  1. So take the alternator to get tested?
  2. Ok this is just pissing me off now. The car died a while back and I thought there was a short but I replaced the battery and all was well. Now the battery stopped holding a charge again so what is ruining my batteries? (third battery I have been through, drives one day and the next the battery won't hold a charge, put a new battery in it and the car fires right up) What is destroying batteries?
  3. Can get the vacuum in that tiny hole. I will see about borrowing a compressor...
  4. Trying to pull plugs to check em. But there is a ton of crap in there. Fir needles and dirt. How do I get this stuff from around the base of the plug out before I pull the plug? Is it going to be really really bad if I get a few fir needles in the hole?
  5. Well I was told new plugs and wires and stuff were done when I bought it. Since then it has sat around for 6 months and been driven about 2 months. Just this past week its been getting bad at idle and now ever bad while running. I did do an oil change and rear main, including a full tranny and clutch swap. So I guess its time for plugs and cap and rotor...
  6. Hey I am just wondering if this is just a sign of needing a major tune up. 1984 300zx Turbo It is idling and running like crap. I started it up tonight at work and it sat there warming up fine but as I pulled out of the parking spot it started to just spit and loose all power and I finally got it into high revs and got it moving and it was fine until I turned off onto my road where is completely died in the middle of the road and died about 4 times within 200 feet. It barely started back up to get up my driveway...
  7. Ok so, 84 turbo, only when I first start it up for the day. It used to just idle fine and then sputter when I tried to give gas until it was warm. Now it starts and idles fine for 10 seconds then by itself starts idling really rough for 30 or so seconds and then pops back to normal idle for 10 then back to bad, ect... Giving it any gas almost kills it or makes it worse while it does this. I pretty much have to play with the gas until I get the engines rpms up and rev it high then it almost settles back to normal without the going back and forth between good and bad. Then I can barely get it to back out of my driveway and then it will go forward fine but every time I stop and let it idle again it has a nasty lope in the idle. But after I get to work I park and after I get off it starts and runs fine back home...
  8. Lol, I got an auto cuz I was in need of a car asap and didn't have time to wait for a stick to come one the market. Anyways, it starts fine and when I start moving either 5 MPH in a parking lot or 45 on the highway it suddenly starts sputtering and RPM's flutter and it dies then starts right back up. It only dies in parking lots and just flutters and looses power temporarily at highway speeds. I think fuel pump, and I am starting to wonder if its the pump or just me driving like a madman and it getting air bubbles? So going to work today (4 miles one way) it barely made it there but as soon as I pulled into the parking lot it was fine and fine on the way home all the way... So maybe air bubbles in the line or is that even possible?

So I got the car running but now my subaru is about to **** out on me, so can I either drive my Z without the dash and intrument wiring harness plugged in or do I have to plug in the harness while the dash is out do drive it? I was thinking I could just put the turn signal levers and steering wheel in and drive it.

  12. I pulled my dash to replace a few things including the wiring harness. So on the old one and the new one there are a few wires without connectors so what are these? Also what is this and how do I get it to unplug?
  13. I was going for the custom Z3R Springs on my 84 300zx Turbo, with Tokico Illumina's. Now they are discontinued so I am looking at other options. Either the Tokico Springs or B&G's or if I can find them some STRacing? What would be best for daily driver/semi preformance? I already have the Tokico's but what springs should I get?
  14. So I dropped the battery from my Subi in and it fired right up, I am going to go get it replaced as soon as I get into town!
  15. Where I am at is my 1984 Turbo has been sitting for months since a week after I threw a new trans in and everything. It has a new battery and a new starter and the alternator is tested fine, and new battery cables. So I hook up jumper cables, sit for 15 minutes and when I turn the key the engine barely inches a tiny little bit. When I unplug the jumpers I watch the gauges dim and go out all the way in about 5 seconds. So the battery won't hold a charge, before when I was messing around I got it running and it ran and stayed running fine, but now I can't get enough power to make it turn over. So what I need to know before I rip into it is, bad battery even though its new, bad wiring, bad sensor or relay somewhere, what? This just magically happened out of the blue, it worked fine after I got the new trans in and then parked overnight in my driveway and next morning its dead and won't start. Can anyone help me at all? I have scoured the forum, I tried the clutch switch, and a few other similar issues but still nothing. My next step is to re-test the battery for holding a charge and then to replace the engine wiring harness. Jeff
  16. I should know this but I have been out of the Z car thing since my car stopped working. So call me odd and insane but I really want a set of old school American Racing Vector's on my 1984 300zx Turbo. AKA these - American Racing RIms I Want. So maybe they will stick out like over an inch but will they fit ok or would some kind of fender rolling/shaving hubs be required? I would use the 15x7 and I think those are 0 offset, then just stock 215-60-15 tires. And anyone know of someone with them on a z31?

  19. I have two relays behind my battery in the fender, one is green and one black, they have different plug configurations and have the same part number. Uh, how do I go about replacing these with the correct ones? One or both of these relays is faulty so I can't tell which one it is.
