  1. the radiator fan, the really loud one. which witch should we burn? haha couldnt help myself.
  2. I just finished searching this forum for *loud fan* problems, but I couldnt find it. My problem is, Ever since I drove to Seattle from Montana in blistering 100 degree heat my Fan has been on the ultra high jet setting, It gets louder and louder and spins faster and faster with the rpms... its starting to get on my nerves considering its october and its now 40 degrees and I dont need a rediculous fan for cooling. my car is a stock 1978 280z 5speed, I want to know if I can just unplug this, or if there is a complicated procedure to deal with it.
  3. mine does the same thing, never had a problem with the noise, but it does get noisy, so I got a glass pack. Its just a noise.
  4. I replaced everything fromt he MAF back to the Throttle body, it didnt change it. Does the tubing from the Air filter box to the MAF make a big difference? that has the biggest hole in it. Its weird, it only does it when when coming from driving to a stop sign, you put the clutch in and the RPMS dip down to 600 and the volt meter drops and then comes up back to normal and it does that once or twice then goes away and idles a little shaky. thats all it ever does, never when the throttle is engaged.
  5. hey, ya im all over the place. its been giving me crap and idling ruff after the last event on the airforce base, im hoping its all of the rubber tubing by the Throttle body/MAF thats electrical taped shut. It'll give me and excuse to re-do everything this winter.
  6. due to popular demand i have removed the mesh lol, I was just testing it out for the week, but it looked silly. so off with it.
  7. its just because im a rebel lol. ya, drivng plays a BIG part in auto-x and any proffesional driving, I cant wait to go to the Skip Barber racing school to get my IMSA this winter, then its Targe Newfoundland Road Rally time, vrrooom vrroom.
  8. I See people with throttle bodies, carbs do it all the time, no filter, just straight up Open. How Safe Is it? What is the consequence of doing it? and what is the Postive ?
  9. unconventional, resourceful, say what you will but I took off the front bumper, and the silly absorbers, remounted the horns/electrical wires attached to the mounts and put the thin peice back on, bolted, then it moved a little to much so I zip tied for JDUM points, and then I used some old grill material I had, Looks tacky, but will be better when its lowered and put together correctly. You get the jist of it however. For the rear, its not so bad. You drop the tank, take the bumpers off, blah blah blah, take out the rear wood to expose two bolts on each side to take off so that the absorbers will drop out, then you reach for your sheet metal, or bondo. whatever your weapon of choice is.
  10. After being in the SCCA since I was 13 running Shifter karts, I have found myself to enjoy it alot more to build a Car how I enjoy it and not to the rule book, and fully built LS1 Z cars on large courses usually get the same or very minimal times as my Stock motor/body/suspension 280z with Hoosier a6's and bassett racing wheels, just a thought on the side, its not how well you build a car, its how well you drive it. Case in point, sr.stig from top gear.
  11. My Z will be mostly a street driver, other than the weekend races and the Targa Newfoundland Road rally coming up in 2010... gotta get my IMSA racing license renewed.
  12. Nice, I made it to an invite only Auto-X in my E-stock 78 280z that is bone stock down to the bushings and has 20 year old maxxis tires on it, and the auto-x is on an airforce base next weekend so I'll be skipping homecoming to go to that.. Im ordering http://www.bassettwheel.com/ the 4 lug 15x8 and 15x10 with hoosier A6 245/50/R15. $900 Tires > $320 Racing wheels... haha and those are just the track wheels, for street wheels im ordering centerline 17x8 venturas $1300 and Toyo Proxes 235/40/17 $500.... what kind of racing are you going to be doing on your car?
  13. your gonna have to find perfect wheels to fill those honkin wide bodies out! Take your time and do it right, should turn out great. I got my first Z last spring, at the age of 16. I was so happy to find mine, lol sorry to thread jack, keep us updated!
  14. how much power difference did you see with your headers?
  15. I helped my brother make a kill switch for his car that automatically locks the doors and all latches at the same time as the switch is flipped using a magnetic case on the hoodlatch so that it cant be lifted up. Im pretty sure they were some strong magnets off ebay that died a week later but it worked for a couple months
  16. devil Z... I dunno that is one of the best contrasting places to shoot in my town that ive found, (bozeman Montana) thats where i shot all my saab photos.
  17. got pictures now, 81zxt charcoal grey. on my 78 280z
  18. Lets see those Unswapped L28 280Z'S! Ill start off, mine isnt to special, just a stock 280z thats about to get a total make over and built L28. 105k on the odometer, 50k on the engine/5 spd trans.
  19. what wheels are those? size width offset, and what tires are you running? I LOVE! the way that car sits, and mine will sit like that, its getting dropped 2.5" and I need some sick wheels to go with its sick stance!
  20. Beautiful Z! that is a great job! Ive always wanted to see what those wheels looked like in black, Im painting mine later this week after theget a sandblasting treatment. hopefully Ill have clearance, my Z is getting dropped 2.5" this week. 2 things: A.Who did your paint job? dont mind me asking but how much did it run you? B.Do you have a thread on how to switch the fuse's to the walmart schosche boxes? im electrically challenged, Im starting my electronic analysis and wiring class next semester
  21. my 1978 280z is a 81ZXT Medium Gray poly, but it has a sliver/brown flake in it.
  22. I already know challenger or flatblackz is gonna but in here soon so Ill add some advice, A (use the search Button) B Tokico has a couple different strut options depending on what ride style/amount of adjustability you want. C If you can afford it, almost always go for coil-overs if your doing serious driving. Any aftermarket Suspension will be stiffer than stock, and Im about to drop my Z 2.5" from stock with stock wheels so dont worry about clearance unless you have 15x8 or bigger. I know of KYB,Tokico and some other less heard of companies making struts, and then for springs you have Eibach,Tokico,AZC.
  23. Ok let me rephrase my question, what would be a reasonable Injector size to use with Megasquirt and medium cam? (this is for a different set-up than the stock EFI, I wasn't aware of the stock EFI/upgraded injectors not being compatible.)
