  1. ALL 300ZXT shafts had a 4 bolt compnaion flange, not a 6 bolt. You have a 280ZXT shaft or a 300ZX non turbo shaft.
  2. I need some info. I am doing a 73 240Z V8 swap. I live in California...or Satins ******* when it comes to smog as i like to call it. The law that i see is that engine swaps can be done as long as the engine that is being put in is the same year or newer. That being the case, i have to say that i have a 73+ Chevy 350 block in there. Were there any Chevy's in 73 that didnt have emmisions? I thought that all that started hard core in 75. Is there a 350 block that didnt have all that crap that i can say i used for my engine? If not, what are others in CA doing? If i have to deal with emmisions, what kind of emmisions were used?
  3. I got some pics on my site...hopefully i will have more of the engine bay's progress tomorrow night. http://www.magshooterz.com/Swap.htm
  4. So after a long waited year, i have finaly started my V8 swap. I got the engin out today and will have the engine bay preped, primed and painted by this time tomorrow...with some luck. I will have pictues on my site and will post the link as soon as i can. Its all comming together...IM SO EXCITED!
  5. Im almost positive that the bolt pattern is different. There were 2 types of companion flanges: 2" and 2.25". All the 73-78Z's had the 2.25" pilot flange. The later models had the 2" pilot flange. Like i said, with the pilot change, the polt patern changed.
  6. Ok, using the stock design, the best axles to get are Ross' at Modern Motorsports for $700. Now i am currently running with stock 280Z axles. I havnt heard of them failing hardly ever, however, when they did its usually under race conditions where the axles are under constant stress for hours on end race after race. It really depends on how much abuse you intend to put your poor car through. The stock 280Z stubs are very stout. If you are doing a CV swap, what kind of Diff are you putting in. A stock R200 LSD can only take so much as well. Anything over 450 hp (i believe) or so should be looking at an R230. Ross' stubs are stronger. Or hey, go solid rear axle! Have fun with that swap though. I'll be doing my swap here in the next few weeks. Chevy 355 LS1 T-56 **** load of fun! http://www.magshooterz.com/V8240Z.htm
  7. R200 CLSD installed in a 73 240Z. I LOVE IT! All the info you will need is on my site. P/M me with any questions. http://www.magshooterz.com/R200Info.htm All the R200's from 86+ are the same. The oned from the 300ZXT's had the CLSD.
  8. Wheelman is correct. All Z31 300ZXT's had the 4 bolt 29 spline CV half shaft. The non turbos had the weaker tripod 6 bolt 29 spline design. If you are using Ross' Z31T half shaft adapters, you will need the half shafts from a Z31T with the 4 bolt reciever. DO NOT GET THE SHAFTS FROM THE WHITE 88SS!! THEY ARE DESIGNED TO WORK WITH THE VLSD THAT WAS AVAILABLE IN THAT CAR ONLY! More info on my site. I did exactly what you are trying to do. http://www.magshooterz.com/z31_cv_conversion.htm
  9. well...looking at the information you supplied in your post, Emphisis on the "all", would lead me to believe that its an R-200
  10. I have never heard of 2 different turbo companion flange patterns.
  11. All 84-89 Z31 Turbo's (except the white 88) have the same companion flange bolt pattern. When I ordered a pair for my swap, the part numbers for the reman. units i got were all the same for 84' to 89' turbos.
  12. are you asking that if you use he diff from the 88 turbo and the half shafts from an 86 turbo will that work? If you DONT have a VLSD, then yes, those hafl shafts will work in that diff. The adapters are designed to mate with 280Z stub axles. Do you have those? What kind of brake conversion did you do? Was it designed around the stock 240Z setup? If so, the Diff & CV conversion shouldnt interfere.
  13. I like it a lot...dunno about quieter though. Its hard for me to compare because when i did the diff installation, i used a steel strap made from 1.25" steel band that went over the diff and the diff front mount. While i still have a rubber mount under the diff, i know the strap is making it more ridged which is transmitting more noise into the cab. Its nothing bad, i hardley even noticed it...turn on some music and it disapears. Makes a little cluck (again, i think the steel band has something to do with it) but its hardly noticable...nothing more than stock. All in all, she drives about the same(except now i can do donuts!) , but i know that i can drive the hell out of her and have no problems...and with a LSD and a V8 with a 6 speed...thats exactly what im gonna do!
  14. LOL, well...I placed my order for the billet on the 10th of February and i got the adaptors on the 8th of this month. The thing was that my order when the first run was produced never shipped out and i had to wait until the second run was finished. He shipped them out to me second day air. I think its like an extra $30 if you want 3-5 day or so. You can email him if you want. The adaptors are awesome though!
  15. I got the adaptors from Ross and Modern Motorsports and finished the installation in my 73 240Z! Check it out. http://www.magshooterz.com/z31_cv_conversion.htm
  16. I have a '69 sbc 355 and a t56. Im maing my own wireing harness for the setup. Basicly the reverse lockout gets current when the brake gets pressed, the reverse lights just go to the switch in the tranny and the speedo is going to the electric speedo i have. THANKS JEFF for the part nubers!
  17. Ive got an LS1 T56 and am putting together all the components needed to get all the electrical hooked up. I am having one hell of a time finding some simple items however. I need the pigtails that connect to the reverse lights, reverse lockout and speedometer...(did i forget any? I dont care about the skipshift). anyways, i cannot find any part numbers for these items. I know people have gotten them to do a clean install on their cars. Can someone help me out. I figured that the dealer was the only place to go, but i couldnt get much help from them. These cant be all that hard to get ahold of. I also need a new rubber boot that fits over the shifter pivot assembly. Anyone got a good place to source these items? Please dont say "the junk yard". They want me to buy a $75 wire harness. Thanks.
  18. I just put in 280Z stub axles into my 73 240Z. Im getting adaptors from Ross and have my cv's ready to go. I have been looking for the torque spec for the companion flange locking nut and have gotten numbers from 130lbs/ft to 240lbs/ft and a bunch in-between. Whats the deal? does anyone know a concret number here? Or have a FSM that says what it is supposed to be? I dont want to be over tightning these bolt and destroy my stub axles. Thanks for the info! -Ryan
  19. The adaptor that you got has the chevy u joint on one side, and the the datsun differential input flange bolt pattern on the other side(for a flange with a 2.25" pilot). Being that you have a 280Z, you MAY already have this flange on your differential, if not...you will need to obtain one and install it. Basicly, this is as strong as you can get, easily that is. THis allows you to have a chevy driveshaft made up that will slip into a a chevy tranny and still bolt up to the stock datsun differential.
  20. to be more precise, its specific to R200's. I am unaware of any for an s130. The link i posted is the kit that i got and am using in my 240Z w/ R200.
  21. the 10mm bolts and 12mm bolts refer to the bolts that hold the ring gear to the carrier. They have nothing to do with the cover. For an R200 finned LSD cover: http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=38351-P9010K This is what you want if you want a finned cover. I do not believe that the first link in the original post is a finned cover. Also, this is a kit, the first one is not (thats what the "K" is for). You will get the cover, a new gasket, oil filler plug and magnetic drain plug, mounting studs and a breather tube. What you SHOULD also get (which i didnt) is a plug for the oil temp. sensor and 2 plugs for the tapped oil cooler in/outlets. I had to get mine from an autoparts store. Check with them if you order this, they should include these items.
