I'm looking for some wheels, and I think the R34's look nice. They are having a clearance sale for these wheels at $85/pop. They are 16x7.5 with 15-40mm BS. Wouldn't the 15mm backspace be what I need? http://www.ronalusa.com/wheels-2002/r34.html Thanks Phyte

Who's done the Toyota upgrade and are you happy?
Phyte replied to Phyte's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey Bill. The Z is coming a long nicely. I removed that body kit, and found a complete chrome rear bumper. Next is brakes and lowering by 1inch. Then wheels/Tires. The motor I may be getting is a 355 with Dart Sportsmen II heads, forged internals, with a Comp Cam Extreme energy cam. Its got a Victor Jr and holley 780, but I'm selling that and going with a holley stealth ram. Its in my dads S10 right now, and was in one of my 69 firebirds before that. So I'm familiar with with engine and what it can do. I ran a 12.2 1/4 with that engine in my 69 bird with a 3speed and open 3.08 rear. Should be scary in my Z.. I may put rear discs on later, but thats after the V8 swap. Phyte -
heres 1 new pic of my Z..... i almost sported wood... hehe

You better post more pics! Are you going to run flares on the rear, or just have the tires stick out like that.. The reason I ask I because I'm shopping for wheels. Are those 8" wide on the back? Great looking car! Phyte -
This is my next project. The brakes on the front of my 260z are horrible. I'm just going to buy the 82-84 toyota 4x4 calipers and a good set of pads. Also I'm having the stock rotors turned. I'm not going to be road racing, so I don't need vented rotors or anything. I've read opinions about the Toyota upgrade and for the money it seems it can't be beat. Phyte

ehh, don't worry about it guys. I think I'm getting an LT1 in my garage tomorrow. I just gotta talk my dad out of it Its just a short block, but I can hunt down some heads and intake. The L28 is not getting ANY more money. Phyte

Is cutting the springs a "no no" around here.
Phyte replied to Phyte's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Ok then. To the butcher the springs shall go Sounds like cutting one loop off each will do the trick! Thanks Phyte -
I see the 4 holes its supposed to bolt to, but the bracket is so long it hits the inner fender before it even thinks about lining up on them. Even If I could bolt that bracket to the block, the compressor bolts to those 4 holes. I really don't think this is the right A/C. If not I'm tearing the engine out and putting in an LT1.. its gonna happen anyway. I'm not spending anymore money in this engine. Phyte

I've got a 74 260 with an 1978 L28 motor. The car came with an A/C compressor, fan belt, and mounting bracket with idler pulley. The seller said I can bolt it all back up. For the life of me I can't find where to bolt the bracket and the compressor. I can't find any pics online either. It looks like it goes on the drivers side under the carbs, but the A/C lines aren't long enough to reach over there from the passenger side.. can someone go snap a pic of where this thing is supposed to mount? I'm really not an idiot! Phyte

You guys do know you can redrill and tap an LT1 for a carb setup. My dad did this for my moms 56 chevy. Phyte

Ya.. that little ignition wire that I knocked off and didn't notice.. umm.. heh. Runs great Phyte

Definitely port those heads. You will see large gains with porting the stock LT1 heads. Best cam choice IMO for the LT1 is the Comp Cams cc306 followed by the LT4 hotcam. Although with a larger cam you'll loose that smoothness but you'll aproach 350rwhp. Phyte

My car ran with the flat top carbs a couple days ago. I rebuilt the SU's that came with it and adjusted them according to a whole bunch of instructions I found online. Its getting fuel, but it just won't fire I thought SU's were pretty much supposed to run no matter what, it was just tuning them. The rebuild went perfect and I know I did it right on each one. I've rebuilt many a carbs before. What else could be causing this.. I'm desperate!! Its 4:15 am!!!! Phyte

Just do what Nic-Rebel450CA said. Order two rebuild kits from http://www.partsamerica.com for $14.99/per. I just ordered some and they should be here on tuesday. Phyte

TPI intakes are made for low end torque. After about 4600 rpm they completely fall on their face because they just can't flow anymore. There is a lot of after market goodies for TPI's like siamese runners, but they cost more then they are worth. You can't beat the low end torque of a TPI because it has such long runners. The shorter the runner the higher the rev range. You can port a TPI base and plenum to get a little more RPM out of it. If you want an engine to rev high and pull hard on the top end replace the TPI with an converted LT1 intake, or something like a TPIS miniram($$) or holley stealth ram. Another option is to save the money and use the TPI. Then apply the money saved towards an ATI procharger Phyte

Why buy the whole camaro? Just get the 350 and T-5. Make sure whoever takes it out doesn't mangle the wiring harness. Make sure the motor is out of an 87+ iroc, 85 and 86 weren't availble with a 350. With the 87+ you get the serp belt and its a roller block. Plus the L98 heads can put down some serious power with a good port and larger valves. I'm buying a built L98 TPI from my dad that should put about 350 to the rear wheels. They are really great motors even though they can't breathe over about 4600rpm. I'm selling the TPI and going with an LT1 intake from http://www.lt1intake.com to rev it up to about 6 grand. Phyte

Gentlemen, I didn't know this subject was such a sensitive one I gotta start looking around for a motor. More then likely I'll stick with the inexpensive L98 motor that my dad has(one of about 20 motors). Its a full roller block(87) with already ported L98 heads and cam. For $300 I can't beat that deal! I'll toss a T-5 behind it and go to the races. Phyte

Thanks. I was looking at the price of I/C's and larger turbo's and the price starts getting up there for the I6. I think I'll just stick with a V8. I can get an L98 TPI for $300 complete off of a family member. I think I'm going that route. I know TPI doesn't breath worth crap, but its still possible to get 400hp out of one with some porting. And besides, at that price I can sell the TPI and get an LT1 intake Thanks Phyte

I'm trying to decide if I really do want to go with an LT1, or a turbo motor from a zx. I've always had V8's, but it would be a nice change to a turbo inline 6. How does the cost compare between the two? Phyte
