Good Morning All, I have been out of the "Z" scene for several years now. Had a baby, changed careers twice and moved 3 times. I am finally getting settled back down here in Austin, Tx. I pulled my 78 project out of mothballs and I am in the process of RE-starting AGAIN my 2nd V8 car!. This time I will get her done. I look forward to getting caught back up and it is nice to see alot of familar names still here. I can still rember when this site was initally set up and there were only like 6 members, I was #4... things sure have changed and grown in 4 years. My hats off to all the "founding fathers" that have kept things working and growing over the years. Anyway, it is nice to be back and on the "upswing" of life. I can say that life throws many curveballs and if you keep it real and NEVER GIVE UP things WILL get better. Just dont give up hope! Myron member#4 BACK IN THE SADDLE

Good Morning All, Installing any of the aftermarket suspensions "kits" that you can order out of the street rod mags or large mail order houses?.. I am looking into both front and rear kits of all types... I havnt quite made up my mind yet on the rear being solid or IRS. Just looking for input.. Thanks, Myron

Hey Mike, Go for the change brother!. I too was with a company for 6 years when I quit. I have since been through 2 jobs but I have recently discovered a much easier way to make money! I am currently selling Computer wafer type machines. There is a ton of money in it and it is a very interesting industry. I sold a Phillips Scanning Electron Microscope as scrap the other day in 2 hours time and I made 1000.00 bones! I have another thing that is going to revolutionize the auto alignment industry.... I will post a new topic about that one to see what kind of feed back I get.... Myron

Big block experts...... question for you
MYRON replied to MYRON's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
The block does have the 2 extra bosses for oil pressure guages. Any referance to what the "HI-PERF" is supposed to mean?. Did GM ever use forged parts in their BBC's back in the day. The casting on the heads indicates that it is nothing special but they may be off a different motor. they are of the "peanut port" variety. Myron -
Hey guys, I am working on a BBC project. I looked up the casting #'s on this motor and the book says that it is 74-76 BBC "2 OR 4 bolt main caps". It is currently in a vehicle and I cant drop the pan yet. I also noticed on the bottom of the block near the oil filter the words "HI PERF PASS" does this mean that it was from a hi performance passenger car and that it has 4 bolt main caps...... From what I know about GM cars there was NOTHING noteworthy performance wise from 74-76.. They were all pretty much dogs. Any insight would be great..... BTW: if this motor is salvageable it may go in my 78Z project. Myron

That Holley blue is NOISY!!! I was running around the same horsepower/rpm in my 355 SBC. I welded in a sump in the tank and used #8 AN fittings and 1/2 inch aluminum tubing up to the front of the car then I had it "T'ed" off at the regulator with #6 AN lines to each side of the carb. That was probabaly overkill and you would probabaly be OK with #6 AN and 3/8 lines all the way from tank to carb. Myron

Holley doublepumper - what do these symptoms mean?
MYRON replied to Heavy Z's topic in Fuel Delivery
You may also want to look at your accelerator pump. You may have to change that out or maybe change the little "cam" that actuates it. I think there are 3-5 different colored cams that change the timing of the "squirt" in relation to throttle position. Myron -
Hey guys, I am looking to rebuild this old carb but I am having trouble decifering which model it is. I used to have an HP4150 so I know that one pretty well. Which casting # do I need to be looking at on the body of this carb? It has different sets of #'s in 3 places. Myron
-
I guess I was off on the "t" part of that!... Doing a little looking around and the "t" means it is a "tall deck" block. Myron
-
The "P" stands for "passenger car" and more than likely is a 2 bolt block with the small port heads. If you find one with a "t" that means it is from a truck and chances are better of it being a 4 bolt block. Myron

Unfortunately it wasnt real exciting though. I was heading home in my very tired 97 TA LT1. I see this silver car zooming up behind me and when he got next to me he down shifted and put it to the wood. We were on the Autobahn(toll road) but trafic was too heavy to stretch them out. We mostly just jockeyed back and fourth. End result was I think I would have been able to pull him a bit on the open road but we just didnt get the chance. I was pretty impressed with the car though. I dont know how many of you guys have LT1 Fbodies but the ones that do know that they pull pretty good on the highway and that little 350Z was right there with me. Myron

Just a quick glance will verify if it is out of an Fbody or an Impala SS.. does it have aluminum heads? the Impala's had steel heads and the Camaro/TA have aluminum heads.. Also look on the bottom of the timing chain cover for a crank trigger sensor. If it has a plug around the 7 oclock mark looking from the front of the engine it is probabaly a 96-97 model.. if it does not have the crank trigger it is pre 96. Myron

Hey guys, I am looking for a little info. My brother just bought a STEAL OF A DEAL on a little 240. I will spare you with all the details because it makes me entirely too jealous to talk about! The car is titled as a 73 however the ID plate says 10/72. The car has AC and Carpet which is what I am curious about. It appears that it was a dealer installed option because it is very professioaly done and the carpet is a perfect fit. I am wondering if any of you know any place that I can get more info about these options. About the car... I just cant help myself! The body is straight with only a few door dings and minor rust. The frame rails are PERFECT and there is NO rust and no curb damage. All the trim and rubber is soft and in great shape. The windows are all original and no dings in the windsheild. It has the original skid plate on the bottom front with no damage either. The tranny is very firm. The suspension is stiff. The carpet is excelent other than a small bad spot in the hatch area. It has 103,000 original miles and it was garage kept. We found gas receipts from the last time it was driven... 8-89' Suprem fuel only.. It has been in a garage ever since. The bumpers are straight with only a few specs of rust that should polish out easy. It has the original keys that are not worn. The seats dont even have any tears and they are pretty soft as well. The dash only has 2 cracks and the clock even works. The only drawbacks are the minor rust, the tank is gummed up and the carbs need to be rebuilt. Man I could go on and on! Needless to say I am very jealous... OH.... LESS THAN A GRAND! Myron

I am with Jamie, I have a 97 LT1 Fbody and it is an all day job with a lift. You have to remove the freaking alternator for the ones up front on the passenger side and you have to have a Lift and ALOT of patients to get the ones on the back of the motor. It would be faster to drop the motor and front cross member all in one shot to do the plugs. I have worked on alot of cars in my days and that one was by far the WORST! Myron

That is a cool video clip! If you look close, they even went into the detail of the taxi's suspenion collapsing and the shadow of the car changing at impact and the breaking of the car. I had never seen the movie so I was really looking close to see if the clip was live or memorex! Myron

This may sound even crazier than the previous post. I had a 78 that I stuck the motor and tranny in from an 82 model. After doing so, I had a bout 4 wires that I coudlnt figure out what they were for. the car would do exactly like you say: start, idle fine, rev to 2k then hesitate real bad... My dads solution was to have me switch the ENTIRE wiring harness from the 82 and graft it into my 78... I did it(like a dummy)!! I went to start the car and I got the same problem... I spent 3 days leaning over the car trying to figure out the problem.... then my buddy came over and we were both leaning over the car scratching our heads.. I am trying to rev the car past its 2K "barrier"... My buddy held his hand over the air cleaner inlet and BAM it ran like a top. He want choking the car completely, just restricting the airflow. Turns out it didnt have a filter in it. When I installed a filter I never had another problem. I guess the airflow meter needs a little restriction for it to work properly. Just plain weird!!! Myron

There is a guy that used to hang out on this board alot named Stan Carpenter. He was working on one, but I lost touch with him along time ago. You may use the search engine and look under "carpenter". I know he had a pretty bad accident also and you may look for some old post about the accident that he had. You might be able to find his email address that way. Myron

JTR aka "Jags that Run".... -
Thanks Guys, We are in the process of cleaning all the connections to all the sensors and injectors right now. We also found another parts car for 75.00 and we will be getting that one as soon as the weather clears up. The car was running fine when it was parked because of a perceived battery failure. The kid got a new battery and attached the terminals backwards and fried the computer. It has been sitting there getting vandalized ever since... Myron

Mike, Thats great to hear! I am sure things will work out for the best. Myron

Hey guys, My little brother bought a 79 that needed a little work. He has it back together and running BUT it is running rich as a pig. He replaced two of the temp sensors in the waterneck and we have played a little with the cold start valve. Any suggestions were to hunt next? Myron

I think that we are a little off on the original url name though. I have owned the url "v8zcars.com" for many years now. Unfortunately I have not put it to good use because I am not that great with computers. I purchased the url form Register.com and they have since changed/sold out to some other comapny that is impossible to get a hold of and avertime I try to login to maintain ownership it takes a month of emails to get it done. I remember it was February 2000 when Owen, Superdan,Pete,Mike, myself and a few other migrated from a small forum to the one we all know now. I think If you look at the profile of the guys mentioned you will see a member # and a date when everthing was kicked off.... Too bad I didnt find the forum sooner, I could have saved a ton of money!!! Myron member #4
