  1. HAHAHA you wouldnt beleive how many people stop me and tell me " hey son you know that exact car was my first car in highschool". Thats my little green monster, it will go 6.9 in the 8th at 97 mph on all stock suspesion and 8 inch slicks. James
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4644462481&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT Check it out James
  3. Was suprised to see that Hans made the trip down to San Diego to run his sbc twin turbo'ed 240z at one of our street legal race events last night. That cars worth the admission just to see it run. Simply awsome car and really good guy. I was able to see it make what i think was a 6.30's pass, leaving with the front wheels in the air. James
  4. I bought a 73 vega about a year and 1/2 ago and have been building and racing it since. It has about 60 passes on it now. Im gonna be taking the motor back apart and going through it and doing some work to the heads and putting a new cam in it. I was hoping somone could give me some input on what cam to get and anything else for it. As of last night the car has went as fast as 7.49@93mph in the 1/8 with a 1.60 60ft. Rearend is a Don Hardy 12 bolt with an original GM posi and 3.73. Control arms have all been boxed. I have an original Monza swaybar on the rear and I use 26x8x15 hoosier slicks. The transmission is a th350, nothing special just a transgo shift kit and a 3000 stall converter. The motor is a 400 small block, steel crank, 5.7 powdered metal rods, hypereutectic pistons, edelbrock performer RPM heads I beleive they are 68cc heads and are bone stock right out of the box, harland sharp 1.5 rockers, the cam is the holley system max cam 235/240 duration 490/490 lift, msd 6al box with a 6200 limiter, msd electronic distributor, 850cfm annular discharge mechanical secondary holley carb, headers are hooker supercomps 1 3/4 primary, 3 inch exhaust with a set of 3" JBA mufflers. Ive got some parts laying around that im pretty sure im gonna put in the car. I have a 4000 stall that will most likely be going in it. I have a new set of 4.10's for the rear. 8 point cage will be going in within a week. When i pull the motor apart im gonna have the heads ported and polished new rings and bearings. But I dont know where to go with the cam. I know I want to put a solid roller in it but not sure what.
  5. If its a original large journal 327 than im pretty sure its a factory steel crank which is good and should take some kind of beating. Also if it is a large journal crankshaft than you can use 350 rods, you can usually find a set of powedered metal rods off of ebay pretty cheap. I have been using a set for a while in my 400 race motor and they havnt gone away yet. Not sure what to tell you about the wrist pin though. Never really heard of people having that problem, I have put alot of motors together with pressed wrist pins and no problems with them. If it was my motor I would do it with the stock setup, but thats just me. I always want to see what a original small block will withstand...which i have found is to be more then what people usually think.
  6. Im putting together a small block chevy for my 72 Z and a buddy of mine gave me an oil pan and pump setup. Its a B&B P/N 128-91088 I beleive it says that the sump is 8" long, will the clear the front crossmember underneith the motor if I am usuing the JTR kit? Thanks
  7. man that first backfire I would have let up. Is that the 2jz motor in it. Badass car though.
  8. Headlight buckets are in real good shape. PM me James
  9. Well i got around today to getting the car and starting it up. Motor doesnt seem to be in to good of shape, it has a rod knocking pretty bad. It does have the 4 speed. Clutch and everything else feels pretty good. It has a set of real US mags on it.280z seats that would need to be recovered. The hood is in real good shape (Z-tard). Rear hatch is in excellent shape. Let me know if you want it. I took a bunch of pictures. Im gonna part it out and whatever is left of it will go to scrap. I'll ship stuff if people want things. Also let me know waht pictures you want posted. James
  10. Right on, I listen to some of the videos and it sounds like some of those guys are probably running turbo 400's too. James
  11. Not sure about other people but i think that turbo'd rotorys are some of the coolest little drag cars around. I frequently check this site out and thought I would share it with you guys. To watch some of the videos you will have to make a user and password but its free and well worth it. Tell me if you would keep your foot in it in some of these passes these guys are doing on 8 inch slicks? http://www.fullboost.com.au/video.php
  12. I will check it out and get back to you.
  13. Yea i guess i should have put that in. I live in San Diego CA. James
  14. I came across a 1975 280z and im pretty sure that im gonna part it out. Im gonna take the whole r200 differential out but i have a r180 to put back in it to keep it a roller. I dont have a title to the car so thats why im gonna part it out unless somone would want to buy it as a whole. Somone had sanded down the body and rattle canned it grey. The interior has been taken all apart. Original L28 with the fuel injection, 5 speed. If anyone is interested I will have some pictures of it this weekend. Let me know if you want parts off of it or if somone wants it as a whole. James
  15. Thanks, I had been down there a couple of times looking for other stuff and was peeking in and around some camaros and firebirds and didnt see any 5 speed stuff. I'll have to make a trip down there next saturday and check it out. As for the whole world class thing? Should i look for one of those or do you think the regular t5 will last behind maybe 350hp. I had to get rid of all the parts that i had got from you when i moved. I didnt think i was going to want to build another v8 Z, if i had of then i would have hung onto all that stuff i got from you. Do you still have any stuff laying around that you want to get rid of? I remember that Z that was in your garage, what happened to it? Running?
  16. Just wondering? http://www.myspace.com/rustorbust
  17. Dont know if anyone would remembe me around here but i thought I would ramble on here for a little bit. I built a 240z with a sbc 400 in high school, immediately got hooked with z fever. Bought a 280z basket case right out of high school thinking of turning it into a v8 daily driver, never happened and sold it. Went for about 2.5 years without a Z. Built a sbc vega that I race on the weekends now. Have been looking for a another z that was in good shape body and interior wise for quite a while now. Found some more basket cases and turned them down and last week i racn across this one...... I picked it up for 1500 which i thought was a smokin deal. Interior is almost perfect, body is excellent. It had been sitting for about 3 years so it took me a little while to get it started and find out that the clutch is totally gone it in. And Im a holley guy and not to familiar with the SU carbs. Can somone explain to me where all the adjustments are at and why there is what i think is motor oil in the tops of the carbs. Also i know many others here have done the sbc swap. I want to put a T5 behind a 327 that i have sitting in my garage. Can i just get the bellhousing, tranny, slave cylinder out of say a 88 v8 camaro and it should work. Feels damn good to be back James B.
