  1. I recently took the dash out of my 75 to re do the interrior. I have now put the dash in and everything is wired back to how it was (or so i am hoping). My problem is that now i have no working dash lights or brake lights. My blinkers did not work prior to having taken apart the interrior as well but I am not sure if it is just a burnt bulb or a part of the issue that I am having now. My headlights do work though. The passengers side seems to be going out though as it is dramatically darker than the drivers side and there is no high beam. So I guess I am looking for some advice as to where to start looking? I am going to go and try and make sure I have all the grounds properly in place. As far as that though I do not know where o look besides fuses, which mine are fine. Do any of you have experience with this problem and know how to fix it? I seriously suck with tracking down electrical issues.
  2. Also, the fusible links may LOOK good but even when they are good they still are mediocre at best when doing what they are supposed to. Especially after 30+ years of work. Mine looked perfect when I replaced them.
  3. I had the same problem...its the fusible links. Its not letting your battery get the charge and your car is running off the battery and once the power is gone, well, its gone. I went through 3 batteries before figuring this out. Your car will jerk and it will act as if it is missing or not getting enough fuel, but in reality is because your battery is shot and doesnt have enough power to run the car properly. For a temporary fix, replace the fusible link wires and probably replace your battery. For a more permanent fix, do the maxifuse fuseblock upgrade to replace the fusible links and either charge or replace the battery. I havent had a problem since I upgraded and my car actually runs smoother than when I bought it.
  4. I doubt that disconnecting those wires did anything to harm the electrical system. But it does seem odd that the wires fried once you connected the battery. I agree with doing the fusible link upgrade and i can vouch for it solving some issues with the charging and electrical system, but i would not assume that this mod would fix the entire electrical problems of the car. Doing the upgrade is a good step in the right direction though!
  5. I purchased the same spray kit as you did. I bought it back in November but have yet to use it. Now that I am in a place where I can paint it though, hopefully I will put tem to use soon. How well did the guns work for you? Also I do not have a compressor as of yet and am in the market to buy one. I wantto get one big enough to spray the car but not one too giant seeing as I am renting and will hve to move it again eventually when I purchase a house. What size compressor and tank would you suggest to run these guns? I know I could search and find my awnser but I figured I'd shoot you the question since you have used the exact guns that I have. Thanks
  6. Personally, I would go with the dual block and run the wire from the starter to it. The problem the fusible links has is getting the power back to the battery and the wire back to the starter helps insure that it does (I believe). If have the whole situation figured out correctly, then I believe if you run it without the wire from the starter, then it negates the purpose (for me anyways). Hope this helps.
  7. Well it is official, I'm joining a group of you guys that I hve envied for quite some time. In about 4 hours from now I will be moving into a new place that has a 2 car garage!. Now I know this may not seem like much to you guys with your own shop or multiple car garages, but to me it's awesome!. Haha. I've only lived in places where the z has been in an uncovered driveway or crammed in the back yard on top of weeds and junk. The only way I could work on it was to move it to the driveway and have the job done in one day. As most of you know, rarely every does a repair job only take one day on our cars. So anyways I've been limited to only minor work on the z and my project hasn't had much progress. Granted that now this new place will pretty much take up a bunch of my extra money, but to have a covered garage to be able to work on my baby and do it right will make it worth it. Sorry if this wasted any of your guys time, I just had to vent my excitement with my fellow hbz guys since I'm stuck at work until 6 am.
  8. When I did my poly upgrade I went through the same thing. I searched and searche (to no avail) about it but found nothing. The only thing I can suggest is make sure that you have BOTH the correct bushings. IIRC there is one longer and one shorter bushing and if u have them mismatched you will get the gap. It was a while ago (about 7 months) when I dd mine so I could be mistaken, but I believe that is what fixed my issue. Edit: to clarify what I mean, I had the two shorter bushings matched on one side and the larger ones matched on the other side of the control arm. So one side seemed too long and the other was too short. They don't really look all that different in size until u look good and well at them. Hope this helps.
  9. It seems like the 3938 style number 2 might work. I was JUST looking at this today but cannot recall what the edges look like for the life of me. When I get a chance I will take a look.
  10. So I went to replace my latch mechanism in my door that I thought was broken. After an hour or so I gave up because I really did not want to take the whole door apart. Once I got it put back together, for some reason I decided to twist the little plastic adjustment screw coming from the outside door handle. After I did this, whadayaknow, my problem is fixed. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it was not the mcmaster-carr weatherstripping that was the issue for my problem. I still have not addressed the issue for it not sealing completely on the drivers side though. But overall I am pleased so far with it.
  11. You can get a 280z if you want, and still have it smog exempt. You just have to find a 75 and only a 75 is all. Lol
  12. Cutlass372- thanks for inadvertantly giving me some info that I needed! Lol. I got the same kit that you did ad I have only the rear done an not the front. I didn't know if it would make much of a difference if I did the from or not since they aren't as bad as the rear was. Good to know that when I do do them that it'll help out a bit. I know the steering is kinda sloppy on my car right now so hopefully that'll help tighten it up. Again I also agree on just gettiNg the full kit from summit. Unless you are swapping most of the suspension this kit will come in very handy. It's one of the best 160 bucks that I've spent on my car so far.
  13. Turns out that the car was not a 77 it was a 76. So I got them and do not have to worry about them fitting since I am pretty positive that they will. Thanks guys!
  14. Its leaking in the middle of the door at the top. Im going to work with it and see what happens and if I cant finess it to fit then ill look up that link you sent t-bone. GeeZ- As of right now I do not have the funds to spend that much on the seals seeing as I am moving at the end of the month. If worse comes to worse I will just buy them when I get the money.
  15. I got that same bushing kit. I am very happy with the purchase. I would say go for it, since buying all the bushings you need separately will probably cost more in the end. It doesnt hurt to have more bushings than you need.
  16. Yeah I have been looking for a 280zx NA trans but I cant find anyone local or within a few hours drive wanting to sell one. Every time I go to pick n pull the trans is either gone or its a 4 speed. I'll just have to be patient i suppose. My 4 speed is still really strong and the syncros are nice and firm so its not like I desperately need one to be able to drive my car. I have a buddy that has a 240sx that just got totaled. If he plans on getting a whole different car I am going to try and get the power plant outta that from him just for the transmission, since it was a front end collision. I found a few on craigslist just now but one is only a parts car and I cant take it since i am moving at the end of the month. The other has a stuck gear. I have no experience on transmission repair so I'm going to have to pass that one up as well. I'll just have to keep my eyes open like everyone else I suppose. haha
  17. I meant for gas mileage on the freeway. Also so that way I'm not at around 4500 to stay at 65 or 70 on the highway. I'm perfectly fine with the gas mileage on regular roads but I have heard that keeping the revs that high for any extended amount of time is bad for the L6. I do not hot rod the car at all, I just do not want my freeway driving to kill the engine and was wondering if the trans out of the 85 would work is all since I can get it pretty easily and for cheap. But now that I think about it more, you are right. I guess there's a reason that it isn't covered much. I didn't think about it being a V6 before posting. (dumb move on my part i know) Lack of sleep and the thought of an easy score clouded my judgment. Sorry for the dumb quesion.
  18. I'm not sure if you checked it already, but I had this problem when I first got my Z and it turned out to be water inside the throttle positioning sensor plug. Once I narrowed it down and disconnected the tps, it fixed the issue. When i dried it out and reconnected it, the problem was fixed.
  19. I have tried searching but I cannot find a straight answer. I found a 5 speed from an 85 300zx at the local pick n pull and I was just wondering if this swaps into a 75 with the stock l28e. I have the stock 4 speed in it now but I really want a 5th gear for the gas mileage. So does this swap or would I need an adapter and different driveshaft? Thanks
  20. Well I installed the Mcmaster-Carr weatherstripping today. As was stated earlier, I ordered 25 feet of it. It did not work as well ad i had hoped. First after installing the stripping, I noticed that I now have to slam the doors to get them to close all the way. This cause my latching mechanism on the passenger side to break. So after running to pick n pull and getting super lucky and finding a 76 in the yard (where i got a passenger side latch and managed to score the carpet scuff plates I have been looking for) I come back to test the seals. I only tested the drivers side since the passenger side is not fixed yet. I turned the hose on and put it on the roof, assuming that its raining straight down I guess. The seals work perfect down towards the bottom of the door where I had problems before. Now, however, I have a problem with it leaking at the top of the window. If I press on the window to make it closer to the seal then it does not leak but as soon as I release it, it begins to leak again. I will try to modify it so that it sits closer to the window, but Im not sure if it is going to work. Any of you guys have an idea of how I can fix this? P.S sorry I do not have any pics for reference. It seems as if my camera chose today as the day it would die as well.
  21. I am in the market for a pair of the Plastic scuff plates that hold down the carpet. I know they have them available at many online sources but i dont want to shell out 60 dollars a piece for them. Thanks guys and gals.
  22. I am "technically" a Basement cullet handler at Gallo Glass company. Yes the same company that makes all of the Gallo wine bottles that you are drinking from, and MANY of the other wines that you drink as well. It's a glorifed job title for someone that drives a forklift beneathe a bunch of glass modling machines and dumps big bins of molten glass to be recycled for more glass. It's not a glamerous job but it pays the bills and enables me to pay for school to study administration of justice so I can one day work in the juvinile justice system.
  23. I officially stand corrected about my comment about Mcmaster-Carrs shipping. The package arrived today after having ordered it on saturday. They took the funds out this morning as well. I was a bit more than I had planned but thats because I also ordered the sound deadening material from them to see how it works. It was substantially heavier than I thought so that explains why the shipping was more than expected. VERY fast shipping though and I am very pleased. I will update everyone on how well my purchases work.
  24. well they have yet to take the funds for my purchase so i doubt that my Shipping will be as fast as yours. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow.
  25. Tbone-028, thanks for the reply. I ordered the weatherstrippig on saturday. It SAID that it should ship today but they have yet to take the payment out or give me a shipping confirmation so we shal see. Thanks though and when/if I recieved it I will see how it holds up against rain since that's the reason I am replacing mine. Actually my car has no door weatherstripping at all so my floors were like fish bowls when it rained so this will be an upgrade for me no matter what.
