The RX7, 300ZX and Supras died simply because they priced themselves out of the market... Like BLKMGK said, near $50K for a supra??? They are nice cars, but DAaeUM! That is 1998 dollars we're talking too! I have said it before, and I'll say it again... The Z is gonna make it for a few years, then sales will slump. Nissan will then be back in the same boat they were in with the Z32. Yea, we are talking apples to Oranges when comparing used to new, but buying a new car makes NO sense to me, and it never will. Why should YOU take the hit on depreciation when some other sucker can... Oh used car buying is SOOO scary... Please. We're car guys here, right? Sorry, but I'll wait and MAYBE buy one used in a few years, and I damned sure won't be paying $20+K for it either... Mike

...and you guys wonder why we run such a tight ship around here.... They are out there... Mike

I'm using the Dart Conquest Head which is discontinued and has been renamed the PRO1 head... Seems to be a good head... Jamie has them right now and is gonna port them for me... Mike

Jim Most of those issues revolve around teething pains... Once you get all the right parts in place, the right electric fan works great... You live in the same area I do, so you will appreciate this next statement... I drove my car in RUSH hour FRIDAY AFTERNOON beach traffic on I95 all summer two years ago with ONLY an electric fan. The key is the proper shrouding, the right fan, with the right adjustable electric relay! I also had a 180 degree thermostat and an edelbrock aluminum waterpump! I did buy the MSA fan shroug and an Allstar 17 inch electric fan that worked well together. The thing would kick on and you could feel the air moving from the rear bumper when it kicked on... Mike

Guys, I know a lot of you have passed up deal on stuff due to shipping... I took my dimensions and weight of the T56 and plugged them into FEDEX's website and came up with approximately $58 from Viringia to Minisota, so don't get shy'ed off by that when you see a deal.. Next step is boxing this thing up... Anyone have any recommendations on boxing up a tranny? Mike

You guys are NOT gonna believe this... We were driving from Salt Lake City to MOAB back in October and SAW THIS CAR in a shopping center outside of SaltLake... It made for excellent conversation for about an hour! Mike

Yea, that is an issue on our 95 Mustang as well... I'm running RE730 275-40-17s on the back and I fry them in 1st and 2nd and chirp 3rd... and my car is mostly stock for now. I can get a complete 5.0 motor from oilpan to TB for about $500. So I'm probably gonna pick it up pretty quick. Since I've already got a chevy project I'm gonna build the ford project for our track car. Mike

It boils down to taste... Some folks call the Mustang and Corvette interiors "Plastic and Cheesy". I like them because they are functional. Drove my buddies 94 Volvo 850 Wagon a few months back... Now that is plastic and cheesy... But the Stang or a Vette? I disagree... Those cars are built pretty darned well. Nissan has struck a cord with the younger generation, but most of us guys who know what real performance is, we have differing expectations... I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again... For $30K + ('cause I'd only ocnsider the track version) I can get a LOT of car elsewhere for that kinda scratch... Good luck to Nissan, But they won't get my dollars... Mike

My personal experience has shown that Ford 302 stuff is Super cheap. The market for 79-93 stuff is just saturated, so I'd not completely count that out. Yea, 351W isn't a bad choice either, but again, the 302 stuff is SOOO available, AND GOING FI is easy with the EEC4. My white Z will likely get a 302 transplant with a Tremec 3550 from my Buddy. However, the issue of mounts is still a concern for some folks. Me, personally, it doesn't bother since I will fab my own up. But if fabricating bothers you, Then the Chevy is the way to go. The Ford is lighter, and has an ideal distributor location. So it is a strong contender... Mike

406 SBC buildup - Please Comment!

Pete, I wnt to chat with your builder and see if he'll balance my rotating parts... Thats an impressive setup you are going to have. I wouldn't worry about lugging around in 5th at 2000RPMs based on your torque and the weight of the car... You should be fine. As for the tranny, I missed out on the one I wanted, but will defenitely be going with something I can hand pick my ratios for... Since I'll be running the Infinity Q45 rear with 3:54 gears, I'll want to get a better selection than comes stock... Mike -
The wife and I had a good laugh at that one! Thanks Guys! Mike

Yup...Ding Ding Ding... MARK is the winner... Give him his prize... I found this out after I bought a 60Gallon 6HP upright sears compressor a few years back. The two stage oil units work SOOO Much longer than the regular consumer units... When Mine dies I'll upgrade to an industrial strength unit... I got mine shortly after Xmas when relatives has bought me Sears gift cards... I think I had all of $200 in the damned thing after the sale price and the certificates... Has worked fine and we are building a "Room" for it inside the garage so I won't go deaf! Mike

Yea, as a user of this site, you need to dig deeper than the surface of the site in order to use it properly... One thing you won't find here that you will find at Zcar.com is a larger selection of used Zcar stuff. However, you will find many more HP related items! I guess it is a push! Also, please use the search function when posible! Mike

What happended to Marc Sayer and Performance Engineering?
Mikelly replied to a topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
I'm pretty sure Mark has gone out of business and is done with the whole Zcar scene. In trying to keep Zcar Magazine going Mark strung himself along way to far and thin. Mark also made a number of enemies in the Zcar scene both due to the magazine issues and his personal business practices. I never had bad business dealings with him. However, I spoke with him several times when he was trying to sell the magazine to me. He was stressed and trying to sell the magazine to save his business at the time... Mike -
Well guys I saw the unit yesterday. Other than being a little dirty from being stored outside, it should be a nice working unit... made by AMMCO Corp. and I'll pick it up this coming weekend... It is a 9,000 Pound unit. Looks to be in good shape overall and should serve well in the Kelly Garage!!! I also have a lead on an alternative insulation solution for some special space age stuff that has a theoretical R54 value associated with it. I need to make sure I can get past inspection with it. If I can, I'll be buying all I need for the garage, delivered for about $600... Mike

Don, welcome to middle age! I'm with ya except for the age! I'm 36 and Rollcage Gymnastics SUCK! Mike

Denny, I'll check and see. He may know of other deals... Story on this one was that he bought it when a shop was closed. The shop received it just 6 weeks before they closed... Had very little use on it before he bought it. He took it home and put it into storage. That is where it has sat for the last two years... He did mention getting deals on these on occassion, so I'll check! Mike

Pete, Amytime after I get elctricity turned on you are welcome to come on down! Mike

Guys, remember I mentioned a while ago that I missed a deal on a twin post lift for $900??? Well come to find out, the guy had the deal fall through, and he lost my number... Friend of mine ran into him the other day and the subject came up... I'm gonna go look at it tomorrow, but short end of it is that it looks like I'm getting a BRAND NEW twin post 10,000# lift for $900!!! HOLL-EEE C-O-W!!!! I should have it installed before I have electricity in the place!!! Mike
