If the engine/trans position is correctly lined-up with the diff, then consider the clearancing part of the norm as far as an engine swap is concerned. In fact anything that doesn't weaken structural integrity is fair game to bend, bash-in or cut-off. If you want to be really cool, cut out the area that you need to clearance, fab-up a little sheet metal cover and weld it over the hole. Nice and neat, looks professional. And yes, it is normal. Should kick ass with that 347. jon

Clearance the tunnel a little. A Ball peen hammer works well for this.

Tire diameter effect on axle ratio?
Jumbo240ez replied to jimszx's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
check this out... http://www.prestage.com/Car+Math/Gear+Ratios+and+Tire+Sizes+/default.aspx -
uh, why don't you have some made?

I don't know much about these engines, but if it's overhead cam it's probably too wide for a z without relocating the suspension et al... If the search is working you'll find lots on the subject of mod motors.

I use an edelbrock performer rpm and a e303 ford hyd roller cam (or is it the b303?), maybe 9:1 comp, short headers. Powerband really comes on at 4k and pulls to 6.2kish. That's with a 625 cfm vac sec carb and smaller-than-185s gt-40 alum heads and gt valvetrain. It pulls good @ 2500 to get me around a slow turn (turn 11 at Sears in third gear) without spinning the tires, and then climbs very quickly from there to my shift point which is 6k. Anyway, I could drive it all day on the street (if it weren't so uncomfortable) and it's plenty fast on the track. Better get some brakes. Have fun.

Carburated ford 302 camber plates, springs, tokikos, subframe connectors, new floors, toy brakes yadda yadda yadda... It runs. It's clean. I have fun. Debating wether to gut it and add a cage or not. jon

Nice looking project. I have a video clip (in car and out) of how single exhaust sounds. If I can't get those to you, let me say that it sounds great. I have 2.5" to a custom y-pipe just behind the tremec into 3" race bullet to a flowmaster. A buddy at Sears Point said it sounded like "NASCAR" going by. You'll like the sound. I have no means to post the vid.... but I can email them to you. 2--4 MB each zipped. Jon

Nice looking Z, Bob. It would look good in just about any color. Jon

Help, my buddy wants to install a 289c.i. Ford in his1973 Z
Jumbo240ez replied to a topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
pick-up a copy of the jtr chevy installation manual. you'll need it. if you're using a front sump sbf, alsil's crossmember won't work, unless you cut off the crossmember. it's easy to build your own mounts. do a search and you should find at least a few ways to build them. cheers -
Davy, I used nutserts and panhead screws. Jon
-
No, that I know of... but then I don't know that much.

Oh, I got these specs from corner-carvers.com, Roushgtr is the user name. Nice engine build info there. Jon

Oooh, just reread Mike's post... Mike, if you mount the tranny to the tunnel or the floor it'll be just fine. The JTR mount has been used for years on very HIGH HP motors with no problems. (I think Don M's 11.1xx Z uses that mount.) If you have problems with the tranny mount twisting/breaking/etc you have bigger problems than the mounting point. Just my .02 cheers

What, no twin turbo rotary?! I'm gonna be disapointed! Can't wait to see all the V8 Zs there... Ford or otherwise.

Yup, Auxilary even looks funny.

Alex, get the car to Mike or vis versa... If you want an ugly weld, I'll do it. But there's got to be a way.
