  1. From what I read, the VG30dett has less turbo lag than a similar engine with one turbo. Where can you buy a VQ30det?
  2. Pretty nice engine. mo' money.. mo' money.. mo' money. Ferd
  3. Thanks for the information. I like the way rivets look in certain places in sheet. Ferd
  4. You are probably right. I think in the future though, I will at least check the balance of the pressure plate and clutch plate to be sure its balanced. I think that the method above would work. Ferd
  5. See this is what I am talking about. People spend lots of money banancing the internal components of the engine but the pressure plate, which may or may not be bananced, is bolted to the flywheel. I mean could this be a major item that takes the engine out of balance. I guess it would be easy to balance. Like the pendulum way to balance a wheel or tire. You know hang from a string centered in the middle of the pressure plate. I think I will somehow get mine balanced when the time comes to remove it. Ferd
  6. Why is this when there is a lot of weight spinning around? I know that this could be a really stupid question but what the hey. These are the things I think of when its 21 degrees in Dallas. Ferd
  7. Sounds fishy. like it was stolen or has problems. FERD
  8. I think the police will give this information as a normal course of business. Several years ago some woman did damage to a fender on my wifes car. My wife got the license number, and the cops gave me the information. This was in Kansas City Kansas. Ferd
  9. Has anyone attached or adorned body sheet metal with the aviation style rivets? By aviation I mean that the rivets are hammered from the back to enclose the layers of sheet metal. I have seen Jesse James and others sheet metal workers use them and the process looks really cool. Apparently they form a stronger bond than welding. Wonder what the process is. There are some areas of my interior ( which is aluminum ) which could benefit from this method. Ferd
  10. I thought you had to use something like word. I will try what you said. THanks Ferd
  11. THe pics show up when I do a print preview, but the document is formated with the the hyperlink statements and not the pics. When I need to read I need to do a print preview or web preview. I can live with this, but would prefer to have the pics show up when I open the document if possible. Ferd
  12. Thanks guys I will give it a try. Ferd
  13. How do I go into a website, like this one, and copy a document with jpg's onto a word document, without Word XP replacing the pictures (.jpg) with the hyperlink source statement? Ferd
  14. tried to read your url but goes to Hybridz search. When I search I find nada. Ferd
  15. Here is a question that i have been thinking about. Can too high oil pressure ( i.e.90lbs) raise the pressure in the crankcase so that the dipstick pops out. I know that PVC or breather valves on the valve covers relieve high crankcase pressures caused by blowby. But can the oil pressure routing cause undue high pressure in the crankcase in and of itself. Ensuing damage could be seals leaking etc. Ferd.
  16. Since you dropped $5K already, you might want to stop the bleeding. The reason I feel you are in a bad situation is that apparently there is no deadline or spending limit or estimate. Maybe you should negotiate these two items up front. Like someone said above, its you have a knowledgeable mechanic you might wind up with a nice car. Ferd
  17. IMO, one important thing to remember to answer this question is that a turbo changes 'velocity energy' into 'pressure energy' which creates heat. The turbo as I understand it, has only one job. Stands to reason, cooler denser air is the job of 'a' cooling system (not the turbo) whether its intercooler method, intracooler method, water injection, or whatever. Believe me, everything has been tried to cool Turbo air pressure heat generation. A good book in the HPBOoks Turbocharges by Hugh Macinnes. Ferd
  18. Here is a crate engine based on a 305 SBF thats is interesting to read about from Rousch. Got $9000?http://www.factoryfive.com/table/engines/roush/327alf5.html Ferd
  19. About the tranny, THis may be sacreligious...but what about an (ugh!)automatic. For a car with this torque, an automatic may be the best for satisfaction and ET's. How about a GM400 which I think B&M rates at over 500lbs of Torque. Ferd
  20. both will be fun. This is the Ford thread so I vote blue oval. More exclusive. Ferd
  21. My $ .02. I own a Z32 n/a and a SBF 289 powered 280Z not completed yet. The Z32 is such a beautiful machine why mess it up? I take good care of my Z32, and when I get the 280 running, I am going to 'wear it out'. Good Luck with your decision. Ferd
  22. You probably have already seen this car but I thought I would post anyway. http://www.datsunrestore.com/custom2.html
  23. You probably know this but: A good place to get information about FRP construction is from those who build boats. If there is a boat factory around your area you can usually visit without any problem and watch them use the materials. Cheaper boats use the chop gun which takes the place of mat and is sprayed on the gelcoat. Expensive yachts use mat/cloth and are hand laid. At boat stores you can get materials maybe a little cheaper than at auto stores ( but never cheaper than Walmart). I have never seen pro's working with these materials without proper filter masks so I suggest you do the same. Fiberglass particles in the lungs is a bummer. There is a book I found at the library called somthing like "Using laminates for automotive bodies". Sorry I dont remember any more but this hard cover takes you through all the steps including male and female plug construction and all the different types of laminates including FRP and Carbon Fiber. Should be easy to find look in amazon. Hope this helps--good luck Ferd
