  1. http://jubjub.mine.nu/wbparts.html I just ordered this kit, assembly should be pretty easy (as opposed to a megasquirt board). I also ordered a premade LED display unit at $42 and $23 for the kit. For the O2 sensor, this unit only uses the expensive type, but you can get a cheap used one of a civic, the is a link to wich one.... I will post an update after i test it. The total should be about $100, and best of all you make it yourself (and it should not be hard).
  2. WOW! mother of all rambles Well time being valuable I only read the first few sentences and the last few. As I said, the reason for the post related to your ATTITUDE in your responses to people who posted in the spirit of helping you, not your lack of knowledge (you criticized people using standard basic automotive terminology instead of asking politely or reading or doing a proper search), obviously you do not get it. However, I will admit, you are consistent, still have no idea what you are talking about, my real name is Afshin (hint, there are other languages asides from English).
  3. A faulty AFM can cause your described problem, but more often it is a bad connection, so clean the connectors first and foremost Adjusting the timing is very simple, however if you don't know something as basic as that, than perhaps helping you online with any thing specific may be too difficult since it would require numerous tutorials on how an engine, EFI, ignition works and where things are located.... Again, you do need a certain amount of background knowledge for effective communication on a forum. I would suggest you read a book or some articles. How to adjust the gap on a plug, what ignition timing is and knowledge of basic tools (not complicated equipment crap like that, as you poorly put it). Don't blame the person who is not explain to you what an engine or ignition system is. You still owe them a thanks for trying to help you. Have you heard of the search function ? Again do a search, I have no idea how you came up with 3 grand and no way to give a recommendation if you don't have any basic concept of a fuel injection system. You are actually asking if an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is comparable to a modified ECU, cobra MAF and larger injectors? Come on, that question is so far off base than IMO it does not deserve a response. BTW, if you are wondering why I' going off on you, it's not that you just don't have a concept of what a car is. It's because you answer harshly and are critical of members trying to help you. Your tone suggest they it is our duty to fully explain everything to you as opposed to appreciating ANY and ALL thoughts that people take their valuable time to share. So unlike most members who post a thanks after getting advice, you have the nerve of complaining that you where not spoon fed (e.g. no one was able to tell me…, The guy who told me to gap the plugs couldn't even explain…..,. Furthermore, you don't know how to use the search function and you ask questions before thinking and doing basic research first. Here is another example jgkurz said “It's probably pre-ignition from running plugs that are too hot. Try the NGK BPR7ES or the even colder BPR8ES and gap to about .030. The -11 plugs are for gaps over .030.†you responded: no, I already WAS running cooler plugs!!!! Now IMO that’s plain rude. Your post asking for help did not give any info on what was done or checked on the car and then after using the word probably and giving good advice on cooler plugs, you responded harshly. Now since you like to be spoon-fed here is an example of an appropriate answer: thanks, good thought, but I forgot to mention that I already had new and cooler running plugs. Get the picture ?
  4. Great advice, it's a must do, it causes this kind of erratic running all the time. Make sure you clean both ends (ECU and sensor) of every connector in the EFI harness.
  5. What is the timing on your set up?. I would not keep it over 20 degree, more can easilly cause detonation even at 12 psi (when running stock EFI). Also as mentioned, 14 psi is too high for a completely stock fuel system and stock pressure.
  6. The diameter of the hose is indeed the limiting factor as pointed out. However, it flows more than one would think because of theres is positive pressure on th j pipe side and significant vacuum on the other end which increases flow velocity. I'm aslo running a DSM BOV as boost is set at 17psi, but I would not worry about it until the car is intercooled and boost is turned up above at least 10 psi.
  7. Oh sure, nit pick on poor me on a Sunday morning before having had my cup of coffee. Potato vs potaatoe; inches vs cm; pressure vs vacuum, coming vs going... all the same anyway, right?
  8. It's only a small amount air for a brief period to relieve the pressure surge. It has been working fine for the thousands of l28et's they have made, I don't see how that would be scary when it's proven to work. It also has the benefit of letting out the pressure very quickly since it's going from positive pressure in the j pipe to around 20 psi of vacuum in the manifold, so the air actually gets sucked out.
  9. Actually, I am correct There is a hose going out of the j pipe that is before the throttle plate and bypasses the throttle plate and dumps the surge pressure into the intake manifold. If you look, there is a valve at the end of the hose on the intake that is spring loaded and opens at about 3 psi. Now when the throttle plate is open manifold pressure is same as j pipe pressure (eg 7 psi thru out), so the valve remains closed. When the throttle plate closes, then manifold pressure goes from positive to vacuum while j pipe pressure goes up, so the differential pressure across the valve greatly exceeds 3 psi, opening the valve and releasing the pressure into the manifold. The nissan engineers where not that ignorant, there needed to be a pressure relief system to avoid compressor surge. However, hardly anyone seems to be aware of this alternate system.
  10. actually the car has a factory BOV equivalent (different system than traditional BOV) that works quite well for boost up to 10-12 psi. So it does not need an aftermarket BOV until you exceed the factory system.
  11. Absolutely COOL !!! All they need now is an engine to match
  12. While high 12's is certainly achievable with stock motor, you still need a few other things to get your 260 in that range: -Intercooler -larger injectors, (you may get close with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and stock injectors). can adjust AFM flap to allow for 370cc injectors on the cheap. -good fuel pump -T3/T4 turbo (stock can get close, but may not last long, will be inefficient with high heat causing more stress on turbo and engine) everything needs to be working properly (often not the case in old cars modified on a budget). -high flow exhaust and boost controller, gauge and air intake as already mentioned -need for head rebuilt (basic) if not already done may come up soon ( I would do it first). I think more realistic with slight mods on full stock system is mid to high 13's (easy to do and very reliable). That's still quite fast, and if it all works out, (not too hard, but always more work and money than one expects) you can slowly do the rest of the mods and get to be consistently in the 12's
  13. I would also recommend 2 1/4. I'm using 2 1/4 in and 2 1/2 out of intercooler. 2" is OK for stock set up, but will be little to restrictive as you make more changes such as larger injectors, more boost....and alll the other good stuff that inevitably follows
  14. Just saw this post and smilled, I got sucked into one of these debates earlier and then quit and in my last post said that it was too anoying and had to get back to finding a LSD Well I did avoid all political forums and have been properly rewarded by not having to hold back from cursing and moreover was able to get a 3.7 clutch type R200 for $350 which I promptly installed in my car and took out for a drive yesterday, YAHOOOOOO, it feels like I can launch out of tight turns. It actally made more of a difference than I expected. Ordered some R compound Dunlops and getting ready for Sears raceway in a few weeks
  15. Hey Yasin, Didn't you know that flushing your cooling system with pumkin seeds will scrub off all deposits and improve heat transference and cooling capacity by 30-50%. I can sell you a pack real cheap for your own cars
  16. well if the misfire is slight , you won't necessarily feel it. It could also be that you have no misfire, the point is that at 0.050 you are more likely to have misfire than better spark. Off course every set up is a little different, so if you feel it works better at 0.050 in your car you can jusst keep it there
  17. You often can increase the gap size with a MSD unit. However, the factory 0.038-0.044 gap is already on the large side. Many experts feel that about 0.045 is mas size for gap and large spark. Also as boost is increased from stock, gap needs to be made smaller, the MSD can counter that by keeping the gap at about the same range as factory with slightler higher boost. So with a 0.05 gap you most likely will not get better spark and instead will get some misfire under boost. I run my car at 15psi and keep the gap at 0.038 with a msd unit.
  18. Her is a nice guide to the NGK spark plug designation, symbol meanings.. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spark_plugs/partnumberkey.pdf (also, IMO .05 gap is just too large)
  19. I will buy the DP as soon as available, so is ready? What about now? is it done yet? Ok, what about now? Sorry I just came back from a drive with the kids
  20. One needs to account for the spark plug style as well as the heat range. For example, a 7 range plug with a projected core plug (the insulator nose extends beyound the plug metal housing/thread) vs a conventional one (insulator at about the same level or below the metal housing) will be different. The projected type runs a little hotter at idle and a little cooler at high speed (more fuel being sprayed on it) which can affect idle quality in a bordeline application such as BRE8 in a Z (projected core when available is better). Also, if you change from a plug with a projecting core to a conventional core as is often on cooler plugs, you will need to advance the timing a few degrees since the the spark from the shorter plug will have a longer distance to travel. So Drax, if you already haven't you probably need to advance your timing. Lastly a good trick is to file down the earth electrode (the one that comes of the side) so instead of extending over the whole center electrode it covers only half of center electrode and to taper the end of the earth electrode. The shorter and tapered ground electrode will make the plug run approximately 1/2 degree cooler, so a 7 can act more like a 7.5 (according to Graham Bell). Perhaps, more important, by reducing the amount that the earth electrode covers the center electrode and hence spark, the flame initiated by the spark can better propagate resulting in better combustion. (when filing the earth electrode shorter and tapering the ends, keep sharp angles, since it is easier for spark to jump from a sharp edge).
  21. My understanding is that projected type nose, since they start the flame deeper in the combustion chamber, they reduce the flame travel and if anything require retarding the timing a few degrees. Also what octane are you using with the 20psi ?
  22. Yes, turbo car need much smaller TB than n/a cars. a 60mm TB on a turbo car is good for close to 400HP vs about 250 in a n/a car. An 85mm TB is good for 850HP turbo vs about 490 na. The problem with the big TB is that more air increases with small movement of the plate making the car jerky (specially in a light car vs a 4000lb sedan).
  23. Tanji, please do not take any of my example to heart, I'm not taking any sides, just trying to remind that our acts are not benign enough to give ourselves the right to bomb anyone we don't like. They do bad stuff, so do we, we do some good stuff, so do others. The initiation of military force against a country requires more than look at what they did (look in the mirror). I have no intention of defending the Iranian government (it is disgusting). However, you seem to miss the point that most of the alleged terrorist support from Iran was for Palestine and calling that terrorism is subject to opinion and which side you are on to qualify as state sponsored terrorism. I don't like what Palestine does, but neither do I like what Israel does. So, my challenge to you is not to find excuses for what we do, but to show me the number of overthrown democracies, support of dictators... that Iran has done, and how it exceeds what we have done. Helping one country does not give us the right to ruin another, sorry, I don't buy that. Also you say that Iran did worse to the US, how could you do worse than overthrowing a democracy and putting a dictator who ruled for 26 years (perhaps the people you know in Iran were supporters of the shah, I know many of them), so you/they may not think poorly of his iron hand rule and anti democratic tactics. How could you do worse than arm Saddam against you causing over 500,000 Iranian deaths. Please show me the worse atrocities that the Iranians caused us. BTW, I want fact, not report that they were linked to a group that was linked to another that did something. We directly overthrew Mossadegh and directly armed and trained Saddam. You say the terrorist experts claim Iran is a major seat of terrorism, well exclude Israel-Palestine situation and then provide me with the facts (both sides play dirty and both have causes that can be sympathized with). Like I said, didn't the expert recently tell us that Saddam had stockpiles of WMD and was developing nuclear power, yeah I trust that kind of speculation without proof. And please don't forget after you google and find something immoral that they supported (which you most certainly will, I know of some), you need to find as many as I can find about our government, not to mention the difference in death toll from committing single despicable acts of terrorism vs supporting brutal dictators over decades. Now please, I am not making a case that they are harmless and we are evil, just that looking at actions and all the things we can be tied to they can reasonably make the same arguments against us. Also, I don’t care to and certainly don’t claim that Iran can’t be tied to any terrorist group (after all Cat Stevens, that violent man, remember peace train can qualify as terrorist and a threat), I think any government can be tied to terrorists, including ours, all governments have likely supported groups who are active against their enemies. Taliban, now that was a training camp, and some other countries that I don’t want to bring up. Iran is not one of them. BTW, I have been to Iran, and as much as I will rejoice the day that this fundamentalist oppressive religious government is gone, anyone who claims it’s like being under Saddam has absolutely no clue whatsoever, and unlike much of the opinions I posted, this one is a fact. Now you can believe whatever you need to and justify our actions anyway you want, that's fine, we all do in some way. I just can't stand the hypocrisy and double standard when pointing the finger at others (this is what happens when you grow up in 3 countries on 3 continents). When we do something for our own interest or security it’s good, when they do it’s wrong, it was a constant everywhere I lived. Ahhh, this thread is starting to bother me, hardly anyone changes their opinion either way and there is no end to these kind of debates. Need to stop and find a good deal on a LSD R200.
  24. Hello gentleman Well I would like to avoid too much of whom did exactly what since it is a never ending argument. All I’m trying to do is make certain points which I fell are often missed, not to prove details of the many events that have occurred. Regarding the second link, I did not look at it closely I just used it because it was in a list format and I did not want to list all 30 or so countries in which we have negatively interfered for our benefit, I apologize if the site is not reliable> Most of my info has been gathered over many years from many sources, I just could not list them all and I was trying to give an example, not proof of any event (the link on the Iran coup is accurate, that I know). Fortunately, it seems like most agree that the Israeli-Palestinian situation is complex with wrong doing on both parts and that it can be broken down into good and bad side….so I would like to drop it, which was my point (it’s not a valid example of state sponsored terrorism when it is an ongoing and very long slow war). I just made the argument that backing Palestine is arguably the same as backing Israel, one can take sides, but you must acknowledge that both use brutal measures and have caused the suffering of many civilians. Tanji said that I was wrong about us having committed twice the number of bad actions in our own selfish interest. OK buddy, I’ll take your challenge here is my initial abbreviated list, bring yours: 1953: Iran, overthrow of Mossadegh and placement of Shah, already explained. 1954: we overthrow elected leader Arbenz and replace him with General Castillo Armas., which inaugurated a series of bloodthirsty regimes that murdered more than 100,000 Guatemalans over the next 40 years. 1960: along with Belgium we organize a coup to overthrow Zaire’s 1st democratically elected prime minister and replaced him with Mobutu resulting in 32 years of corrupt dictatorship. 1930-1965. 1930 Rafael Trujillo took power in the Dominican Republic in a coup d'etat and received enthusiastic backing from Washington for most of the next 30 years. His methods for suppressing dissent were sickeningly familiar-torture and mass murder. The US raised no objections, and Trujillo returned the favor by becoming a totally reliable supporter of US policies in the UN. In the 60’s, Trujillo dies and a physician named Juan Bosch comes to power and was dedicated to establishing a "decent democratic regime" through reforms. He was deposed by a CIA-backed coup after only seven months in office. When a popular countercoup tried to restore Bosch to power in 1965, the US invaded the island and backed/helped a series of murderous regimes which have maintained a favorable investment climate ever since. 1973: After multiple failed attempts we help end the oldest functioning democracy in Latin America by overthrewing Salvador Allende in Chili (again elected by popular choice) and replaced with the horrible General Augusto Pinochet who ruled for 17 brutal years. We helped overthrow Sukarme in Indonesia and replaced with Suharto who killed and tortured and was anti democratic 1980: we support Saddam and arm him to attack Iran resulting in the death of 800,000 to one million young men. 1989 we illegally attack and invade Panama (hundred of civilians were killed in our attack) 2003, we face multiple failed attempts to overthrow elected president Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, because of wanting to control their oil. Off course the list goes on and on….. And yes, I’m sure many have counter arguments for some of these events (some of them have no counter argument), and the point is not to debate each. The point is that on an international level, we have and continue to harm other countries in our interest. And yes, other countries try and do the same, but usually are not powerful enough to do as much. The fact remains, that no matter how much we might dislike the current theocratic government (as do now most of the people in Iran), their acts of aggression towards other countries pales in comparison to ours (we are stronger, so we take over more). What I find bothersome is not such simple facts of life (greed is a human condition), it’s the person on either side who simplifies it as well we are good and they are bad, so we must eliminate them. As I first said, I keep out of these discussions as much as I can, until I hear someone like freedomfighter on this forum or his pro-terrorist equal on the other side whom believe that they are just and should kill the evil people on the other side. Off course, even though I like John C, I was dismayed to see is view of taking pre-emptive strike against a country that has not directly threatened us in a significant manner. Remember, all countries have enemies and differing interest. If all countries were to attack anyone they see as a potential threat (different than true undeniable imminent threat), no country would be spared> We all have enemies, we all have the right to defend ourselves, why wait, start the war ASAP. It’s one of the most self righteous, supremacist and barbaric notion that I can think of. Disclaimer: these arguments are tricky and most of us get emotional, myself included. My goal is not to offend but to share perspective and tolerance, for things are seldom as simple and one sided as people think. War drums are not to be taken lightly. I have lived in France for 6 years, the Middle East for 4 and here for 27. Anyone who thinks that there are masses of people (not government) who do not wish to be free and are inherently violent has not interacted sufficiently with others. Most people in all countries truly believe that they are right and mean well (and no it’s not that you are right and they are wrong). It’s the aggressive, greedy or intolerant ones playing the war drums that cause true harm. Patriotism is great, but unfortunately is often manipulated to blind people, similar to religion. I hold no allegiance to France, Iran the US or any religion (up to hell I go, or is it down to hell? :flamedevil: I aim for a more global view. Hum.. reading back what I just wrote, perhaps I should now sell my turbo Z and get a VW Beatle with a big flower on the hood, it fits perfectly in my home town of San Francisco, or should I move to Berkeley?
  25. Hi John As I had mentioned in my post, the Israel-Palestine conflict is complex, with sever wrong doing and terrorism on BOTH sides, so why is it that support of ISrael is not state sponsered terrorism, but support of Palestine is? Again, i'm not taking sides, just pointing that IMO, you can not use this as an example of terrorism (too broad of a term). Terrorism in my opinion related mostly to killing of innocent civilians in a non war situation (otherwise all wars are state supported terrorism). Israel -Palestine is more in the war category. You say Iran has done a good job of plausible deniability, why are you so quick to believe that they are lying, while our government that lied about the WMD and nuclear threat from Saddam are to be trusted when they imply possible support from Iran without proof. How do we justify it when we support terrorist groups that overthrow democracies in our interest. I call it state sponsered terrorism. Point is we are as, if not more guilty and this is still going on. As such, I'm bothered when people simplify it as them being bad and us good and that they should be nuked and deported... For every dispecable act that they perform I can list over two that we have done. I will keep repeating this, because it is what people fail to see when getting into who did what kind of arguments. Iran 's governement is bad, on an international level, ours is as well. We do not have the right to attack others who have not directly attacked us. The idea of us calling anyone else sponsors of terrorism is a joke, since we have done it as well, we just call it looking after our own interest and matters of security (guess what, so do they). By what right to you claim it wrong if they seek to defend themsleves, but right if we do, which country have they attacked, I can name you the ones we have.
