car. Now that all the interior is back in the car is very quiet, and all I hear now is the whine of the diff.. even louder than my MSD fuel pump. Anyone have a solution for shutting this thing up with out going back to stock...I'm afraid of breaking a stock one..since I already broke my solid mount once! I have thought about wedging a piece of urethane between the mount and the crossmember to help dampen the noise...or maybe nylon...(heat and oil resistant and crush resistant, and I can get solid chunks that I can cut to size) Any ideas guys? I have all winter to figure this out..hehe Thanks.

Things not to do to an Eclipse - VIEW AT OWN RISK
ZR8ED replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
The little wings are TOO much..the hood scoop is too extreme also... but.. other than that, it truely has that "gee whiz" factor going for it... I've seen sooooo much worse.. -
I also have a 260 bumper on my 280. Though I took it a step further, and cut out an inch or two from the middle, and rewelded it to get a very tight close to the body fit. No bumper on the back...it was going to be too much work...I prefer the smoothed rear look anyways.

why don't you just weld it? Now I'm not sure what an R180 mount lookslike...?? but I welded up a broken R200 mount. it became a solid mount though... I just welded on pieces of plate steel, to the two parts...(would normally be held together by the rubber)... I cut the steel pieces to exact fit...if I ground off the excess weld (I'm an amatuer welder) It would look like it was supposed to be a solid mount...

Which rollbar should I use?
ZR8ED replied to 80LS1T's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Any of the Z rollbars that bolts to the front of the wheel wells, and usually back to the strut towers, I have been calling.."DEATHBARS" I'd be more concerned about getting hurt by the bar in an accident..False sense of security. If your going to race at all..and with 400+ hp that will put you in a "need a cage" class at the dragstrip...Don't skimp on safety. -
Sorry guys I just can't resist. Someone asked if I was actually serious that I thought I could hang with a viper... This should help I figure..

Kilometers are great! Makes you feel real fast. My 280 reads in KPH....watching how fast it hits 200 is cool... though my speedo doesn't quite move as fast as that bikes...

sorry guys for the above errors..

Zcardriver.. Those flares are huge... look similar to mine. Mine are custom though... I do have the moulds and have thought about making some oneday... but so far i kinda like the "one of kind" feel.. I to saw that 240 at the msa show.. clean car..I was not impressed with the cage in it...might be drag legal, but I would not want to roll it on the back straight at Mosport. Cool looking car none the less. Here is a pic of my flares... actually it is a complete 1/4 panel that goes around the side window almost to the top of the hatch, and around to the tailights. The air slots I did myself after the panels were constructed. <umg src="http://ontariozcar.com/rides/cars/staras/st2.jpg">

Hehe Six Sigma blackbelt eh? I'll be starting that in the new year. (not the blackbelt part) I too understand and have found myself in a similar boat. 32, recently single with most of my friends drifting away with wives and kids. Tough I say...I looked towards my Z and my Z club to help with some reasons to go on and start over... I think it worked. Still alone, but no longer worried about it. Finally finished the Z 8 years ahead of schedule. I finally made it into a position at work where I'm very happy going to work.. That made a huge difference in my attitude. I hated my job before, and I'm sure it showed through in my moods. The best piece of advice I received was from my realestate agent (cute older blonde) (when selling my house in the divorce) was "don't worry about LOOKING for someone.. the harder you look the less you see..(sorta can't see the forrest through the trees) When I least expect it someone will comealong" Good advice.. and as said above.. desperation shows...I had a woman tell me that once...(a friend of a friend).. good wake up call. BTW I travel now and go to lots of Z events.. great fun! and I meet other cool Z people. Ok I'm running on here... Good luck man. Good community here at hybridz eh? I love this site! I'd kick back and enjoy some beers and talk z's with any of you guys!

I'm trying to sell the car as a whole, but am seriously considering parting it out. LSD and turbo engine, new tires, spare T/3 new tokico shocks, reasonable body.. chassis/frame is excellent. New boost guage, new speaker system etc. etc. etc.. I'd do ok parting it out.. I need $2K Cdn out of it.. and yes it will still start and run...

Thanks guys for the responses. I asked many friends and family what they thought as well. I needed some perspective because of the suddeness of the situation, the absolute chaos this past week finishing my 280 project, short handed at work for a week, etc... and the need for a non emotional response to my car breaking down. I went out a bought a silver 2003 Altima 3.5 with all the bells and whistles. It also happens to be the first new car I have ever bought for myself (exwifes new cars not withstanding) hehehe Thanks again. I'll be receiving the car later this week. I think the "ZR8ED 2" plate will look just fine on the car.

Since the car will not be formally a race car.. you can do what I did to mine. Mine is not a racecar either, so technically my cage would not be legal either.. but when you cut a pipe and want to widen it (like I did to get such a tight fit to the roof.) Insert a smaller diameter pipe inside the pipe where you cut it... say a few inches and leave a few inches sticking out. Weld it all around the seam. ( from small diameter pipe to lip of larger pipe) then simply slip the other side of your hoop/pipe/bar over the smaller pipe that is sticking out, and weld it up. We left a gap between the two larger diameter pipes (1/8") and left that gap to weld the two larger pipes to the smaller diameter pipe that is now inside the two halves... makes for a WAY stronger seam. You guys follow that? hard to type in words...

I had a beautiful summer blasting around in my VG turbo 280Z. I also spent a lot of time on the side of the road/highway putting my i/c hoses back on the car!! VERY embarrasing if trying to show off. hehe Anyways, the silicone hoses at the local speed shop are very expensive, and are preset in length... not a good plan for a custom hybrid install. I found a source for silcone hoses by the foot! at a whopping $23.00 per foot. Just drop into your local Peterbilt, Cummins, Cat etc. Diesel repair shop, and ask for silicone rad hoses. yup rad hoses.. I guess they use water to water i/c's highpressure rads, and I/C's ???? now I never asked what diameters they use, but they do carry 2.5" which is what I am using for my i/c piping. Cut to size and wala, a local source for hose that is as long as you need it, and cheaper than the performance shop stuff. No more hoses popping off!! even at 18psi! (I was not originally using silcone hose..I got my hoses from a local hose mfg and found some of there hose that would fit...O well.. trial and error. Check out your local diesel engine repair shop and have a look.

Hey guys. My Daily driver just had a bit of a melt down, and I'm thinking of a new car. I rely on this car heavily, and it has let me down twice this year. My 88 300zxt blew a head gasket, and possibly hydro'd a piston. Motor has 200,000kms on it, the air con compressor packed it in, and it could use some paint. I'm trying to decide to fix it, or start fresh. I only paid 3K for it almost 3yrs ago. I've wanted a new car for a year or so now, and I really like the new Altima. I test drove one tonight, and I really liked it, and I can get a not a bad deal on a 2002 model from a good friend at Nissan. I know everyone's situation is different, but what do you guys think? I already have 1 nice sports car (my 78 280).. and I like the idea of having a car that will start every time, need few repairs, and that I trust for a long trip. This car is a daily driver (300zxt) and it sees Canadian winters. Should I invest a few more $k into my daily driver, or get something more modern and reliable. A 300zxt is only worth a few $K anyways.. so I will not get any money back out of it... I do like the car, but it is definately not in mint shape. And if I do get and Altima, do you think my "ZR8ED 2" licence plate would look good on it? Any and all comments are appreciated, as well as comments on the Altima. I'm not sure what to do yet.... Thanks.

Same suspension, tires, air dam, a Califonia wing, and NO belly pan. Very stable..I felt confident, considering the road is not all that straight, and has hills and valleys to it. Car is even more stable and the handling is beyond my expectations with the midship configuration. Race car like.. without much of the racecar harshness.

The Z Master up here in Canada does wicked head jobs. built several full tilt Championship winning Z car motors. He is a member of Ontario Z Car. Built me a killer 300hp (crank) 2.9L that ran on pump gas. and 38 degrees advance. Lots of experience. I trust him fully... he also performed my VG30ET swap in my 280Z. 905 655 5642 name is Dieter. Located east of Toronto.. Drop me an email if you want more info.

Well I might as well chime in here as well.. it is fun after all! I've posted this a few times so pardon me if you've read this before.. I had mine up to 148mph@7400rpm in 5th using a math calculation involving rpm, tire dia, diff and tranny gears and probably something else i forgot. I was racing a Ferrari 308, and not to toot my horn too loud.. I KICKED HIS ASS 7 TIMES IN A ROW! hehehe not too loud eh? Draging from 80-100mph rolling starts... even once he got the jump on me, I went to 5th first then him.. it was all over..I started to pull and pass him pretty handily. Out gunned by a Datsun.. probably sent it back to Italy for mods. hehehehe Guy was cool.. gave me HUGE thumbs up! BTW it was a 4.11 diff in my car! Ran out of RPM. It still wanted to climb, but was taking way too long to wait and see. I hope I never have a race like that again....Too fast...
