  1. Ive learned a few things over the past week or so.. First.. use a Dual Action Sander on the car, then use the sandblaster for hard to reach areas Second.. if you build an enclosure like I did.. I tried using duct tape and 3 mil plastic and PVC for a frame. I would duct tape the plastic to the PCV, which didnt turn out to be too successful. I had leaks all over when I put the booth in positive pressure and the plastic would fall all over the place. I bought a can of Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive.. which is AWESOME. It really seals the booth and I havent had any issues with the plastic falling apart or leaks causing my garage to be encapsulated in a cloud of dust
  2. Oh BTW... I would NOT recommend blasting an entire car with this. It will simply take too long and the bags of media will add up very very fast. I would take it to a shop or RENT a towable blaster. I will use this for blasting parts and getting into the cracks and areas that a hand sander cant reach.
  3. Im running a 60 gallon Husky air compressor. 135 PSI maximum pressure and air delivery 11.5/10.2 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI. As for duty cycle.. I have no idea what that means .. haha. sorry. It pretty much runs ALL the time while im blasting. I usually have to give the pressure pot a big shake to get the soda down the in siphon, every few minutes or so.. but I dont have any problems with the compressor running out of air.
  4. Well well.. what an experience.. I received the Soda Blaster from Eastwood .. I was able to assemble the unit fairly easily.. but the hoses were practically glued to the hose barbs, so I had to cut them with a razor blade and add some grease for the next time I need to remove the hoses. I built an enclosure in the garage out of PVC and 3.5 mil plastic... cost about $80 or so. I added a IN and OUT fan... which turned out to be a bad idea.. the IN fan pushed more air then was coming out.. even with the IN fan set to SLOW and the OUT fan set to FAST.. so soda blasted out of the enclosure and covered the garage. I blocked the IN fan and just kept the OUT fan on and kept the room in a negative pressure, which was pretty effective. I was able to work for about 20 min before the room became soooooo dusty the visibility was so bad I couldnt see the end of my car.. so I took a break. Once I adjusted the valves I got the soda blasting really smoothly.. I was able to work with about a 3/4"-1" diameter blast zone, one quick pass got the clear coat off, the next pass removed the paint, the next pass removed the primer. It works fairly quickly.. but imagine scrubbing a car with something the size of a quarter. itll take a while. I will use a sander and grinder for the big body parts, and use the soda blaster to get in areas that I cant reach with a orbital sander or angle grinder with a wire wheel. I went through about 50 pounds an hour.. I purchased the XL (coarse) soda from Harbor Freight for about $39 ea. so thats almost $40 an hour to operate this. I could imagine easily going through 600 pounds on a car that hasnt been touched.. I WILL be re-using the old soda all over the floor.. and will strain it all out. Hopefully itll work ok as a fine media.
  5. Well.. i currently have a 280z that has a "moonroof" installed, with a tilt and raise panel of glass. I would like to get rid of the hole in the roof, since most racing sanctions wont approve a glass or plexi, or carbon roof plug. Anyone had any success welding in a new plug? Or should I search the junk yards and cut a whole roof skin off???
  6. Most of you know I went to school for B.S. in Aviation technology with a concentration in "Pro pilot" .. but I recently shifted over to "Air Traffic Control" due to the poor job field for Pilots.. So the FAA had me take the FAA ATSAT or the Air Traffic Control aptitude test.. to see if I'm qualified or not to be a air traffic controller.. 70-85% is qualified and passing 85.1-100% is well qualified and passing!! I made it to the "well qualified" pool!! Im reeeeaaallllyyyy excited!!! whooo hoo!! Now I wait for the background checks and for the FAA to start pulling pools. Just wanted to share
  7. Enter Coupon Code "THANKS" .. Should be good till 4/29.. not eligible on heavy heavy items. Tis all
  8. oh i cant wait till i start my career so i can own a real car. awesome purchase
  9. well... months later.. I just bought the Eastwood Soda Blaster this morning.. FREE shipping which is nice! Saved $66!! As soon as I get it, Ill take pics, a quick video and write up a review. I believe they said it was on back order till the 9th. That will give me time to build a nice enclosure so I can blast in my garage without worrying about soda and dust ALL over the garage. Should be interesting!! If it sucks.. Ill sell it or return it lol.
  10. My club charges $35 an hour for the instructor.. $117 for a good model Cessna 172 with GPS. so for a 2 hour session.. $70 for the instructor.. roughly $160 for the plane (log roughly 1.3-1.6 hrs per session)... average private pilot makes it around 55 hours or so. soo roughly $8,500 - $9,500 is a good average. Whats nice is if you pay a flat rate.. you can use him as little or as much as you can.. rather then paying by hour if your having difficulties. So take advantage and use up as much time and make your money worth!!
  11. That brings up a question.. The Subaru WRX STi.. a rally born street car right?! Im surprised a HLSD (torsen) would be used in a AWD Rally car environment where the wheels are lifted in the air and are on loose surfaces... hmm
  12. Ive been doing research for hours now.. and I'm having a difficult time trying to decide between a Clutch type LSD or a Torsen type LSD... I realize the that the clutch type is a 2 way LSD.. torsen is 1.5 way LSD.. The clutches will wear down over time, the Torsen is fairly maintenance free other then careful use of oil. Subaru used the VLSD, then the CLSD and now Torsen LSD's... makes me wonder why over the years Subaru opted for a Torsen in the newest models.. Some say the Torsen LSD acts as an open differential when a wheel is in the air.. CLSD's do not.. some say CLSD's are great for drifting, Torsens are not.. some say the Torsen pulls you out of a corner like a rocket, CLSD's do not.. I need help deciding.. someone chime in!
  13. yeehh sorry I meant why didnt you install the whole Subaru differential?! Ive been able to find differentials for $350 shipped which isnt bad
  14. im very curious to see Monzter, Tony D, John C, Jon M, and JeffP's input on this thread =)
  15. why did you just install the Subi LSD instead of swapping in the guts into the nissan R180?
  16. *** Question - soo I found a source for a 2006 CLSD and a 2007 Torsen LSD... looks like both have a 3.54 differential... I've done some research and I'm having a hard time trying to decide which is a better choice. Soo.. which would you guys recommend.. Torsen or Clutch type?!
  17. my this sounds familiar. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=55668 This is for a turbo'd motor.. but similar symptoms can develop on a N/A during decel.
  18. when I had a problem with my ACT clutch.. I made a posting on here and on youtube showing the issue.. I promptly got a call from ACT offering me a free replacement if I promised to remove the video and update my posts showing that ACT stands behind their product. They kept their word and stood behind their product. I am very impressed with their customer service and will recommend a ACT clutch.. I would try Fidanza again and explain the situation and ask for a another solution... if the manager is smart and realizes he could be loosing a lot of business.. he will work with you. I promise.
  19. wow.. is he really revving the engine up and down for 5 min?!
  20. i had a similar issue.. even with loc-tite .. it was the weirdest thing. After a heavy inspection I found that my lock washers were no longer "locking" after being worn down over the years. May I also recommend a "stubby" 10 mm wrench.. it makes life much much easier =)
  21. Hey John, Are the Subaru R180's a 2 pinion or 4 pinion?!
  22. lol.. lady gaga's "telephone" playing in japan. in english. hmm
