  1. Hey guys, I wanted to see if anyone has had any issues when bringing a smog exempt car back to normal op status after being non-operational for any amount of time, in the good ol' state of California. I plan on having my 72 back on the road in the next year, after 7 years of PNO registration... am I going to get flack from the DMV? Or will I just be able to send in the registration and go about my day?
  2. Haha, thanks guppies. To update the post, I have one lined up from zedsn!
  3. I'm in search of a headlight bucket for my '72. Looking for something that is structurally sound with no dents, paint condition or color is not a factor. I have paypal.
  4. Word. I know what you mean. Good luck in the search!
  5. Very nice! Is the color matched to original, or is that a new color? I'm going to be doing orange on mine, but I'm thinking of changing it some from the original orange.
  6. Bringing the post back to life... any chance of finding the original article?
  7. I have a set in 14", I know they're not 16's like you said, but they are a set... They are in good condition, black. One or two of them have a bit of the paint coming off, but none of them have any damage at all. Oh, and I'm in the Sacramento Area.
  8. That is very, very nice. I kind of want to eat off of it. What do you have coating the body? Is it undercoating with color-matched paint?
  9. Yours looks REALLY nice, man. I think with white, it's either really nice looking, or really, really horrible looking... hard to pull off because it shows off any imperfections. You got it though!
  10. I don't know what to think of it... maybe it's the lighting in the pic, but it almost looks like the original 240z orange, except... faded?
  11. Besides scrapping the motor swap idea, you might be able to get away with it. In California, where we have just as many silly laws as you probably do, if you can find a shady shop to do the inspection for you, you can probably get away with it. I would ask around to some guys you know who do mods, and find out where the best place to go is if you want to pass something that is going to pass smog, just not every rule in the book.
  12. They make a putty that is a sort of epoxy, that can be used with POR-15. It's on their website, comes in rectangular bricks, also available from MSA.
  13. I did talk to the classic tube guys, not a bad deal for stainless. I think I am going to go with 90/10 copper-nickel and build it myself, reason being for the question. I definitely needed to figure out the fuel lines though... I think I will strip everything out after pictures, and figure out what it will take. For the 6mm and 4mm, that is the actual line size, right? what about the fittings? I'm guessing on the 4mm, it's a 10x1.0 fitting like the brake lines?
  14. Cars that look good in bright colors: Zs. Cars that don't look good in bright colors: SUVs.
  15. I have a 4/72 240Z that I am completely overhauling the hard brake and fuel lines. Does anyone have an inventory of how much tubing you need for the entire hard brake line system, as well as the fuel and fuel return hard lines? I am pretty sure there is no vapor return, just a fuel return on mine. Also, I know that all brake lines are 3/16" with 10x1.0 fittings fully threaded, what about on the fuel lines? I can't seem to find anything regarding the size of those fittings, and what size/thread pitch they are. Help!
  16. Since it's a V8 and not an original 79 motor, they won't care that it came out of a 79. What they will care about is what year the V8 itself is. If it came out of an 83 or newer vehicle, and you can prove that, then you are golden. If you can't prove it, but you think you can convince them of it, then I think you are still good. However, I have no idea how they will want you to prove the age of the V8.
  17. You're blowing my mind. How does that work?
  18. Sounds good, I went ahead and ordered up some rage extreme, gonna get the party started!
  19. I'm looking for the general opinion on what to use for body filler, and just as importantly, what to avoid. What are your opinions? I was thinking about POR-15 epoxy putty for its ease of use and durability, but at $120 for six pounds, is it overkill? I don't have a ton of body work to do, parking lot dings and dents mostly. I am not a fan of cutting corners, and I'm definitely willing to pay for quality, but I don't want to splurge where I should be spending wisely.
