  1. I agree with everything John Coffey said... Notch the frame and make a hole in the mount and make a bash plate for the oil pan. It's looking good Alex! JUST DO IT! jon
  2. roger what terry said.... I would have said "to off-setting driver wieght" though.!!!!!! yahhhhhh, works for me!
  3. Hi Randy, By internal do yo mean hydralic throw-out? If so, Terry (blueoval) has info on that. But I think all you need to do is buy one with sufficient travel and plumb it in. Sorry, no part numbers. If you want an external slave, there is an outfit that makes a mount that bolts a push-type onto the tranny (I think a t-5)... it's dubed a hydralic replacement for mustangs. I installed a pull-type (wilwood) on my Z. You'll need to fab a mount but it's easy. Hope to see you in a ford/Z soon on the track. I love mine. Take care. Jon
  4. Davy glad to hear you're moving ahead! I think it'll look really nice all clean shaven. Can't wait to see it. jon
  5. Hello ZFord, welcome to the forum. To answer your first question: There aren't any headers that bolt-in. You have three choices that I know of. 1) add a u-joint to your steering shaft to move the shaft outboard and make room for block huggers. 2) modify an off-the-shelf header to gain clearance. 3) build your own headers. Many guys have added a u-joint to their steering shaft. One install that I recall, was done by SCCA. If you search using his user name you'll find a link to his web site which has pics of his install. I think it's fonebooth.com but I'm not sure. The parts to do the linkage aren't hard to find on the web. I researched it back when I was doing my install and found a few resources (I can't recall the vendor right now, but if you're interested I'll locate the url for you). Personally, I chose to modify my Hooker block hugger header. It was an easier way to go for me at the time. What you need to do is cut pie-shaped slices out of the tubes at the header flange so you can angle the header in towards the engine about 1/2". But of course, if you replace your header, you'll have to do it all over again. I'm going to assume you can imagine what it involves if you decide to build your own headers. If you mount the engine to the frame rails you will need to reinforce them or you will tear the mounts right off. You can weld material to the top, bottom and sides. Or you can sleeve the frame rail with some tube stock where the bolts go through it. I chose to sleeve the frame rails. If you want more info on this let me know and we'll do it through email. Good luck. The Ford is a great choice for an all around sports car and worth the extra effort. Regards. Jon
  6. Looks fantastic Aux! Also looks like you're making great progress and it'll be done in no time. Jon
  7. I'm in Antioch. Redding is freaking far away. At least you're close to Thunderhill...
  8. Hi Dan, I just saw this post, been busy, actually still am... anyway, I have a front sump 302 and I did clearence the crossmember some... I ground off the "lip" along the bottom and welded it together. That was because I think my engine sits lower than others. BTW, I could've mounted the engine further back 1/2" and have cleared the crossmember but then I'd have to pull the engine to R&R the clutch so I didn't. I'm talking with Stephs(sp?) about building a custom pan that has the side "wings" angled back in the front for crossmember clearance. If the cost is okay I'll go with it and let you guys know how much etc. I don't think you need it but I'll feel better with the baffling and windage and extra oil. If it's cost prohibitive I'll just go with a windage tray. I think I have about 1/8" clearance right now between the pan and the crossmember. If you want more you can always clearance the pan some if it makes you feel better. I haven't had any problems with the 1/8" clearance though. sorry for the random thoughts but it's late. night all.
  9. Here's my aluminum head/intake 302 looks like... http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_personal.php?user_id=3604 Build a 331 or 347 stroker out of a 302. I see a 347 in my future. Good luck.
  10. You could quite possibly modify Al's mount to accomadate your install. I built mine based on an earlier Al mount (not connected with the crossmember) and cut a pretty deep groove to allow for steering shaft clearance and modded the DS header for clearance. I don't know how high an EFI engine sits, but I re-shaped the mounts to get the engine to sit where I wanted. It's trial and error. I haven't had any problems with sagging or twisting. The engine is a GT-40 long block with aluminum heads, performer rpm, demon carb yadda yadda. Hot Rod Mag built the same engine and it dyno'd at 377hp/crank. I don't know how the mounts would hold-up to 450+hp. Regardless of mount, if you bolt anything to the frame rails, a most important thing to do is support the frame rails where the mount bolts on. Sleeving the bolt holes is a good way to go. There are some pics at the link in my sig. Good luck.
  11. ...breathing that is... I still have print-outs of your brakes that some day I will install when I get tired of replacing rotors cuz of the hawk blues... Not to totally hi-jack this post but Sunday I just laid a great posi patch in front of Dan Juday's house! Hahaha... I usually wouldn't do something like that, the neighboors come out all huffy and crap, but it seems that old Phantom grip is still holding up. I'm going to get an LSD soon though. Can you get any deals on a Quaife? Take care. Nice to see you around. Jon
  12. Great! Since Al left we need more fords on the road. Can't wait to see it. Jon
  13. Addendum to previous post: if you have reasonable skill at fabrication (welding, cutting, drilling) you can make your own. The clutch fork only needs to move .375 to .5", and you find a pull-type slave cylinder to do it, all you have to do it mount it securely. Or if you want to use a push type slave, mounting is still the biggest issue.
  14. My vote goes to Pete Paraska. He pioneered, as far as I know and that's all that matters to me, many of the fundementals of building a V8 Z. Mainly the structural aspects of V8 Z design. If you don't know of him, check out his website. Frankly if it wasn't for his site, I would not have built a V8, albeit a Ford, 240Z. Jon
  15. Can the latches be interchanged? I don't know... just asking.
  16. Search the net. Theres a company that makes a kit/bracket to mount a slave on the t-5. I recall it's expensive though...$3--400????
  17. 98% of all Fords are still on the road, the other 2% made it home Snick. Jon

  19. Randy, I worked for 15 years in the advertising business. Created work for so many brands that you've heard of it's sick. I got laid off in April... standard serverance for 15 f*cking years of service. Took 2 months off, would have taken more but an old partner called me and wanted to work together again. I was so disillusioned with the business that I almost said no. But of course I said yes and now we have two clients, I have three , but I'm much happier and have more freedom than I've ever had, and I'm earning the same cash. The cool thing is I'm responsible for making as much money as I can handle. Not some f*ck in NY. I realized that I really hated my old job... I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe you should try going it on your own. It's ******* scary as hell but if you can take a few months to try it, it might be worth it in the long run... maybe some race buddies have some work for you??? I don't know. If you need any help with getting your name and capabilities out in front of people, let me know. I was burnt out, but I realized I was burnt out on the system. Good Luck. Jon
  20. I left out the one of Dan crying tears of joy...
  21. I was there to see it come off the trailer and driven into the garage. Beautiful bodywork and paint. It was well worth the wait. Jon
  22. What a ******* idiot. Drop it into a ******* integra, *******. "I have an engine in search of a car". Dumb ass.
  23. Josh, is your Z on the road yet? Jon
  24. I run 2.5 to a cutom "Y" to a 3" dynomax race bullet just before the diff, and out through a flowmaster muff. Works great.
