Hi bluex, My point is that if you follow the historical facts, it is undeniable that we have been the aggressors. We put dictators in, removed democratic governments and supported wrongfuls wars and brutal regims in order to get cheap oil. The middle eastern countries did not first harm us, we harmed them. So I'm challenging the notion to those who are unaware of the history of who has been the greater victim and who was the aggressor. It is just way to hypocritical for my taste to call them evil and dangerous, when we have attacked. Iran has not threatened to attack Israel without due cause, it said if you attack us, we will strike back. Israel has not been any friendlier or civil and yet no one here seems to mind that our tax dollars are going towards their miltary and that they have numerous nuclear weapons. How is it that you grant us the right to defend ourselves at the cost of destroying other governments who have not yet directly attacked us, but find it bothersome that another country wants the ability to defend itself. I will keep repeating this, Iran has not started any wars, we can't stop finding excuses to start more of them. Now please, don't misunderstand and think that I would defend a horrible government like that of Iran's, just pointing the fact towards who is the aggressor and who might be trying to defend themsleves. You can blame Iran for questionable support of any insurgents in Iraq, but I and most of the world outside of our country places more blame on what can be considered an illegal take over of a country that did not pose a direct threat to us. We are no better and history doesnt allow us to take any claim of moral superiority. All of this mess comes out of GREED FOR OIL and then some pathetic excuse is used or fabricated as to why we need to take over another oilr rich nation. There are many worse criminals in other countries that are never mentioned, and as pointed out earlier, since we support dictators and overthrow democracies, please never claim to me that we go to another place to save innocent people from a dictator we supported. Believe it or not, we wrongfully started this and from their perspective, they need to defend themselves from further hostile takeover.

Well, I usually try to stay out of these discussions, since most have firm opinions either way and are seeking to justify their view as opposed to understand underlying issues and the history that results in them. However, the numbers of these threads have been increasing, and the pro-violent, clearly racist and ignorant perspective is becoming too bothersome. So I will attempt to provide some background for any open non-racist minds. First: Iran had a democracy under Dr. Mossadegh in the early fifties (he was Time’s man of the year in 1951). Was properly elected, and very well liked, for good reasons (non religious, non fundamentalist). As a nationalist, he felt that Iran oil profits should go to Iran as opposed to Britain which took over 80% of the profit. The Brits did not like this and took the matter to the UN and rightfully lost. They then approached Truman and proposed overthrowing this new democracy in order to maintain control of the oil. Truman said it would be wrong and turned them down. Come 1952 Dwight Eisenhower is elected, the Brits see another opportunity and along with direct involvement from the CIA overthrow a democratic non fundamentalist government and reinstitute a socially liberal but political intolerant and very brutal dictator, the Shah. In return the Shah let the US have 40%, Britain 40% and Iran 20% of the profit from it’s own oil. http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Articles8/DN_Iran-Coup-1953.htm Wow! could anyone explain why they might be pissed at us (only a moron would buy the argument that it's because we have freedom, as if that would cause hatred) In 1979 the revolution to overthrow the dictator take force, then the fundamentalist cleverly take the opportunity within the chaotic revolution period and take over resulting in a bad theocratic government. As a cry towards the 26 years of brutal dictatorship that the Iranians suffered and the loss of a democratic government because of the CIA, some students took American government workers as political hostages, but still never harmed any American civilians (however many Iranians in the US where harmed. Then in 1980, we back Saddam, give him the means to make and deploy chemical warfare against Iranians, killing hundred of thousands of drafted non fundamentalist young men (it’s not like the fundamentalist politician bastard was on the frontline). So can someone remind me agin why they don't like our government? Iran, despite having a repressive government, has not initiated any act of violence, OUR government on the other hand has done vast irreparable damage and is responsible for the death of hundred of thousands of Iranians. So who is the threat, us or them ? In terms of Al Queda and the Taliban, Iran was fighting them by supporting the northern alliance, while we had supported Osama and the Taliban. How about all the news about Iran supporting terrorist, well, unclear if it was true or not 20 years ago, but certainly not since. I don’t see how anyone without a serious bias could claim that their support of Palestine makes them a terrorist government while our much more significant backing of Israel that has caused much more death and torture and killing of Palestinians would not constitute equal backing of another terrorist state The Israel Palestinian conflict is complex and can’t be broken down to terrorist on one side and non-terrorist but killers and oppressors on the other side. It’s more of an ongoing war. So based on what is it that they are evil and we are good? By what example is Iran a threat, who have they attacked, which foreign democracy have they overthrown, how many dictators have they backed, how many wars did they start? Now to look in the mirror: We have been attacking non stop, fact remains, we have overthrown more democracies and backed more brutal dictators than anyone since World War II, you can see the underlying long list: http://www.doublestandards.org/enemies.htm So please, take a look at our own government and maybe you might realize that there is a reason that WE are seen as the biggest threat to most of the world and so hated. Perhaps it’s more complicated than we are good and they are evil (that’s as sophisticated as a 5 year old mind, or that they hate freedom). And maybe a real freedom fighter would work on taming our own government as opposed to suggest nuking or attacking entire nations with millions of innocent people. How about seeking truth and understanding the real issues instead of looking for more wars to start. Is this your idea of civilized society and democracy, kill anyone who you think could do something? If this where justifiable, then the middle east should bomb us, Pakistan and India should start killing each other now (they are threats to each other after all), Korea and china and Japan and Taiwan should all start bombing each other, because they are a potential threats to each other, too many African nations to mention... Why wait, every country should attack a potential threat, what a safe world that will be. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD !!!, you can’t jail someone who might steal, you can’t kill someone who may commit a violent crime, you can’t attack a country that may or may not attack you. Do you really think that Iran is going to use any bomb on the US? Moreover, they are no even close to having any nuclear bombs, it’s just a good way to scare good people to agree with plans to take over oil producing countries, just like they used WMD and terrorism as a way to scare you into agreeing to take over Iraqi oil under the pretence of security. Do you think enough people would have agreed to start a war just because he was another ruthless dictator that gained power thru our support? And again, before pointing the finger or arguing some childish point that they have done something wrong (ALL governments do), remember we have supported terrorists, overthrown democracies and supported horrible dictators, what give us the right to preach morals and use violence to ensure an environment suitable to our interest? OK, now that I'm done with my rant and got it off my chest, I will get back to my original intention when getting on the site and continue searching for more pleasant and fun threads related to the never ending list of potential modifications for my Z.

Thanks for the info John. I will go ahead an order a set and give it a shoot. I'm currently running the BR7es and did not notice any difference over the 6 heat range. You said that it ran a little rough when cold, do you have a msd unit or is it stock ignition?
-
Addendum: in the original write up I mentioned inserting two new pins (34 & 3) which are connected to + and - terminals going to the coil. However, reading up on the MSD unit, I realized that it is sending 500 volts to the coil (yup, that much ). So for all the people who are using an MSD type unit, in order to avoid burning out any of the circuit in the ecu, you should use the original 12 V wires going to the coil (they are the two wires that feed into the msd unit) to power pins 34 & 3 and not the wires comming out of the MSD unit (500V) to the coil.

The fuel rail should not affect the efi, stock or modified. Fuel delivery depends on fuel pressure (unchanged) and injector size and pulse time. Of course inadequate fuel flow from to small a rail for the application can cause problems. Bigger fuel rail or increased fuel delivery (better pump...)do not affect fuel flow thru the injector and do not make the car run any richer. I'm also using the JSK fuel rail, which both works and looks great (I was using it with stock and then modified EFI).

Talk about luck, boy if that could only happen to me. How about I double what you payed and take it off your hands -
What determines if a certain pressure is high or not is the probability of mechanical failure associated with it, not the amount of pressure used by a friend with a great car. The point is not that an injector can never handle 100 or more psi as a definite rule...., but that the incidence of failure becomes significantly high. You certainly seem creative and as you said the car is running nicely. My point is that you are running a very real risk of injector failure (I know it's working right now) under full sustained boost, which will only take a fraction of a second to blow the engine. People with modified vipers, supras, skylines...blow engines ALL the time, even though the car could have been running great for the last year before the event. Trust me, when you push the limit of fuel delivery on high boost applications, failure is very common, people just don't talk or post about it as often as they do the dyno sheet.... As mentioned by Scottie larger injectors would be a much better choice. And no, you do not need a stand alone injection, all you need to do is adjust the spring tension on the AFM to compensate for the larger injectors, real easy to do, do a search and you will find info related to it. Jersey is one member who has used it quite successfully. Anyways, I'm just sharing my opinion and was concerned because I did not know if you relied on the car or if it an expendable toy as you mentioned.
-
FYI: many injectors fail past 80-90 psi. Apart from overheating and failing, it has been verified that injectors many be unable to open when psi is in excess of 90. Point is you are playing with fire and are closer to blowing your engine from lean condition than you may realize. If you already know this and are willing to accept the significant odds that the injectors and hence engine may fail and don't mind an excuse to rebuild your engine, then keep on enjoying the rush (otherwise consider keeping max psi to 80 and turn down the boost a tad, and yes, I know how hard it is to do).

I'm on my third turbo Z/ZX all with 83 turbo engines (130 to 200K mileage), some actaully claim that it's the best engine. Regarding the hydraulic lifters, yes, they don't make them anymore, so you can't buy any new ones. However, failure is quite rare and they have the plus of not needing adjustment and being quieter. I personally prefer it. If you want to switch to a new performance turbo cam, a non hydraulic pre 83 set up might be better so you could install new lifters with the new cam, but again, in general, the turbo cars don't need a performance cam until you start going over 400HP. Lastly you could always resurface the rockers if need ever be.

What is that A few people at the Nissan design studio may need to get fired and look for alternate careers (along with anyone who approves it for production). But that's just my biased opinion. -
Spoiler is on, and I love the "small of her back."
Afshin replied to blueovalz's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Outstanding and gorgeous. The effort in fine tuning the design, attention to detail and quality are all highly evident. You really should send some photos to some of the specialty car magazines, I'm sure they will want to do a story on your work of art. Look forward to seeing it in print -
The 7M-GTE project looks absolutely great. I used to have a turbo mach III which was slightly upgraded and loved it despite the massive weight. That engine done up in a Z should be amazing. Smooth, powerful, torquey and breaths very well. Are you planning having some duplicates of the mounts made ? it's such a great engine and there are so many of them in the junkyard, I imagine the should be some people eager to get them. It think it should hold it's own against a RB-25 and will cost only a fraction of it. Best of luck completing the project.

Need a 280ZX Rear Camber kit
Afshin replied to zcarnut's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I used the kit from motorsports. it allows for movement of only one of the control arm mounts (per side), so you can't adjust camber and toe independently. So, I intalled two kits, allowing adjustemnt on all four control arm mounting points and hence seperate camber and toe adjustment (however, it is a pain to install on the inner control arm mounting point, I had taken the whole crossmember out which made it easy thereafter). Here are the links to the company and instalation guide. You can check and see if they still make it or if MSA is no longer getting them; http://www.specprod.com/PROD_DIR/PROD_PASSCAR.HTML http://www.specprod.com/PROD_DIR/C_PROD_passcar_INSTALL_DYN.cfm?cmd=85720ins.txt&cmd2=85720 If they don't have them I would just slot the crossmembers as already suggested and then after having it alligned use some paint to mark where the bolt is relative to the slot so you can periodically check and make sure it has not slipped (one of mine had moved a little and I just matched up the paint and retorqued it) -
Which set of Wilwoods to go with?
Afshin replied to Cody 82 ZXT's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I put my adapters on dry (without teflon ..). no leaks I needed two M10 X 1.0 female to male adaptors and two 5-3 steel brake line union fittings. I got them from portefield with my pads (they knew which fitting to get), the porterfield part numbers are 410103 and 481503. I also got the R4S pads, which are great on the street and have been holding up quite well on the track, at least with the large brake kit (I believe they might just be so so for aggressive track use with the stock set up). I will get the same pads again. Also another significant benefit of the porterfield pads for the wilwoods is that they have them for the rear stock 280zx calipers, the same is not true for the other popular pads that I looked into (hawks, wilwood..), so you can get matching front and rear pads. -
So I Got My ZX Turbo Professionally Appraised..!!

Hey Yasin, I'll pay you full blue book for your car, no haggle, no hassle. Actually, I have been meaning to do the same with my after work toy for some time now. Thanks for posting your figure, it gives me a reference for my car. -
Which set of Wilwoods to go with?
Afshin replied to Cody 82 ZXT's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hi Cody, Your choices for the 3.5" mount as already mentioned are the discontinued superlite IIa (some places may still have some in stock), the new forged superlite and the NMDL. The forged units replaced the IIA and are stiffer and better, so no reason to get the IIA. The NDL is smaller as the name implies (narrow mount), so good for small wheels, otherwise it uses smaller pads than the forged superlite, so I would not get the NMDL as my first choice. I also spoke with a multitude of technicians at wilwood and other sites and got a very uniform recommendation for the forged units. Off course, any of these calipers will work great, so you really can't go wrong. I smile everytime I bring the car down from high speeds. Lastly, like Phantom, I had excessive shudder when I first installed the set up, I had to check twice to make sure that nothing was loose. Bedding in the rotors properly will be very important for this set up, much much more so than in stock pads/rotors. There are several nice articles on brakes on this link: http://www.stoptech.com/technical/ Also read the article in there called The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System. -
The wires run from the ecu to the coil in addition to the previous wires going to the coil. Do not cut the original wires going to the coil, the car won't start. Regarding the 300zx coil, I put it in my car because I heard it's a better coil and was very easy to do (payed $5.0) for it. I don't know how much of a actual difference it makes.

...IT'S ALIIIIVE!.............IT'S ALIIIIIVE!........
Afshin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
HI, glad to hear it's running. double or triple check all the connectors and pins to make sure all contacts are good, no vacuum leak .....they are the most frequent culprits for hesitation...... Start with the timing set at 20-22 and play with it from there. Lastly, are you running the old repaired previously burnt ecu, or is this a solid unit ? -
Regarding impedance: High impedance injectors will work in a low impedance system and should not run lean. There will be a very small delay in opening which is unlikely to be detectable. However as usual it is best to fully match the system. So the car will run without bypassing the resistors, but probably better to bypass them. Low impedance injectors will run with proper fuel delivery in a high impedance system, but the higher current flow will overheat the coils, often causing injector failure with prolonged use, so dropping resistors should be placed.
-
The reason I did not mention pin #114 for the ecu memory is that it is already there in the 83 280ZXT harness, so no modification is warranted. I don't know if the same is true for a pre-1979 model harness. If not you can always add the wire/pin.

Datsun..1.......Porsche..0...Moment Priceless...A Great Pic!
Afshin replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Thanks for the compliments. It should be no surprize that I have that photo as my desktop background, makes me feel good everytime I see it This was at Thuderhill in northern California, great track. The car in the background is indeed a Ford Fairlane, belongs to a nice young guy who did lots of mods and put in a real stiff suspension, so was doing a lot better than one would expect, but still way too heavy. The 87 Porsche turbo had just passed him then I passed the fairlane and then overtook the 944. The owner was also a nice guy and came by after and asked if the car was stock, I said yup all stock and 21 years old After he said he did not realize they could move that way I told him the truth. I also overtook a 94 rx7 twin turbo with massive wheels and a late model 911 (was hard to do, picture under my signature) and then a 370hp modified audi S4 that belonged to a not so bright guy with no driving skills (so can't take any credit). Off course after overtaking some other nice cars and feeling like a king someone with a little more track experience and another 911 GT3 whooped my a$$ ; twice bringing me back down to earth. Can't wait to get back to the track, just got a pyrometer to help fine tune my suspension (I have a little too much understeer). I need to get better sway bars and tires as well, let the games continue. -
the timing profile of the turbo ecu would probably make the NA car run slower (retards timing as engine load increases to account for increase boost pressure). Would not recommend changing the ecu.
