  1. The height and width of the FE is going to make it very hard to install without a lot of extra work (steering linkage, and hood for one thing), and then you've got the WEIGHT!
  2. Any pics would be nice too. In the mean time, we will stay tuned.
  3. I know I'm late in adding my comment in here, but this is exactly what was happening with mine, UNTIL I finally got the air out of the system, and it was not easy. No gunked up parts on my car either. Once I got the air out, it worked great.
  4. Consider also that it may only be the gelcoat that has the cracks in it. If this is the case, a sanding to remove the gelcoat is necessary (then rebuild the gelcoat thickness back up). If the cracks go deeper, then I'd suggest sanding (disk sander works good here) it as deep as possible without going all the way through, and then build it back up with cloth or mat sufficiently so to finish it with block sanding, primer, and paint. It's not hard work, just a bit messy.
  5. I concur. the large amount of offset and that heavy caliper frame says it all.
  6. As usual, you come up with something worth looking at.
  7. Reminds me of a pair of pants I had back in '69.
  8. That's one problem I've never had with the OEM Datsun single track differential. In fact, this charateristic of both tires leaving nearly identical marks (on testing) is one of the main reasons I went for so long without an LSD.
  9. Nice work. I like the approach you used on the deepened drip rails. A fresh approach to an old problem.
  10. The HICAs equiped SX has the VLSD, which I've personally never seen (a lot rarer here than where Z-TARD is) in any salvage yard yet. It is as Z-TARD said, the shorter, stubby R200, and basically the same configuration as the 300ZX differential (last model). My 240SX has a 4:11 gear ratio, which I understand was as standard ratio.
  11. My "Auxilary" Z is set-up specifically for re-living the "Bullett" movie scenes here in down-town Little Rock. It's powered by a B&S 7hp motor (to keep the weight down on the front for those hard impacts) . Of course, the high speed runs are done with the "Primary" Z (which is a clone of my Auxilary Z -Blueoval1 and 2 as they are named) which has the 289 V8 in it. Bet you guys didn't know that, did you. Seriously, I've had to pry inserts out of good tubes due to rust on the inside. If they are bent, I'd want them out and replaced anyway.
  12. I'm guessing that IF you bore the threaded sleeves, they would be too thin to use safely. I would first find out the ID of the threaded sleeves and see if by chance they will fit you 280. I have a 240, with coil-overs, and the threaded tube ID is a bit larger than the strut tube OD (I had to weld small "nubs" at the upper and lower part of the strut tube to ensure the threaded tube fit snuggly around the strut tube. When I received these tubes, I assumed, from a standardization point of view, that "one size fits all" approach was used in making these tubes from the manufacturer.
  13. To my knowledge, there are only two spline counts that work with the traditional 9". A 28 (common) and the 31 (high performance). The 28 will work in just about anything other than full-out competion. I ran the 28 spline axles in low 13 second full bodied (and weight) Mustangs and never twisted or broke one.
  14. Just unbolt the "pumpkin" (this includes the pinion gear with it) from one 9" housing, and stick it in the other's housing. No adjustments needed until you start swapping the 'carrier only' by itself, or the gears only (without the attendent carrier) by themselves.
  15. Pinto.........My very first car. It was a '73. The first thing I did was put headers on it, and a holley 390 with the infamous Offy "dual port intakes". I actually beat about half of all the small blocks (stock) that I ran against. Big stuff when you're 19.
  16. Comic relief, just what I needed (my wife downstairs is asking me what I'm laughing at)
  17. I can't even get mine to cook at home any more (she's better than the day I met her though)
  18. That's it. The "R" is going to be my next "add on". I've always felt something was missing on my car (besides the paint).
  19. I bet he kills more than just 2 birds with that thing.
  20. probably got kicked up by the front tire, and landed just perfect for an easy penetration into the rear tire. tooooo wierd! I guess a patch is out of the question
  21. And then there's the "fin". FIN!!!!!! Every time my wife makes reference to the spoiler on the rear of my Z, she refers to it as the "fin". "FIN!! This ain't no guppy, and that ain't no FIN" I say. Now she says it just to get my ire up. Then I heard another female make reference to a "fin" on a car, and it hit me, the XX chromosome was at play here, and not automotive initiative.
  22. That intersection of Markham and University is so rough now, that taking it at 40 mph will jar your teeth. Yesterday afternoon I took the HybridZ out for a Sunday drive. Got onto the on-ramp to I-630 and nailed it all the way through 3rd gear. Not 300 yards later, an un-marked with the blue windshield lights was in my mirror. He pulled up behind me and then went on around and got off at the hospital exit (whew!!!) I spend more time looking behind me than in front of me now days.
  23. What observation are you using to claim the "engine is strong"? The constant pull against the brakes at idle could be because of the higher required idle RPM because of the cam (or poor tuning), and the tight converter. We need more information needed to answer this question. It sounds as if perhaps the engine is out of tune, or missing on a cylinder or two, or perhaps the tranny is not starting out in 1st gear. Dun'no.
  24. And the record for the most amount of opinion communicated with the minimum number of bytes goes to the HybridZ forum, Spring of '03.
