  1. Mike, I agree with 240hybrid, I think a darker blue looks better then bayside blue IMHO. I would go with the green if it were me but either way it's going to look awesome.
  2. Just went and got my issue Good seat article.
  3. I am looking at putting about 300-350hp to the ground in my 240Z and am wondering how I can keep my chassis straight. I have a small paint crack above the 1/4 windows so I know something already needs to be done. Doors close reasonably good and so did the hood when it was on the car. I am going to do subframe connectors and strut tower braces. My question is will this be enough? I was considering putting in some sort of rollbar/cage that would give me some side impact protection as well connect to rear stut tower. This is going to be a street car and I dont want the cage to become a PITA to get in/out of car. Can I use 280Z doors which are alot stronger on my car instead of going with a cage? Or is a cage necessary? I would like to hear how much power others are putting down in their 240's and what chassis mods they have. I would rather do to much reinforcement then to little and then I have room for more power at a later date.
  4. Where in BC are you from? If you have the ability to fabricate the parts for the JTR swap and you look around for the right engine/tranny combo I think you could easily do it for under 4000 CDN. If you have to order the parts from JTR and get them shipped into Canada be prepared to spend around 600 CDN. I think a 302/T5 out of a Camaro would be your best bet since you can easily get 250-300hp and you can find one in a JY as they are alot more common then trying to find a L6. Depending on your Z you may want to think of going Carb rather then FI but thats up to you.
  5. 74_5.0L_Z, I believe this is what your looking for http://raceabilene.com/kelly/hotrod/engine.html -Geoff
  6. Also one thing to remember is when brining it over (at least in BC) I was told by Canadian Customs that you have to register the vehicle in your province within 45 days (if you plan to drive it around) or if you are going to restore or whatever you can take as long as you want just after 45 days they wont let you drive with foreign documentation. Only driving you can do with insurance is to get it inspected after those 45 days. It could vary with your province. I am not driving it around so its not a big deal but it could potentially be because the inspection can be a PITA if EVERYTHING is not working. They will fail you for not having a bulb working or having high beam switch and not having working high beams etc...
  7. I think thats a great idea. I've seen it on lots of forums and think it would be a good thing. Problem is lots of peoples cars are custom jobs - but it would be cool for the more common things.
  8. You might have better luck trying a search. This topic has come up quite a few times. Dont choose a engine only based on pros/cons from others. The easiest swap will most likely be the one that you have the most experience (or your brother's experience) in dealing with. The knowledge of a particular engine will get your alot more then someone elses opinion of what makes a better swap. The Ford, Chev and L28ET swap can all perform very well and are the most common swaps done. Myself I think the easiest swap would probably the L28ET into your 280Z. Your already setup for fuel injection and all the parts are a direct swap. If you dont want to go this route Chev is the easiest (thanks to JTR) and of course the Ford Route you have alsil's crossmember but the Ford conversion has little documentation so your more on your own (similar to other engines like RB26DETT etc....) I think everything has come up before and the search function will point you in the right direction. Also you may want to read rules regarding posting same post in multiple forums and other rules of the site. They are located in a sticky thread in each section http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24335 Finally welcome to HybridZ!
  9. Wow that thing must fly. My friend has one but its no Big Block, his still has the original 1.6 Litre. With all that weight on the rear end and RWD im supprised I dont see a wheelie bar. My friend was telling me that with over 250HP those things will lift the front like nothing. Nothing in the front but a gas tank!
  10. If your using IE: Right Click then select Save-as and choose a location to save it. Open it up off your Harddrive. The Manual is 23mb and even on a T1 thats over a 2min download. Also might not have enough free memory to open the file (try closing all your applications other then IE) Hope that helps you out.
  11. T5 Trans can only handle so much power. Once your over 350ft/lb you are pushing it. The T3550 can handle 425ft/lb TKO version: 525ft/lbs. The T56 out of a 1993+ camaro can be adapted and can handle quite a bit of power. I am using the T5 and its a great tranny for street use and even though it only handle so much power its fine for me. Here is a link about Trannys for Fords if you go that route. http://66.96.130.106/archives/2002/09/transmissions/index.shtml I hope you do because there are lots of Chevy V8Z's and only a handful Fords. There is more fabrication if you go the Ford route but your car becomes a lot for unique and sometimes that makes it worth it. Also if you have more experience and knowledge about a certain engine it can make the swap a lot easier. Either way good luck with the swap. It would be cool to see a Supercharged 351W!
  12. drahgonking, You got any pictures of your install?
  13. I wasnt even aware there was a show. Wouldnt of helped anyways as I have to work weekends most of the time
  14. Well It was driven down route 10 but not 3 days ago, was mid-August when I brought it home. Probably another Red Z.
  15. I have never used POR15 on any part of my vehicle as its almsot rust free. Here are a few links that should help you out. Fellow Hybridz http://www.lambolounge.com/Body/Paint/paint.asp#POR15 A restoration of a Jaguar E Type used this product and documents his results. http://inetogether.net/jaguar/021103.php
  16. any progess being made on this? From what I have heard from everyone John Washington is a great guy to deal with and I am willing to pay more for a good kit and the quality we know we will get from you. I would love to see a Gnose Kit with ZG Flares and 432R spoiler. It would be nice the gnose was the same 5 piece design as the original so if part gets damaged you dont have to buy it all again. Regardless of as a package or single items I really hope you offer this for sale as I would rather buy from John then deal with Showcars or MSA.
  17. Great headers. Vancouver Island doesnt have any inspection process. Though transferring your vehicle from Ontario to BC registration will require a inspection to get registered (though its only a mechanical and safety inspection. Vancouver, BC (Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD)) has a emissions testing but will never pop your hood just tail pipe test. I am interested in how he is gonna pass as well as the way they inspect your vehicle is the information they have on file. Interested to see how the standards for a 2.8L compare to BBC. Not sure how you could get a BBC to run cleaner then the L28. Keep us posted on progess.
  18. There is no manual but quite a few of us have done the swap before. If you havent already try a search as you can find some good info. Also Terry Oxandle's website http://www.zhome.com/rnt/FordPower/index.html has lots of good info. Albert Silveria sells the crossmember to install the 302 into the Z and has a good write up on his website http://zcar.netdojo.com.
  19. I took some photos hopefully these shots have what you wanted. If not lemme know what else you want a picture of. I uploaded photos to http://zcar.netdojo.com/geoff/
  20. I will take some pictures for you when I get home from work in about 4 hours and post them up on website. Nice thing about digital camera
  21. Eprom = Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory The EPROM stores the software and will need to be reprogrammed not sure about TPI but I know LT1 peeps are using Tuner cat or you can just get someone else to reprogram it for you.
  22. Hi everyone, Im new to the board. I have been lurking around here for a while and doing my research and planning for my project, but didnt have a Z to work on till now. I am the new owner of member 'alsil' 1971 Datsun 240Z. Al was kind enough to give me his old webspace so I will soon be making my page over there http://zcar.netdojo.com[/img] I finally got it exported out of the USA and into Canada. Its good for it to be home sitting in my garage. My current plan for the car is to get all the chassis reinforcement done (subframe connectors and strut tower braces). Pull engine/trans/interior and diff, rebuild the diff or try to find a 300ZX R200 LSD. Get the car painted and new weather stripping all around. Get power brake booster and get AC compressor and all the rest of goodies, and see what I can do to improve the HVAC of the Z (anyone have any ideas?) I read about people using LTD fans, but still not sure in this area. Wiring is a absolute mess, so Im probably going to go with the Universal Painless wiring harness and rewire everything. I already have a alright stereo to throw in to provide a contrast to the exhaust noise. Anyone have any luck getting rid/minimizing of the exhaust fume problem? Its pretty bad (typical 240Z) and anything I can do improve it would be great.
