Hi All, This is for a 77 280Z. On my concole there is a place next to the antenna switch that is set up to handle 2 switches I think. What goes there? HB280ZT

HI All, Well I just got finished fixing one problem a bad clutch and now I have this strange noise. It sounds like when you start the car and the starter does not engage. But mine is doing it in all gears above 2000 rpms. It also only does this under load, because I have tried to do it sitting in my driveway with no luck. So what do you all think?? Oh yea the stats: My car is a 77 with an 82 turbo motor and datsun 5 speed. I just replaced the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. I also put in a new clutch master and slave cylinder.

Hi All, Well I was just wondering if anyone has tried some of the new headlight replacements that use an H4 and a H3 bulb in a single 7 inch round light?? I came across them while I was searching on ebay. I was thinking about using the smaller H3 as a daytime running light and the H4 for night driving. What do you all think? I can wire them in without any problems it is just that I would like to hear if someone else has already done this mod. If you have what brand light housing did you use? Thanks HB280ZT 8)

Hi All, Well I am putting my new clutch in and I can not find the torque specs for the 6 pressure plate bolts. I have 2 different manuals but they just don't say what the torque is? So?? what is it?? Thanks HB280ZT

Nice IC man!! Only one question: Where are you going to get fresh air from for the turbo??? Not much room on the drivers side for a 3" air intake and filter!! HB280ZT -
Hi All, I came across these part numbers on another site, here they are: Seal 32709-14600 O-ring 32709-14600 They are both Nissan part numbers!! I hope this helps. HB280ZT

Hi All, Well my 77 280Z had a transplant several years ago, 82 280ZXT motor and trans. Well the idiot that did it did not swap out ECU, wiring harness and all the other items used on the turbo motor. Well I managed to find a 83 280ZXT with everything but the AFM and I got it all for $150 . Now my question is about a silver box above the ECU on the drivers side kick panel. What is it and do I need it You see it was gone on the car I pulled my parts from but I saw one on a NA car. Also are they the same from NA to turbo This post should help me do the conversion. Now I just need to fix the plugs that were broken, all 6 injector plugs and one other I an not sure what it is. Thanks again. HB280ZT

Well I have to say changing out injectors is a PITA!! Of course as soon as I took the connectors off I found that all of them were broken !! So it was off to the u-pick it to see what I could find. Well I found an 87 Maxima that had new connectors . Pulled them and it cost me $5 for the set, not bad! After rewiring the injectors and putting them back in the car, it started on the first crank (long crank)!!! I have to say that the car idles better now and revs pretty good. I will have to see how well it runs tomorrow. Now I just have to run it hard for a bit and check the plugs to see what the system is doing! HB280ZT

I just got my injectors back from witchhunter and they look great. Not to mention that after Gordon did his magic on them they flowed within 1cc of each other, not bad. I hope to get them in the car and and running tomorrow if everything works out as planned, yea right. Best of luck! HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I installed the FICD but I see no change in the HV/AC and I get nothing when I put a vacuum guage on the dashpot, by the way I have the lower port blocked off. Also I see vacuum on soleniods S1 and to S2 through the vacuum bottle. However I get no vacuum at soleniod D. So what do I try now??? I am not even sure if the soleniods work but I have replaced them. Can anyone give me a good diagram of how the HVAC works and what I should be seeing and where?? Also in which modes do the soleniods activate?? ie Def, heat, etc? Also I noticed on the 280ZXT they have an electric vacuum pump. Do I need to add one of these to make my setup work?? Thanks for your help. HB280ZT

Thanks all for the info. Now technicalninja I have a part that I got from a turbo Z motor but I was not sure what it was. It has 2 ports on it a 5/16 port of the lower side and an 1/8 on the top. I have a picture of it but I can not figure out how to post it, go figure. It is not very big but it does resemble a small diaphram type item. From a picture that I have of another Turbo Z motor it is located about 3" in front of the POV/BOV and next to the forward part of the EGR. If this is the part that you are talking about then I am in luck!! Also I just noticed in the same picture that the rear vacuum take off has a little value of some kind in the line??? Is this a one way value so that when you are into boost only vacuum is let into the system?? Thanks for all your help. I really need to get this working because it really sucks not being able to at least defog the windshield when it fogs up. Thanks again!! HB280ZT

Hi All, Well I am having vacuum issues with my AC/heater controls and was wondering what others did to fix the problem. Car specs first: 77 280Z 82 280ZX turbo motor On the 280Z you have a dash pot that is connected to the D solenoid with standard vacuum to the S1 solenoid, then to the bottle and back to S2 solenoid. Well the ZX motor does not have the dash pot and it has no provision to add one. So how did you all that have ZXT motors in a Z get the AC/heater controls to work correctly? Oh yes I did check the lines and then are good! Thanks HB280ZT

So the 2 5/8's is the gauge for me, thanks. As for the boost signal I do not have a gauge so I do not know where to get the signal from. Also someone else installed the motor/trans and I am now cleaning up the mess. So if you all can point me in the right direction for a good boost signal that would be great. Thanks HB280ZT

OK, Z folks I know a few of you have put boost gauges where the old clock was located in Z cars. Well I have a 77 280 with an 82 280ZXT motor and I would like to do the same thing. I just have not been able to find the size Autometer gauge used. So here a few question: 1 - what size gauge did you use, 2 1/8 2 5/8 etc.? 2 - any tricks to getting the gauge out? 3 - where did you pull vacuum/boost from? From the intake does not work! Also pictures would be great! Thanks HB280ZT

I did a search and did not find what size Autometer gauge is used when you replace the clock? Also any tricks to install the gauge? This will be for my 77 280Z. Thanks

Thanks again for the information. I am not sure if I want to go with a stand alone system or not. I don't like the idea of having to play with the system alot to set it up and to keep it running. I do not have a dyno around to do the tuning that is required with a stand alone system. Also if I went with a stand alone I would probably go with the Mega Squirt system, I am an Electrical Engineer after all!! So, would the factor setup be a place to start from or should I keep the jury rigged NA system? Right now my NA harness is pretty much jury rigged together to make the turbo motor work. My AFM is AFU mostly because the shop had to solder the internal parts together to make the car run, which is running to rich at this time and fouling plugs. As for how much the potentiometer in the AFM has been moved around I am not sure because they never put any reference marks before they moved it. Also what is the difference between the NA and the turbo AFM? I guess it all comes down to what I want to do with the car!! For now i just want it to run good and be dependable and maybe get better then 15-16 MPG. Then maybe a few more pounds of boost Now what is this about JWT making you replace everything to use there systems?? I though from there site, they use the factory wiring with a few mods like MAP vs AFM and reprogram the factor ECU? Let me know if I am way off here? Also any info concerning JWT would be great! So, thanks all for the help! Now I just wish I could find a whole 82ZXT cheap! HB280ZT

Thanks for the quick reply. For starts I think the motor is not running at its best with the 77 computer and harness. When I decide to upgrade for more power I think the older setup will only cause me more problems. Not to mention the Z shop that did the work had to jury rig a few items to make them work like the AFM for starts. I am also having problems with vacuum for the car and only the A/C works and not the heat at all and when you try to drive the car in the winter its a PITA!! As for how the car runs I think the only reason it is running halfway decent is because of the MSD 6BTM that I installed to help with the pinging. I am also having problems with the plugs getting fowled. So like I said where to start?? Thanks again for the help. HB280ZT

Hi All, This is my first post so be gentle with me. The site is great and I am glad to see how people like to help each other out when they have problems, keep up the great work. I will start with some background information: 1977 280Z with an 82ZX turbo motor and 5-speed. This setup is still using the original 77 wiring harness, computer, distributor and other parts that I am still finding out about. This disaster was installed at Harry’s Z Shop in Miami, Fl., thank god the shop is closed now because my car is really messed up and I would not wish that on anyone else. So here are my questions: 1. Should I upgrade to the 82 computer and wiring harness? 2. What else should I upgrade to make this setup work better then what I currently have? 3. Eventually I want to make more power (300-350 RWHP) and have contacted JWT to that end. But right now they are still on holiday and I have not received anything from them. So what to do? I have found a complete 82-turbo car and the guy wants $500 for the computer, wiring harness, distributor and all of the little parts that go with the harness. What else should I look at doing? Any .02 cents would be appreciated. Thanks! HB280ZT
