  1. Those ones are definitely not the Zeddfindings pans. Although they look like they might do the trick just as well if you aren't looking for originality. I bought the zedd ones and they are nice, one advantage is the extra lip of metal you have to work with for the transmission tunnel side, but if the part leading to the firewall is damaged, those ones might be a better choice, since the zedd ones stop just short of that, at the original seam.
  2. I just talked to a guy out of Memphis, he said to rent the equipment was $950 a week, $3300 a month (which, I guess is along the same price lines just longer periods of time). Did you go through a local guy, Sparks, or did you have to send out for it? I can't seem to find any rental options on my coast.
  3. That is absolutely awesome, I think I might invest in renting one of these setups. It's well worth $400 to be able to get rid of all the old paint with no sandy mess! Perfect for my 2 car garage.

    spam....

good point, hadn't thought about that aspect!

    spam....

Sorry to get off topic a bit, but the whole idea of spam is ludicrous... if its intention is to advertise in a shady manner, but its only actual outcome is pissing people off, what is the point!? Completely a rhetorical question, but still... come on!!
  6. Sweet chain of events, you should have bought a lottery ticket as well!
  7. I too am in the process of stripping my engine bay, I found that heavy duty Aircraft Coating Remover did a great job, not sure about the effect on any zinc coating. Is the zinc coating necessary to have? I'm not a paint pro, just learning as I go... is it possible that it was just an etching, rather than zinc? Unless he had the car dipped, in which case I could see you not wanting to ruin that. I found that when I used the stripper, the metal underneath appeared to have a dull grey finish (this was under factory paint). I'm guessing yours wasn't at all like that. In any case, stripping the bay seems to be a complete P.I.T.A. operation, tons of time and patience and the right wire brush attachments seem to do the trick on my application. I wonder though, for yours, if you won't have to etch the metal once you remove the paint? Does a zinc coating accept primer normally? I'm interested to see if others know the answer to this.
  8. I definitely agree with you on that fiberglass is by no means cut to fit. I'm installing the MSA type III kit, and the only pieces that fit at all like they should are the skirts... I'm going to try my hardest to get them to fit before fastening, your logic on that was what I thought all along too. I'm really looking to see if there is a particular technique that works best to keep the headache to a minimum?
  9. It would help if they still had a hybridz account
  10. I'm looking for ideas on what to use to secure wiring in the engine bay instead of using the factory rubber covered metal tabs. What have you guys used that might look neater and cleaner? I was thinking of some sort of retaining clip, either SS or black plastic... what have you guys had luck with? Any pictures?
  11. If you are hoping to buy it for parts, then I'd say 100% yes, it sounds like you can get at least 500 in parts out of it. If you are buying it to make it a project car, you need to think about how much more money you will need to sink in to it, and then triple that amount. Then, you will see how much money you are really spending on the car. Think of that 500 as a down payment... and the rest of what you will be spending for the next several years to fix it up as the monthly payments!
  12. Jerry, It looks like all of the messages you are sending me are coming out blank for some reason... but I love the straps, they look great!
  13. Just as an update, I went ahead and got hooked up with some C25 and did some test welds, MAN is that nice! It doesn't blow holes through the metal, doesn't splatter everywhere, and leaves a nice, clean, easily controlled bead. Also went down to .023, and that helped a lot. Looks like this project will be a success!
  14. Thank you for that! That is a good way to describe the way the current works in each situation. It helps get a mental picture of what application is needed for the situation.
  15. Just went to Kragen Auto Parts, they had it too, so I picked up a jug, $36 for the big one.
  16. Well... I know if you search on here for some of those body kits, you should be able to find a lot of guys who have already put them on their car, so you can get an idea of a real world application. For instance, do a search on the MSA (motorsportauto) Type III kit, there's a whole thread devoted to it.
  17. No. You can search on here for more pictures of those bodykits, but I don't think you are ever going to find any 1080p HD max resolution pictures of these body kits.
  18. Man, those things were TOAST. At least you know what you have to do. Good deal!
  19. IMO, not a good value for the price. Obviously will need some heavy rust repair, anything that he can take a picture of with his camera phone that is coming through the paint means that entire section is probably GONE and needs to be cut out and welded in. The guy sounds ignorant about important things, and is ready to sell you a piece of crap that he insists you can't get for a better price. PLEASE.
  20. A few red flags... One, horrible ad, no detail at all. If he doesn't pay attention to detail when posting the ad, he probably hasn't paid attention to detail on a car that needs a ton of it. No pictures of the engine bay... His reason for selling is because of the color? .... ..... .......... You tell me. Unless this guy has no clue what he's doing and just bought it on a whim, and is now selling it... I would only trust it if he bought it 3 months ago, and is selling it again... and then, you still don't know anything about the car.
  21. Be careful, if this turns into a bimmer thread, it's likely to head to the toolshed. However, it's a BMW powered Z, well... now... that could be interesting...
  22. No joke. That's crazy. I guess that means the possibilities are endless!
  23. I found 3m on amazon.com for $5 a can, but I have not found it anywhere else, at least not where I am. You might be able to find it regionally, though. The stuff I found on amazon.com wasn't the professional grade stuff, either.
