The cruise control cable on a ZX attaches to the throttle linkage near the firewall. The throttle body has absolutely nothing to do with it. You could use any throttle body you wanted to and it wouldn't matter as far as the cruise control is concerned, provided you kept the original linkage intact.

If it happens again, you'll probably find a hole in the side of the block with a rod sticking out of it...besides that, you'll probably have a vibration from a now unbalanced rotating mass. That's about it. I happen to have a set of STOCK 86mm pistons here if you need them...Brand new with rings and wrist pins. I've also got a new set of LZ22S 87mm pistons...neither are forged, but they're available...

Welcome to the wonderful world of DETONATION... What you have there is a piston with the skirt broken off...usually, but not always caused by detonation. When the piston is on it's way up, and gets the shock from detonation of fuel igniting before the intake valve closes and the plug fires, it gets rocked in the cylinder. Due to the clearances between the cylinder wall and the piston side itself, the skirt gets broken off when the piston actually gets cocked in the cylinder. The bottom edge of the skirt being the farthest part from the wrist pin, it gets broken off... I found 2 of these in my oil pan right after hearing the popcorn sound of PING. Check your oil pan real well, even between the bottom of the pan and the baffle in the rear of it, you'll find it. Here is a pic of one solution...omit the skirts on the next set of pistons. Stock ZX Turbo Piston on left...Custom ROSS piston on the right. No guarantee against detonation, but at least you won't be breaking skirts off should it happen.

"Thanks guys - Although I make mods to get the car to what I want it to be, the opinions of this distinguished forum are always a great sounding board. Nice to have your work and taste/choices validated." Rick, NICE NICE work...and I couldn't have said the above better. Too many people forget that they're building/modding a car for "themselves"... Looking forward to seeing it at SEZ6...I know you'll be there. Warren

It's a 24meg video presentation...give it time to load. The links appears to be working, but patience is a virtue. Suggest you just Right Click and Save Target As... -
I can't say that there aren't any car sales at SEZS, but without a large swap & shop area, it's kinda hard to sell much of anything there. You're certainly welcome to make offers to purchase vehicles there, from whoever wishes to sell theirs, but as far as a formal sales area or even a show area for that matter, there isn't one. Perhaps in the future we can get enough volunteers to run something like a swap & shop area, but in the past, help has been short. Bring your money, see something you like and try to buy it. You may find something that you like that you can negotiate for. That's the best advice I can give you... Warren

CLICK <----(or right click and save as) Contains music, so crank it up too. Some of you may have seen some of this already...if so, sorry. BTW, only the body kit itself is fiberglass, the rest is all steel... I'll have it fired up and running some time this coming week. Ready for the big "DONE" stamp.

Parting out a nice 280ZX Turbo, 280ZX guys in here..
Warren replied to a topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Guys, there are people needing parts that have listed them in the "Wanted" section of the classifieds. I'd suggest checking there every now and then. You might move a part or two and help somebody else find one at the same time. Just a suggestion... Warren -
Well, that answers that. Thanks. Guess I'll be looking into changing my plans as far as which tranny I really want to use. I do however, like the 700R4 because of the shaft bearing in the rear. I guess it really doesn't matter that much though. I'm sure the gearing would matter more. Warren

INFO: Ok, For the flex plate adapter, contact WILCAP...they have the pattern already on file, will provide the flex plate adapter AND the Chevy Blank (without the starter ring gear, you use the stock auto flexplate too) for $165. I just got mine a couple of months ago... The part is NOT listed in their catalog, so you'll have to call them about ordering one. (Sorry for the two horrible pics below) Torque Converter Side Flex Plate Side A Special Thanks goes out to James Thagard for taking the initiative to get these parts made by Wilcap and TCI, as well as providing the pics below. TCI has the bellhousing adapter already made as well, but they're a bit too proud of it for me. I have a friend with a CNC machine shop who is capable of making it for me, so I'm gonna try to go that route first. Tranny Side Engine Side IGNORANCE: (Mine, that is) Now, for the ignorance part. Why would you use a 200-4R instead of a 700R4? Doesn't the 700R4 have the tailshaft bearing whereas the 200-R4 does not? Also, aren't the 700R4's more readily available (and cheaper)? Don't flame me here guys, I'm in the process of getting the bellhousing adapter fabbed to put the 700R4 behind the L28 for my 82ZXT project. Warren

Kinda reminds me of Jerry Lewis (in the early days) -
tfreer85... Thanks, the exhaust cut out wasn't an option. It's the picture, and really doesn't look all that bad in person...different strokes I guess... Sparks280zt...Thanks, I didn't either till I saw a pic of a white one and really didn't care for the black & silver 2 tone anyway... wigenOut-S30...Thanks, In due time...in due time... Scottie-GNZ... Thanks, From a man of few words, "WOW! Nice." means ALOT... Kracker_Jax... Thanks, I like it too, and that's all that counts, right? I and a friend who is a body man with 43 years of experience did all the work. 85+ hours of metal work and welding just on the rear end... Confused... Thanks, Me too... Clayborne... Yes, that is the MSA Style II Body kit, bonded on with 3M Panel Bond, and moulded in with Fiberglass then coated with Evercoat. You can just about stand on it without cracking it. VERY VERY STRONG... Mike Kz... Thanks Mike. It's getting there... BillZ260... Thanks, takes alot of work, but it CAN be done... DaleMX... Tried to find decent ZX Taillights...couldn't get a nice set. Decided to look for basically flat panel mounts that didn't look like 18 wheeler lights. 05 Mustang came out and I said, "That would look neat"...and voila! DavyZ... Thanks, I wondered about that myself, but in person it does look QUITE different. Gabe is right, they are 3" tips and it only looks wierd in the picture. In person, they're quite large enough. It's just the angle of the pic and the fact that the front end is off the ground a bit in the pic, putting the pipes closer to the ground... Frank280ZX... Thanks, it's not a race to get it done, just happens to be that time for me. Still have other things to do, but cosmetically, it's finished. You'll get there...just keep plugging away... Oldestzguy... Thanks, I'll remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...Good luck, it wasn't a weekend project, but it CAN be done... drftn280zxt... Thanks...that's what I was looking to achieve...something clean and not obtrusive, yet replaceable with new parts should the unthinkable happen...I'd kill 'em... wigenOut-S30... Thanks for the explanation, and you're right...dual 4" would look ridiculous... DavyZ... Thanks again, and it IS the picture, and the fact that the car is on wheel dollies up front... Drftn280zxt... It's the angle of the picture...remember, the front end is raised a bit and trust me, this design IS complete...heck, it's already painted... Brad-ManQ45... Thanks Brad, you're not supposed to expose the signatures that make it truly one-off... frank280zx... Posse??? I'll beg your pardon...but yes, flush DOES look much sleeker. FINALLY, Caught up...WHEW!

What do you get when you cross an 82 ZXT with an 05 Mustang? Yes, it's REAL, NOT a Photoshopped picture. (although the picture really doesn't do it justice)...

OK, here's the latest. Pete's Mom and nephew have been located. They're SAFE at a hotel in Baton Rouge. Pete is now aware of this. Also, on a side note, Forrest, in Baton Rouge, ran across someone going passed Slidell on his way to Ocean Springs, MS. Forrest was thoughful enough to ask if they guy would bring Pete some supplies on his way through. The guy said he would, and DID. So Pete has now been resupplied with food and water, thanks to this. So a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Forrest. WAY TO GO!!! Warren

Fill in your profile, so we know where you're located and I'll consider putting prices...Kinda useless to go through all that if you're in East Bumfart, Egypt and it would cost more to ship them then they're worth.

Those look Zactly like my FUGLY rims. They're made by ENKIE...I've got a set here, with autocross tires on them...they're only 8" wide rims though. see: You want them? They're in EXCELLENT shape. Let me know. Warren

Last night, I put a message on NOLA.com requesting information regarding Pete. This morning, I woke this morning with a voice mail from a Mr. Rodriguez, an apparent neighbor of Pete. The message said that "Pete is OK, he's at home, with no power. If you can locate his Mom, please call him". I returned the call to find out that in fact, Mr. Rodriguez's wife is friends with Pete's neighbor. They have physically seen Pete. He is alive and ok. Unfortunately, Pete's mother, who is a manager for LaQuinta Inn in New Orleans East, hasn't been heard from yet. I've enquired with LaQuinta Inn, through their emergency numbers, and was told that "Those people were evacuated BEFORE the storm, but we don't know exactly where they were evacuated to.". Having been to Pete's house in the past, and knowing exactly where to look, I've been exhaustively searching the satellite photos of the storm damage. Pete's house did NOT flood. According to other reports on his subdivision from eye witnesses that have been through it, the only damages were wind damage and trees down. That is all the information I have been able to obtain, so far. I'll post any updated I find when I find it. Warren

Help! I Want a new custom license plate for my car
Warren replied to qwik240z's topic in Non Tech Board
Yeah, BYECOPS would be about as attention getting as: DONUTS Which reminds me of the kid with the Mustang GT who had the license plate frame that read: FASTER THAN SMYRNA POLICE till they impounded his car after clocking him at 100 mph in a 45... -
I'd hate to be the locksmith that got THIS call....
Warren replied to MrWOT's topic in Non Tech Board
At least the appropriately named Officer reported... Cpl. H.D. Wood IV said the man reported that a friend put the lock on -
I DO realize that he said "directly bolt on", but keeping an open mind is always a good thing too. Just letting him know that there ARE other options if he chooses to get the 700R4 for a cheap price.
-
If 240 Turbo (James Thagard) can put a powerglide in a 240Z, then the 700R4 should fit as well. The 700 is larger, but in the ZX, there "should" be enough room. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=89740&highlight=powerglide There are lots of parts you'll need, including a new shifter, a new driveshaft, a bellhousing adapter, a flexplate adapter and blank flexplate, a TV Cable assembly and you'll need to move the tranny mounts, but it more than likely CAN be done. I'm collecting all of the parts right now and only lack the, VERY expensive for what it is, bellhousing adapter at this point. I should have the 700R4 in my 82ZXT before too long. Warren

Yep, bought them from the local Ford Dealer, wholesale (they're one of MY customers) about $40 a piece...but the metal buckets they mount in are about $70 a piece, again wholesale...the harnesses were $33 a piece...then there was ALOT of metal work to do. The buckets are welded in and sealed, no fumes for me folks. The license plate was frenched in and the rear panel is actually cut from the side of a Ford Aerostar Cargo Van. ALL CUSTOM Metal work, NO fiberglass, NO Bondo. It's being primed and painted right now and should be done within the next week or so.
