  1. could be something i could look into. Lucky the l20et has all the gear i need.
  2. Finialy a detialed topic on installing l28's and forward facing sumps. Right now i have just picked up a complete 280zx for $300 nz (150 american) IM going to rebuild the current l28 and Swap over my l20et turbo gear and run it in my HR30 skyline. Now from what i understand that has been coverd Is all about the sump and oil pick up. From what i know is. The l20et uses the forwards facing sump. Now would i ble able to swap over the sump .(which of corse has oil return for the turbo) Change over the l20et oil pump and dizzy drive. And use the l20et oil pick up. And redrill the dipstick hole. Now this would be perfectly safe and actully doable. From what i read i maybe misunderstand is that i cannot swap the oil pump over to my L turbo one ?
  3. intresting how much for the megasquirt. any good at tunning ? THE downside to my l28et build is that it will be going into my hr30 coupe. Which i have to change the oil pump anyway pick up, Sump and get the dipstick redriled for the Forward facing sump. Bit of a pain
  4. HAAH thanks for the replys. good to see some people on the same game as me. Acuatlly i dont think ill have to much problems with my intake. IT has some ported runners. And a 60mm TB. with the inlet matched to it also. So it can really flow something large! Sorry tho im in wellington. Looks like i could be getting a nice falt this weekend. If all goes well with a double garrage!!!! And got a whole 280zx for $300 For the time being ill be using the facotry l20et gear. Im running some vg30et 270cc injectors in the l20et atm as i maxed out my others. Im sure the l20et gear will be very simlar to the l28et gear... Injectors are still to small for my likings.
  5. Sorry to boot a old post. I have just got a l28e. Well picking it up this sunday. What id like to know is there a way i can mod my dizzy drive to adapt my l20et optical/cas dizzy ? It has the common star shaped drive and slot. ID rather not swap the oil pump drives over as i dont really have the skills to do it. Well maybe but not the guts lol
  6. Saying it doesnt. Ive beged to differ. i gained heaps of power when removing my EGR system. Could of been faullty, hard to tell tho
  7. i think he is talking about the idle problem ?. i had the same thing. Removed it and no more hunting idle. or steeping up when changing gear
  8. Good to see a good positive reply. Thanks . From what ive been reseaching. Most l26's were carb. And with the carbsetup the head doesnt have the same bolt pattern to suit a EFI manifold. (plus the lack of injector holes.) Can anyone prove this ? . Id like to use my already ported and shaved maifold off my l20et if this ever comes off the ground.
  9. Whoohooo bfree bump . Someone else maybe intrested in the same thing ? Really when you think about it everything about the L6's is the same. Cranks are mighty strong. Same with the rods. ect yada yada. A l26 has a e88 head, if might stand corrected; 8.29:1, Good compression ratio to turbo. I currently have a l20et which i can swap all the turbo gear over onto. Sump dizzy drive ect to convert it into the right setup (no locking dizzy for me) And 270cc injectors should be enough for a L26....
  10. From what i can work out. Would converting a l26 to turbo aplication be a reliable conversion ? And Compression ratio's in the right aspect ? Im thinking of going this way with for my R30 with a l20et. Since l26's are more avalivle in NZ compared to a L28. L28's get snatched up quickly here and fetch big money. Maybe its something that could be tryed and proven compared to the well over done l28
  11. i could possibly make a high compression turbo. if i can get enough fuel in there. Unless someone else can beg to differ?
  12. ah well sounds like it would still be a worth while block and head to use for my l28et conversion .
  13. Looks like i may have found a L28 for my turbo build But its out of a Nissan patrol; And that she is a carby. what are the specs for the factory carby l28's e.g compression ratio. what head does it run ect... Thanks
  14. well with this type of dyno run wasnt for tunning. they just hook it up and run it. It was a club dyno day. No Knock sensor. Im still using the factory ECU. ect. couldnt hear it ping once in the small room.
  15. ok.... good questions. the rb20det turbo really has good effency up to 17psi. But they tend to drop a exhaust wheel at that level of boost. L20et's make 140hp standard on 4psi. i was expecting around the mid 130's (rwkw) i definitly feels like that kind of power. which is weird im really comparing this to my mates old HR30 that did 132rwkw on 13psi. Standard turbo. small FMIC. (rx7 frount mounted) 3 fuel pumps and a surge tank. and a exhasut and dump pipe. Im using the factory dump pipe off the rb20det.
  16. you say to rich eh. MY a/f guage running off a new o2 sensor shows 1 bar above stonic on full boost. I know its not the best way to mesure. And it only blew a tiny bit of gray smoke on the dyno. so you guys would agree that with the current mods i have it should be making more ?
  17. just got back from the SDU dyno day. and a intresting factor. Sorry i dont have a scanner atm. so i wont be able to put up the plot. But this thing has been plaugeing me. Last year i got a dyno dont on the rollers and hit 109rwkw (146hp) at the wheels. and 350nm of torque (i think). Mods were. 600hp fuel pump. Standard turbo 8psi. 2.5" exhasut. 30deg inital timing. small 300x300x50mm intercooler. ect. TO me thats not to bad really. i was exspecting more. Now. todays dyno. on a dynapac dyno. was 124rwkw. 1077nm of torque ( i dont know how to work out the split ratio on that torque reading) the thing that gets me is. the mods i have done should have more power than that. My new mods are. Rb20det turbo running 14psi. Shaved and ported egr manifold with 60mm throttle body. RB25det FPR. 600x300x60mm Intercooler. 35deg of inital timing. (still doesnt ping) I reality shouldnt i be making more power than that since im nearly running double the boost compared to before. I know the A/f ratios arnt showen. ( i didnt get a reading) but its clearly running rich on the dyno. Any insite ?
  18. Id love to run a aftermarket setup. but its money Does anyone know if vg30et injectors are low imedance ? If so. thats what ill be using
  19. Correct the same as a l28et. the 4000rpm maxed on the AFM will explain it clearly. Cannot wait for the injectors now
  20. figured so. thats the problem. Dfinity 4500rpm onwards it leans out. Injectors come in the next few days. would 259cc injectors compared to 180cc's Be enough ?
  21. When the head was skimmed its was minimal. Nothing big at all. I seem'd to found out a major part ofthe probem seemd to be a bad wire on the afm plug. *resoldierd* and alot of the leaning out probems were gone. Its still leaning out. not as bad tho. So i say ive maxed my injectors out. Since they are only 185cc's And having the extra flow of a 60mm tb and larger intake runners. well at 8psi they seem'd to be maxed. Got some vg30et inectors on the way. 259cc should help alot
  22. Unsure if the intake is a related problem. But ive installed a flowed and have intake manifold with a 60mm Sr20det throttle body. (bored intake to match) this was installed at the same time i did a head gasket on it. Now the head gasket is a long story but it ended up with the head being wapred and it had to come off again. Even with this intake installed with the warped head. It ran mint. Simply great smooth heaps of power. Now after getting the head skimmed. and crack tested. All installed. ect... IT runs like complete crap. Seems to be running lean alot of the time. any sign of boost after 2 seconds. bam... Lean!!!! Now gone thru the most common ideas that could be a problem e.g adjusting afm ? (only for non boost really) Checking timing. Also cam timing. ect... The question is. Can increasing your intake flow, with a bigger TB ect make it run megga lean?. or what can cause it to randomly after putting it back together that it all changes.
  23. righty, the time has come again for my head to be installed again. (hopefully this time no smoke) All head bolt torque settings i can find are for non turbo L6's. Does anyone have the factory torque settings for a l20et/l28et ?
  24. The idea i was thinking was putting it in front of the TB. taking the AFM out of the equasion of restricting the intake. But non the less i was proven wrong. lol. wouldnt the air flow be similar untill boost is reached ? with that it will be still the same fueling on full boost ?
  25. Very nice. good to see the time and effort gone into it. Pitty mine is turbo
