  1. I don't believe David K was tring to be a smart ass. He is a large supporter to HybridZ and it is people like him that keep this website healthy and alive. There are a lot of people that do post in places that they should not have. This can causes the forums to get mixed up with irrelivent information.
  2. You are, in a way, 100% correct. BUT...my original intent for this thread was to be technical, to figure out the absolute loss of power to everything. I have had a dead battery with my other cars but nothing to this extreme. If I had know this was going to end up a conversation about not letting your friends drive your car I would have put it in the non-tech forum.

  4. Well I figured out the problem, the battery is not tied down and when the car jumped the battery was hitting the hood and arcing across. I guess it drained the battery. I jumped it and it started. I took it to get the alternator and battery checked and they both checked out good. I cleaned the terminals off real good and it startrd just fine. Thankfully it was an easy fix and nothing too major. But I still hold strong against people driving my car.
  5. Well now is the grulling task of figuring out what the problem is. When I mean there is no power to anything, there is absolutly no power to anything. Kinda like the battery is completely disconnected. I am suposed to move on Sunday and if I can't get her running by then I'm gonna be pissed.
  6. So I was rudely awoken a moment ago (6:30 am:evil:) with my roomy telling me he can't get my 83 ZX started. He said he had to move it so he could get his dad's BMW out of the garage. I asked him what the car was doing and he said when he turned the key the car would just jump forward. No S**T, it's in gear. Then I went down to move the car because he was too incompitant and to my surprise there is absolutely no power what so ever. Not even a single inside light would come on. The moral of this is NEVER LET YOUR FRIENDS HAVE THE KEYS TO YOUR CAR!!!!!!! Because when something goes wronge you have no clue to what it could be. Sorry if I misspelled anything (which I probubly did), I'm still half asleep and just wanting to go back to bed. I'll figure this one out later.

  8. The head is shaved a little under the limit for needing tower shims. BUT the rockers are resurfaced. I have not really heard of anything going wronge with these but I also havnt heard alot of people doing it. I dont think it could mess with the wipe pattern too much. Also, I know with changing cam shafts you have a different timing curve. Is this cam going to give me a different timing setup? Will 93 oct gas be fine with 11:1 or will i still need additives?(Its alot better than the crappy Cali gas)
  9. Well that is what I was wondering, I read in another thread that the performance springs are for a lift greater than 460. And also that the datsun cams are really sensitive to spring preasure. I am asuming that the aftermarket springs are stiffer but wont damage a performance cam. What role do the performance springs take, higher rev capability?
  10. The head that I am getting comes with new valve springs so they should be good to go with that cam. What conditions would I need performance springs? What are the benefits of performance springs?
  11. The car has 180K on it and the compression is perfect, 178psi on each cylinder. I have looked into MS when I tried my turbo conversion but there where alot of things I would need that I didnt have the money for at the time. Im not sure what I would need to run MS for an N/A app. but if I go that road I will get my info and do it right. The car does not smoke. And if anyone has a set of headers for sale I will be interested in a purchase.
  12. My state does not give a $$$$ about emissions at all. I want to go with some headers and then run 2.5" strait piped. Its the stock 83 zx motor n/a. I am running a sort of cold air, i took the original air filter box out and just stuck a filter on the end of the tubing through the radiator brace.
  13. So I am trying to get some more ponies out of my Z and i have decided to go with a stage 3 cam (460 lift / 260/270 durration) and pair it up with a MN47 head. I am hoping this wont cause my to upgrade my internals as well. I am going to try to post pics step by step of the process. Im doing this with a friend who is an ASE certified mechanic so I dont miss something that I might not know. I am trying to get the head from a man that rebuilds them. I found him on ebay and his store name is Datsun-Parts if anyone knows of him. I will get the cam, valve springs and lash pads from MSA. The entire parts cost should be around $750 with the gasket kit. Any ideas or words of advice are welcome.

  15. I keep looking for this thread I came up on one day that showed a comparisson of all the different cylinder heads for the L series motors. It even included the rare mythical DOHC Head. I have been searching a bit for the past week with no luck.

  17. Well I have been considering re-doing my exhaust lately. Right now my exhaust comes out right after the cat and I like the tone of it. The only thing I dont like is the fact that it is directly under me and it kinda gets annoying. I am planning on swapping to a mn47 head with a mild street cam. What my main concern is about how a 3" strait pipe setup would sound on an N/A motor. Or if I went with a pacesetter header and 2.5" strait pipe all the way back, but.... I'm kinda tight on money so that might have to wait for another time.
  18. It very well could be heat soak because I am running an N42 intake with no heat shield. I am also running oversized injectors and am running slightly rich. I am not running any cold start system so I dont think it could be the AAR. Could advancing my timing help out with running rich or would that not do anything?
  19. Well the car has been running fairly well lately (I had a fairly decent vacume leak that I took care of). But if I run the car at a consistant RPM for 10 minutes or more and then turn the car off, when I turn it back on and start going the car missfires really bad for about 2-3 minutes and then its fine.

  22. I know this might be slightly off topic but is there any way that i can change my user name? When i made it i did not put much time into it at all cuz i was just worried aout getting my car fixed but now i am on the site at least twice a day and im kinda sick of looking at my name.
  23. I noticed the missfire about a week before i swapped intake manny and TB. It was running good when i bout it and the only mod that the car had before i got it was the EGR valve was blocked off. when i pulled the spark plugs out before i swapped intakes they were white as snow so i thought maybe my injectors were going bad.
