  1. rudypoochris: You sure your not experiencing Clutch Chatter?
  2. I have weatherstripping from Victoria British on my windshield and the fit wasnt very good, which (IIRC) is the same stuff MSA uses. You may want to Contact Dan at the Zshop in Surrey BC. Last time I was around there he had a bunch of NOS Nissan Weatherstripping.
  3. My Z has 240SX Mirrors installed. They are bigger then stock, but provide excellent visibility. Can be seen in this old picture. http://www3.telus.net/gmhoward/102-0293_IMG.JPG
  4. Warning: Long Post I've probably have to fix this type of problem a couple times a day at work. Its called a Browser Hijack and can be really annoying. Hijack This is the best program for removing this type of spyware but if your infected with this then you more then likely have some more spyware you dont know about. What I do is as follows... Sometimes Spyware will hide itself in the temp files in your system or create new temp files folders and store info in there. I would also Check add/remove programs as some minor spyware you can get rid of it by simply doing a uninstall. Download these programs in Normal mode since the computer is working well enough to post here it should work well enough to download these. Update them all, and dont even both scanning or removing anything in normal mode. Ad-Aware SE Spybot Search and Destroy CWS Shredder HiJack This Restart the Computer in Safe Mode (F8 when booting) Delete all the temp files (locations varry depending on Which version of windows your running, If your running XP/2000 make sure you do this for each user account. C:Documents and SettingsUser AccountLocal SettingsTemp C:WindowsTemp C:temp Delete all the temporary internet files (Open Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Delete files, Delete Cookies. You will have to re-enter all your passwords etc you had saved unless you dont delete the cookies. Scan the Computer with Hijack This (most importany for this type of Spyware) Hijack this works slightly different then the other programs in that it doesnt just find stuff that is spyware but also legit stuff so you need to read what each item is make sure its spyware before removing. It does backup stuff so if you accidently remove something you werent supposte to you can restore the backup. If you post a log of whatever Hijack this finds I can tell you what you want to keep and what you want to remove. If you want to tackle Hijack This yourself some guidlines are 04 - Generally speaking spyware gnerates random names to load on boot as well such as C:windowssystem32ifgsxta.exe or Anything loading from a temp folder (listed above) BHO (02) (Browser Help Objects) are generally spyware unless named something such as Norton, Adobe, Google, yahoo etc... DPF (Downloaded Program files) you can delete if they are legit or not you just may be prompted next time you go to a website that you need to redownload a plugin etc.. R1,R0 - Delete anything it brings up, This is just your user settings for Search Page, Home Pages etc... You will want to reset all these anyways. HostFile Entries - Delete anything found Any questions let me know. If the system is still acting up you can try Spysweeper by Webroot (they offer a 30 Day demo). One of the top rated by PC Mag etc.. but costs money for more then 30 days.
  5. DatsunLover: I have a Early 71 240z (vertical Defroster lines in rear glass) build date 2/71 and it has steel headlight buckets. I wasnt aware of them ever coming with Fiberglass parts stock. The Headlight buckets are stock because when I sanded them down it was the same factory color as the rest of the body.
  6. I read hybridz while at work and am lucky that my boss also owns a 75 280Z and doesnt mind. I show him videos and what not that people post and he thinks its awesome. So it's not a problem at work for me. -Geoff
  7. If you notice as well the rear wheels have no caliper or anything. I had the car on jackstands and wanted to take the pics of the car sitting at ride height. So in a hurry to take pictures I put the tires on backwards. I am taking the door and window mouldings, door handles and bumpers to get powder coated in a few weeks so I should have some pictures of that when it's done. brianglawson: The 5 Lug setup is your Z31 Hub, Vented Rotor, Toyota 4x4 and the rear stubs redrilled to the bolt pattern. drftn280zx2+2: I didnt paint the engine bay. I figure I will wait untill the motor dies and then I will just do something similar to what 80Lt1 just did with his engine bay. This is also my only car. I live very close to work and I can easily just bus or bike there.
  8. Ordering Parts from Ross (Modern Motorsports) to BC is about the same as anywhere else. Shipping costs are low, but you have to pay GST 7% and PST 7.5% tax on everything. No Customs/duties are charged. I dont really have any info on the Datsun/Nissan meet. My Z car will probably not be ready for the show, but I hope to attend.
  9. Wow. Thanks for all the complments guys. The front airdam is not painted same colour as the car as I want the black to go with the black pillars, door mouldings and mirrors. It really looks alot different in the sunlight, and I dont have any shots of it outside yet. Im waiting untill I can get the brakes finished so I can roll it outside and get some nice shots, since it's too steep of a hill outside. The front airdam is one Victoria Birtish sells made from Urethane for a 240Z. The Powersteering is a Mustang Power Rack & Pinion. Its Al Silveria's setup on http://zcar.netdjo.com
  10. I recently had my 71 240Z painted. Color code is 1999 Porchse Metallic Fortest Green. It is a fairly cheap paint job and has a few imperfections, but overall im happy with the way it turned out. Since being back from Paint I have installed a Painless 18 Circuit Wiring harness and am currently in the process of changing all the weatherstripping and windows. Tell me what you guys think. I am young (18 years old) and my first time doing this kinda work. After first coat of etching primer, it has been wetsanded down Back Home all Painted
  11. You really need to do all of the mentioned above, (Run a up to date virus program and do regular windows updates). Spyware isnt as easy of a problem. Like mentioned earlier some of them you need to clean the registry. The problem also is that I've had with quite a few system's is that you can run ad-aware (by Lava-soft), then Spybot (by PepiMK) and then SpySweeper (by Webroots) and all of them will find something even after cleaning registry manually. So if your system is acting funny I would do a spyware scan, but dont rely on one program. I run all 3 spyware programs on my system, usually the system is clean and no problems, but once in a while Spysweeper will find a spyware object that the others dont pick up. There is no 100% program that will get rid of all spyware. Norton 2004 is getting better since it can detect some spyware/dialers but it doesnt do the best job of removing them. However lots of people just run AntiVirus software and think they are protected. Running a firewall will also help stop worms/trojans from infecting your system. Also some of the real bad spyware hides themself in Temp files on your system that they will re-infect the computer and appear to be innocent temp files. So Make sure you delete your temp files often.
  12. I would be in for a Shirt and a couple stickers.
  13. Just wanted to update everyone on my project. The latest edition of mods were -Subframe connectors from 2x3 0.125" wall thickness Steel -Repaired Rust in Floorboards, Frame Rails -Undercoated car with POR15 -New Sound Material (Bquiet, and Vcomp for Firewall Protection) -3.7 R200 LSD, Z31 CV Joints -Painted Brake Calipers Old Rusted FrameRail Rust Repair/Subframe Connector Subframe Connector welded to rear frame Pics after first coat of POR15 Bquiet Installed on Floors (the rest of the car is done as well, just dont have pictures uploaded). Also Dash has Dashcap installed, Front Urethane Airdam installed, just finishing up some body work, and I hope to have it in Paint Jail by the end of the week. I got lots more pictures but dont want to post to many to be fair to any 56k Dialup users.
  14. I have them both as well. I tried to upload it, but dont have enough free webspace to host it (size is about 25mb). If someone would like to host it, I would be glad to upload it.
  15. Some info on re-keying your locks http://zccw.org/Tech/Body/Re-Keying.html This is what I paln on doing do my Z soon, these secure locks are about as good as you can get, without shaving door handles/locks. http://zccw.org/Tech/General/SecureDoorLocks.html
  16. That was so funny. Mat73GNZ, Here is the direct link to the video Audio: Windows Media Audio 9 32 kbps, 22 kHz, stereo (A/V) 2-pass CBR Video: Windows Media Video V8 Time: 8m 52s Bitrate: 259kb/s http://media.hugi.is/hahradi/fyndnar/STAPLERFAHRERKLAUSDERERSTEA-1.wmv If your still having problems, I would try visiting Microsoft Windows Update, and installing the latest Windows Media Player 9 Codec's. Windows update can be found at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
  17. Mike Gibson (goes on hybrid by "scca") has a really nice 280Z convertible. His website is has some info on his car http://www.fonebooth.com/convertible.html http://www.fonebooth.com/convtstory.html http://www.fonebooth.com/convt5linstall.html He probably hasnt updated his page in a while, as I saw his Z couple days ago and he was running 18's with some HUGE brakes and his 5.0 motor swap etc... You could fire a email off to him, but I was asking him about his car the other day and he said he used quite a bit of TR7 parts.
  18. Just change the address in your Address box in Internet explorer (or whatever web browser your using).
  19. What I found works decent is to find whatever forum or search you want. Go to Page 2 of the search (for some reason it seems to make a difference) You will get a page such as http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewforum&f=1&&topicdays=0&start=25 Then I edit the last number to a higher number which moves you forward in the list of pages. For example above (Chevy Forum) If you change the last number from "25" to "225" it will bring you from page 2 to page 10. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewforum&f=1&&topicdays=0&start=225 I think the last number is related to number of threads? I am sure sure on this but it seems to have worked for everything I have tried it with. Again its not a exact number but will be able to get you to where you want to go faster then going page by page. Hope that helps you out.
  20. I ordered a Airdam from MSA on Feb 28/04. About 2-3 weeks ago I sent a email to them asking what was taking so long. Within 2 days I recieved a call about some trouble processing my order, I phoned them (Sales Rep: Sal) and have yet to hear back from him, after leaving several messages on his voice mail (He seems to NEVER be in the office) I got fed up. So bottom line for me was - They take WAY to long to process a order, and dont contact you or bother to return your phone calls. I realize they cant stock all their body parts in stock, but taking about 7 weeks to do nothing, then for me to contact them and they tell me, there was problems processing my order. Shouldnt I have been contacted if there was problems? I shouldnt have to wait to contact them to find out there was a problem. So now the part is ready to ship and then another almost 2 weeks and it still hasnt shipped out and I havent recieved any phone calls/email from them. I ordered the part from VB last night. I can say that I will never order any part through MSA again unless I can locally go pick it up in California. I am suprised to hear bastaad525 say that they ship promptly - because that sure hasnt been my experience. Maybe they treat people in California differently then us Canadians.
  21. I was in a similar situation to yourself about 1 year ago. I was pouring time/money into a vehicle which I wasnt really interested in. I am also young (18 years old) and my parents had concerns with having a car that was very fast, however most of there concerns were regarding street racing. Several kids I went to high school with, died street racing and I cant tell you the effect that coming to school and sitting beside someone and then them not being there because they decided to push the limits can do to you. Your dad probably did do his share of street racing in his day and is probably just concerned you could end up being one of those now empty seats in school and a statistic for the government. You probably need to think about what you intend to do with the vehicle because if its a daily driver and you have a quick car you will be tempted to mash the loud pedal from time to time. However, When on city streets you need to exercise care and realize it is NOT the place to go fast. Go to the track, get a instructor and learn how to drive the car to your limits, as many skills a instructor tells you are valuable on/off the track. I was taught how to drive by my parents, which is difficult to take constructive critism from, so the instructor giving you tips/advice hold more value not just because they are certified but also because it is someone who you are not familar with. It sounds like you have some good contacts with your uncle and you have some good skills for interior. Remember the three T's (Time, Tools, Talent). You will need all of them or lots of money to pay someone to do the work. While a nice interior is a good thing to have, if your on a budget you may have a hard time wondering why you spent all that money on your interior on a car you cant drive because something broke and you do not have enough money to fix. I also agree with Wheelman, dont rule out post-secondary education as you can do well without post secondary but the facts of the matter are that not to many people with Degrees are making minimum wage and stuggling from pay check to pay check. Also your dad can be correct about a Hybrid car. The Zcar (especially the 240Z) was not engineered to handle the abuse many of us throw through them, and because of this we are constantly forced to upgrade and improve parts. There are many examples of a well engineered Hybrid Z's but a vehicle is a total package. Not to many of us would be comfortable in a 2400lb car with 350HP with 30 year old worn bushings, suspension, brakes, chasis etc.... So while a engine swap is a good way to get more power, the extra power is no good if you can't get it to the ground. There is no way to use self control on the while im at it syndrome, as you start ripping apart your car you may find problems that you didnt even know existed, which means more money. The most imporant thing I would say is if you are seriously interested in a HybridZ and there is no changing your mind. Shop around for one which offers you exactly what you want at the best value, because if worst comes to worst you can always sell it and if you got a good deal on it you should be able to get most of your investment back on it.

  23. You most likely got a COD charge of $21 for Brokerage and Taxes. You can find the info on the UPS website here. http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/select/receiving/customs/fees.html $21 USD is the charge for items between $250-$1250 US Dollars. That price does not seem that bad, to bring items into Canada from the united states we have to pay http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html So for the same $1250 USD value Which is about $1600 in CDN dollars we have to pay $59.55 CDN plus PST and GST (14.5% in BC) of the value. This is a very common practice what companies such as UPS do is they offer low price land rates (Standard UPS) for Suppliers in the USA/Canada who need to deliver goods across the Canadian/ USA border and don't charge the Supplier for the Brokerage Fees that they are going to charge the Receivers in Canada/USA for these goods. On the UPS website it explains "For Standard To USA shipments, UPS Brokerage services are available unless otherwise specified by the importer. The Importer is resposible for all brokerage charges, duties and taxes at the time of import." If your items were shipped out by ANY method other then UPS Standard such as UPS Worldwide Express PlusSM, UPS Worldwide Expre***M and UPS Worldwide ExpeditedSM shipments they include routine customs clearance. This means you don't have to specify a broker -- routine customs clearance is built into the rates. Hope this clears up the $21 fee. -Geoff
  24. Kirkz: You probably want to read over Alsil's website, http://zcar.netdojo.com as it has some good info on it relating to the swap. Al is a good guy and I am sure he could answer lots of your questions. However lots of these topics have come up here before, so I would search the Ford Forum. Also unless Al has started another vehicle it is going to be pretty difficult to see his Z in person as it now resides in Vancouver, BC (Im the owner, Al sold the car to me July of 03). There is a "brain" for the EFI, but like JoshB said the wiring is fairly simple. There are several good pages on Mustang EFI, I found http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.htm to be a good resource. Here are some other links I have bookmarked for EFI info. http://www.mustangsplus.com/tech/efi/ http://www.ford-trucks.com/articles/5liter.php http://www.acc-electronics.com/cloud/tc_auto.html http://www.centuryperformance.com/fuel.asp http://users.ev1.net/~gbuzek/index.htm http://www.geocities.com/mstngmtt/Mustang/mustang.htm http://www.painlessperformance.com/manuals/90518m/90518mhome.htm#startmanual http://www.ronmorrisperformance.com/06tech/index.html http://members.aol.com/dvandrews/ems.htm http://www.acc-electronics.com/cloud/tc_eec.htm http://www.off-road.com/ford/bigbroncos/tech/massair.html I think I have some more links somewhere, but cant find them. If you have any questions I am sure someone will be able to answer them. There are not too many Ford members so sites like corral.net are a good resource. The 5.0 is a popular engine to swap (not just into Z's) so there is plenty of information on swapping and your Z Specific info can all be found on hybridz.
  25. I ordered 70sq feet on Brown Bread and 13.5sq feet of Vcomp from b-quiet.com yesterday. I chose Vcomp because this is what manufactor said I still am not sure on what I am going to use for Heat sheilding, but I will figure that out at some point. My stock firewall stuff was in such bad shape I was not given the choice of keeping it. It looks as though some parts may be visable but since I am redoing all my carpet its not a big deal to make a bigger peice of carpet to cover these areas.
