  1. Good job with the coilovers. Haha, the whale tail should be interesting. Bet this winter is killing you. I bought my Z last winter and couldn't drive it for a few months. It was horrable.
  2. Has any of it started to fash rust on you. I did this to a motorcycle frame a few years ago and neglected to prep the surface after the blast, was covered it rust a week later. Haha i made the same mistake with the sand. It was everywhere.
  3. I like Seattlejester's format. I think it would also be nice to have a "extra comments/notes" section and "rub: yes/no".
  4. An example of a non-spreadsheet database on Nicoclub: http://forums.nicoclub.com/fitment-database-post-your-wheel-setup-no-pics-with-specs-deleted-t265282.html It's kind of old but you get the idea.
  5. Even if the definition of fitment varies, a dedicated/somewhat uniform fitment guide could still be useful for many. I've spent days searching the internet looking at different wheel, suspension, bodywork setups. It would be nice to see a lot of different setups in one place. I don't think it could or should be a substitute for measuring your own car. Seattlejester makes an interesting point about the "definition of fitment". This is exactly why i personally would be interested in seeing the diversity of ideas out there. However, I don't think a guide of any sort would fulfill the OP's quest for "clear" answers on "ideal" fitment, but data base of sorts would be pretty cool. Saying all that.... I personally wouldn't have any interesting info to add or know how to setup such a guide.
  6. Found this a while ago: http://www.rimtuck.com/search/thumbnails&make=Datsun&sort=1 Far from definitive though.
  7. Look at it this way it probably needed to be replaced anyways. Better it break now than on the road (NPI). Had this happen on my first rust bucket Z. I ended up replacing most of the brake system. It was worth it.
  8. I haven't joined the Great lakes Z club. I probably should though. I looks like a cool group of people. I'd definatly be down to meet up at some point. Also feel free to PM me if you need a hand working on the Z. I also have a couple of extra sevice manuals and the SU carb tunning book. What coil over setup did you decide to go with?
  9. I'm near Southfield Farmington Hills area. Are you going to do the welding yourself or do you plan on having someone do it for you? I'll most likely be installing coilovers in the next few week and i don't have a decent welder (or much skill with one for that matter, haha).
  10. Nice to see another Z in the area. Do you plan on sectioning the struts?
  11. This is going from 280 to 240 tail lights. You would kind of be going in reverse but it might help you see some potential hang-ups.
  12. They carry said brand of camber plates for the 280zx: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MK1-PillowBall-Bearing-Strut-Upper-Mount-For-Coilover-Kit-Mounts-Plates-280ZX-/141256549803?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A280ZX&hash=item20e38be5ab&vxp=mtr
  13. Am i correct in assuming this "set" is for 2 plates and not 4?
  14. @ makaofox I like the paint. Kinda reminds me of a old fighter plane.
  15. Nice color choice. Kudos to you for sticking with it!
  16. Hope its not a repost <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ouhdGnH1QmA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  17. I would just do the work and put new ones in. They are not that pricey, and you'll know that everything is fresh. I think it would be more hassle to pull the ZX lines and re-install them in the Z than it would be to make fresh ones. On another note. If your car hasn't been driven in a long time. Get the radiator boiled and pressure tested asap. It's good insurance for about $100. If This is your first car you have to just build some confidence, dive in, and try things out. If your learning how to work on cars by yourself it's going to get expensive. Your going to fix things, brake them and fix them again, till you get it right. But in the end, you'll be better off for it. Good luck!
  18. I have to admit i almost did the same. I kept looking for your website after reading about all these parts you used to make. It took me awhile to find the post where you said you are no longer selling them. Take it as a sort of complement...i guess.
  19. You can get them at the auto parts store as well. Get a brake line bender tool and you should be good to go.
  20. Master Cylinder: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/OBH0/NMC1658/01292.oap?year=1977&make=Nissan&model=280Z&vi=1209248&ck=Search_01292_1209248_3320&pt=01292&ppt=C0066 You should be able to rebuild your whole brake and clutch hydraulic system at your local parts store.
