The car looks great. What I want to know is can you get just the dash??? Would make it alot easier to put gauges in if you had a dash like the one in this car!! Just a thought! HB280ZT

Hi All, While researching how to make on car adjustable LCA I came across some QA1 double adjusters. If you look in my galley you will see a picture. Also here is a like to two different web sites: http://www.cheperformance.com/cartgenie/prodInfo.asp?pid=62&cid=8 and if you look at page 36 of this pdf you will find more info: http://www.qa-one.com/qa1_ind2005.pdf I hope this helps some one. I may try this at a later date, I have to get my brakes up to speed (bad pun!!) before I can do anything else to the car. HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I have a simple question or I think it should be. What is the resistance on the 280ZX turbo plug wires? I have NGK's and they have a range from 5.5K to 7.5K ohm's of resistance. To me that is way to high. I am uses to SBC and you have wires that have only 50 ohm's of resistance, that is all. I even looked in my FSM and it came up with the wires are good as long as they do not have more then 30,000 ohm's of resistance!! No way, 30,000 ohm's!! That is alot of voltage drop on those wires!! So if you all can check a few of your wires and let us know what is good for you brand. Thanks HB280ZT

Phil1934, Chevette springs??? How did you come up with them as replacement for the Z? Will they be used in the front or rear or both? What are there rates? Can't wait to see what they do for you. HB280ZT

Thanks for the info. Right now I am running 25" tires and plan to stay with them. Now I may go wider in time but right now my 225 x 60 R15 are just fine. The only problem that I have with going lower is that I am running a 3" exhaust and it hanges down very low so I either need to try and move it up but I can only go so far or see what I can do about getting some custom springs made. Or I can just go with the adjustable ones like Ross sells?? Thanks again but hope to see more info on this subject. HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I am trying to figure out my suspension better. I have replaced the struts with KYB in the front and I still have to get the back replaced, to much cold weather and snow right now to do that. I did find out that whom ever replaced the struts before used Monroe Matics, yuk!! And I do have new struts in the back but they are junk so they will be replaced with KYB's. So here is what I am after. My measurement from wheel center to fender edge is as follows: Front is 15 1/4" Stock I think, not really sure! Rear is 15" does have 2+2 springs! I hope to get measurements from others with 280Z, both stock and with after market springs, please tell me what springs you have. That way I can determine what I need to do to fix my ride height problem. Also I did a search but did not find anything like I am asking for. Thanks for your help. HB280ZT

Also something else to think about is how the tire will change when you are really getting on it in a corner!! Tires do flex side to side some in heavy cornering! Good luck! HB280ZT

I would also recommend the UltraFlo with a 3" mandrel bent exhaust system. I finished mine about 3 weeks ago, 3†dp with 3†mandrel bent pipe, Dynomax UltraFlo Welded (17221) and it sounds great. Most definitely does not sound like your average rice rocket!! No fart machine here!!! I have noticed a decrease in spool up time and it just plan runs a lot better now then it did on the old somewhat stock system (factor dp with a 2.5†crush bent system). Best of luch with whatever you decide. HB280ZT

Hi All, I came across this in my last Summit catalog and I was wondering what you all think? http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=aca-gr-7005&x=12&y=6 It sorta solves the problem of having to find a place to put extra guages in the 280Z, and it also makes it easier to see most of the specs in just one look. I am not crazy about the 12,000 rpm tach though. HB280ZT

Change headgasket and studs, or leave it as it is? + some more Q's
HB280ZT replied to pjo046's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
pjo046, I have a turbo setup from James and it works great. I also got the T3/T04B setup and I like it alot. It was easy to install, only had to change one part on the intake side and trim the original output pipe in two places to make it fit correctly. I would recommend that you use a 3AN line to supply oil to your turbo. Here is where to get the fittings that you will need to make this work: http://www.batinc.net/files/metric.pdf I had to get a 3AN x M10 X 1.0 Convex union to adapt to the output oil block on the motor and I am waiting for the 3AN X 1/4 NPT fitting for the turbo input. You have to be very careful on the input because you do not have a lot of room to work. If you want more info drop me a line because I just put my turbo on and got it running over the holiday. What are you plans for the starting point of this install? Will you be running an intercooler and some type of upgraded FMU? If not ask james to get you the lower pressure wastegate actuator to start with because mine came with a 15 psi actuator and I am not ready to put on the rest of the parts needed to use that much boost. Enough for now but drop me a line if you have anymore questions. HB280ZT -
Hi All, I am back and I have the d*^% thing running!! Would you believe that I added 3 more gallons to the 7 already in the tank and it started right up . Why would 10 gallons be the magic number?? I still do not have a clue on this one! Because when I filled it up at the station it took 9 more gallons The tank should only hold 16 gallons total!! I will have to run it for a bit and see if I have any problems using 12-13 gallons of fuel. Well I hope someone can shed some light on this one. Also it sound really good with the 3" exhaust !! Thanks HB280ZT

HI All, Well here I am with a pressure problem and I can not for the life of me figure it out. For starts it is a 77 280Z with an 82 ZXT motor and trans. The wiring is all 77 including the AFM, ECU and such. I had to replace my gas tank so while I was at it I put in a MSD 2225 high pressure fuel pump. I also replaced all of the rubber lines and was trying to start the car up. But for some reason I am only getting 10psi on my pressure guage?? The pump has been primed and is wired up correctly, Blue/green wire to + and black to -. So what could be my problem????? I have the system hooked up like it was when I had the factor pump in. The fuel pickup is the top line and the return is the bottom line on the passenger side of the lower gas tank. Also I have about 6 gallons of gas in the car. What is the fuel damper for??? Should I keep it in the system or just get rid of it?? I have a good picture of the fuel pump but I am not allowed to post pictures or atleast that is what the system is telling me. Oh well. I hope someone can help me out here I really want to drive my car tomorrow with my new 3" all mandrel bent exhaust system . Thanks HB280ZT

Jumblies, Where in NC do you live? Here is a number to a Z yard in Virginia Beach, VA that has many Z's with good rear windows. Give Barry a call and see what he wants for one. East Coast Z 757-543-6608 HB280ZT

MaxbOOst, I have looked for the harness (Apexi does not show one for the 77 280Z) but remember that they did not have a turbo in the 77 280Z. But if anyone can come up with a harness that would be great, alot less work and I should be able to put it in without freezing!! HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I guess no one has ever put a turbo timer on a 77 280Z. That means if it is not to cold tomorrow and it does not snow again I will have to take the column apart and see which wires are active in run and which ones are not active when off. Have a happy holiday season!! HB280ZT

how do you use megasquirt and msd boost master timming together
HB280ZT replied to gexgexgexgex's topic in MegaSquirt
Yes the MSD 6BMT is a stand alone multiple spark enhancer. It also gives you a RPM limiter and the ability to retard the timing by using the retard knob. You can retard by 1 to 3 degrees per pound of boost up to 20 degrees I think. I have one on my 77 280Z with factor wiring and ECU with an 82 ZXT motor and it works!! I am also looking into putting on the MS/MS&S with the 6BMT and have been looking around for wiring changes needed or other changes needed to make this combo work. Any .02 would be helpful. Also the MSII soounds pretty good, just need more info!! HB280ZT Now have a turbo capable of 15psi+ now I just need MONEY and the rest of the parts to put it to good uses!!!! -
Hi All, Well I came across this in my new Sports Z Mag. It is a plug-n-play alternator upgrade for the Z's. How does a 105 or 120 amp internal regulated alternator sound that you just drop in. Talk to the Z man about it and here is his web site: http://www.zspecialties.com/ Look in the hot products section. I will be getting one after Xmas. I hope this helps someone else. HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I just received my new Apexi turbo timer. Well the wiring diagram is not very good. It just says use a harness! Well they do not make a harness for a 77 280Z with a turbo motor. So how do I wire it into the system. I looked at the 77 wiring diagrams and they do not really help. So here is my question. Where do I wire the following: Blue wire to IG1 ???? Green wire to IG2 ??? I hope some on here that has put in a turbo timer can help. Thanks HB280ZT

Bryan, Something to think about is the rpm range you want to shoot for. When I autocrosses my 280Z I ran it in 2nd and was just starting to get into the turbo when I had to let off. Also I think the stock turbo starts coming on about 2800 rpm. So talk to a turbo shop and tell them what rpm range you want and they can really help you out. As for the TO4E it is not a direct replacement because you have to add a 1/2 inch spacer to clear either the intake or the exhaust I can not remember which one. Now the TO4B is a dierct replacement. I know this is not an answer but it is what I found out taking to James at http://www.speedshopthagard.com/ ! He also has done many custom turbo setups plus a Z or two. Give him a call and talk to him about what you want. Just my .02!! Have fun HB280ZT T3/TO4B in the mail!!! YES!!!

Thanks bastaad525 for that information, 2.25 sound like a good starting point. Now if I could get some information on the best way to route the I/C piping that would be great. Mostly because I am having a problem picturing how to route all the pipes in my mind, you know a I/C is a terrible thing to waste You know a 3†intake pipe, filter and AFM plus a 2.25†I/C pipe, and they both have to go thru the drives side radiator support. Here is my Intercooler information: R.S. AKIMOTO I/C 26†tank end to tank end with 2.75†openings 20†core 8†tall 3.5†wide It would be nice to see some pictures of how you did it! You know the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks all! HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I am trying to figure out what size piping to use with my turbo and I/C. Here are some specs: turbo out is 2" with the I/C having 2 3/4 in/out and of course I have a 60mm throttle body. So is it better to run a 2" line to the I/C and then up it to 2 3/4. Then come out of the I/C with a 2 3/4 size it down to a 2 1/4 so it matches the T/B???? Or should I just run 2 1/4 all the way?? It is my understanding that it is better to keep the volecity of the air up so stay with the 2" to the I/C. Also if you increase the size of the piping it slows the charge down, correct?? Which in turn means the air takes longer to get to the TB. SO???? Any .02 will be helpful on this one! Thanks for your help! HB280ZT

Hi All again, Well I guess I get to answer my own question. It looks like the turbo is toast!! I guess atleast 30 thousandth of an inch of end play on the compressor side of the turbo That is not good at all. So I guess I get to look into a better turbo Now what do I want to do????? We will see. I just wish I could post some pictures to show you all what the compressor looks like!! Oh well. HB280ZT [/img]

I understand that I can put anything there that I want, but I was wondering if the car every came with a set of switches to start with. If so where can I get one?? HB280ZT

Hi All, Here is some more information. On the way to work this morning I noticed that as you accelerate the noise increases in pitch and as you get off the gas the noise reverses. Also when I am at 20 in vac I barely hear the noise but as the turbo winds up it gets more audible (10 in vac very noisy). I am also now hearing it all the way through my exhaust . So could this be a turbo starting to go??? With the new clutch install I need to put some miles on it before I can really wind it out and see if I can still make 5-6 lbs of boost. Any .02 will help Thanks HB280ZT
