  1. I know it's redneck, but I think it will work as long as I weigh all rods at the same time. Total expense: $33.75. 20 bucks for the digital scale, and 13.75 for the base from radio shack. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7657&size=big&cat=664 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7656&size=big&cat=664 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7655&size=big&cat=664 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7654&size=big&cat=664 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7653&size=big&cat=664 This is just the setup before it goes to the workbench. I'm going to clamp the base to the bench and mark on the scale where the socket sits. The way I figure this will work the best is; weigh all rods at one time, taking the average of each rod measurement to be its true weight (right now the readings are within 1 gram from each data point) Record all rods, big end and little, along with total weight at a given time. Do a bit of grinding or polishing, depending on the weight reduction needed. Re-weigh often. I'll do the same with the pistons. Anything I'm messing up here?
  2. I think you may be better off in the long run by swapping over, but it's your call of course. I think my 260 has been converted to parts car now, so give me a call if you need anything else. Grant
  3. The grandfather is dreaming and wanting 1000 for it all. I have no use for most of it, if someone needs something, pm me and I'll see what I can do.
  4. How about the rear hubs w/disk brakes? Certianly rusty, but usable?
  5. The donor car had 43k on it and was a rollover (friend's grandpa said this) Friend and brother took the car and removed everything, then used a sawzall and cut up the body and sold it for scrap. It has been in this old dusty garage for several years. (friend's screwy brother took ac compressor, starter and a few other things off and ebayed them) The old guy now has medical problems and needs cash. Would the 5 speed be worth using?
  6. I went to a friend's grandpa's house yesterday and took these pictures of what he said was an RB motor and transmission. Obviously this isnt, but what is it and what is it from? This guy's grandpa got the entire drivetrain from a mid to late 80's Nissan (grandkid said 300zx, but dont think so) The taillight pics are from the donor car, as are the wheels. The yellow car is a Triumph that he was going to transplant all of this into. Is it worth getting any of this? I have a 75 280z that I'm rebuilding the engine with triple webers, ported head, aggresive cam, header, etc... I know the tranny is a 5 speed and may be worth pursuing, but the rest looks, blah.. Tell me what you guys think http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7620&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7619&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7615&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7613&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7612&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7611&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7610&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7609&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7607&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7603&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7602&size=big&cat=661 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=7601&size=big&cat=661
  7. Isk, that fender has been hanging for almost a year, it may have gotten distorted, I tried to hang it by the center, where the upper frame pads touched. Good luck, sorry it doesnt fit.
  8. Isk, give me a call, I have one you can pick up for free, and I'm local. Its a left one, but needs some work on the bottom. Grant
  9. As a former owner of a SS, I can tell you to read the door tag carefully. An SS starts its life as a Z28, then it was shipped to SLP engineering, the hood, spoiler, wheels, exhaust and badges were changed, then poof! Its an SS. If you see 1LE in the options on the door, then it has suspension upgrades such as aluminum driveshaft, koni adjustable struts, etc... 1LE SS's are very rare, mostly on stripper Z28's, they were known for being good handlers though. Big picture is buy the Z28. The things that make an SS special you wont be transferring anyways. Good luck!!
  10. They showed it in several replays during the race, then from other car's in-car cameras. The only ones that caught the airtime were the stationary cameras.
  11. I saw this one on TV either last weekend or the one before. It bumped another racer and got the short end of the stick. Flew pretty far. Kinda cool that it managed to not dig in and do a death roll. Grant
  12. I see there is a heat shield of some kind under the carbs, can you give me some info on how you made that. I'm building an L28 w/triple webers, I know the header will pour heat into them and am trying to figure a way around that, I was thinking a heat blanket or sleeves, but prefer a metal shield to try to separate the hot air from the intake charge. Thanks, Grant
  13. Title says it all. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1978-Datsun-280Z_W0QQitemZ4639610999QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. I'm FINALLY making some progress on my engine build, I've uploaded the photo's to my folder here: http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=648 Thanks to Braap and Isk for the help/advice and the parts. I'll be calling Isk for some weber tuning help soon, I hope! Thanks
