  1. Yep! These are the threads I was looking for. Thanks guys! Did you say FI's are popular on L24s? I'm gonna have to look for those. I have a really nice L24 in my car right now and I want to boost the piss out of it. I'm going to have to go EFI/Standalone if I want to get where I'm going though. Don't be afraid to throw me a link to an FI kit for an L24 if any of you guys know of a good one. Thanks! - A
  2. Hey guys, I searched the forum for this thread, that I am sure exists, that voices peoples opinions on EFI vs Carburation in the L-Series motor. I have always been under the assumption that EFI was always better than carb, just based simply on reliability and precision of fuel delivery, and turbo charging for that matter. What are your opinions on this? Why would someone swap carburetors onto an EFI motor?? Would anyone ever swap EFI onto an L24? Are there any benefits or drawbacks to one versus the other on our platform? - A
  3. That sounds good. I'll definitely wait until I get into my garage (end of June cross my fingers). That's great information hemi! Thanks. Hopefully I luck out in the framerails department but still all I have done is a visual inspection. Looks like I have some more work ahead of me.
  4. Wow. Look at that! I didn't realize that I wasn't looking at the floor. haha woops! Now that you show me that I am sure there is rust on the passenger floor as well. Hopefully the driver side isn't as bad. I'll have to tear it all up when I get it into the garage. Thanks for the tips tho. I might not have known to look under there and fix it if you hadn't told me about it. If it is all rusted. Should I just Cut all of the rust out and weld in a replacement floor pan? I'm just curious what the best course of action is so I don't just make it worse in the long run. Thanks for the help guys!
  5. Yeah here are the floors. Theres definitely a little rust around the grommets on the passenger side. All in all I think they are very manageable. What do you guys think? Driver: Pass:
  6. So I decided that I hate the five different colors on my car and opted for two. The **** brown that it came in, and Flat dark gray primer. I sanded down every last little bit of rusted metal (which is only a little in terms of the whole car but was still a lot of work). I pulled out all of the carpets and all of the "insulation" and cleaned and dried everything from the rain (shitty seals). I re ran a bunch of wires cleaned a ton of crap out of the car and vacuumed the carpets. Gutted the shitty stereo system and repaired the Rear strut tower cap. I think she looks like a million bucks comparatively. Check it. **** Stereo: **** Wiring: **** Primer: More of above: Wow this is shitty: So I tore out the carpets and the stereo: Pulled the carpets from the front and clean an absurd amount of **** out from under the carpets: LOL Yes that's a road flare from the 70s. This is the "Insulation" (Dead Raccoon): Fixed and cleaned rear carpet: Driver: Pass: And sanded and primed all of the **** from above: Wow I'm sore now. Time for beers.
  7. Yeah def. I signed up on your forum so I could check you guys out. It's great to finally find the local clubs! ZR8ED That's actually a really good idea. I'll look into that! Thanks.
  8. I know there's a huge club in CT but that's about it. I've posted on here asking about that but found noone. Looks like its just you and me homie. haha
  9. Hey man. All I can say is good luck. I literally looked so much for so long that I gave up! Then by chance stumbled back in for a quick peek on craigslist and there she was. I got so lucky that I couldn't really give you much good advice. I was going to ship a 75+ 280z from the west coast since a lot of them have a hard time passing smog and are cheap. You can get one shipped to RI from CA for under $1k, and you can find nice 280zs for around $1800. That puts you lower than what I paid for this one local. But to answer your question I picked it up from a real Z enthusiast in Quincy, MA. The guy was a real wealth of knowledge and really hooked me up. Best of luck in your search. When you find the right one you will just know. As for the Priming I am starting to agree. I will properly treat all of the spots that are left and get a better primer. Can't be effing around with the climates around here being the way they are.
  10. Ok that sounds good. It is going to be spending most of the time in my garage anyway. Will the paint job cost more if they have to sand and reprime it? Don't they have to do that anyway?
  11. Hey guys, I just picked up a Z that is in need of some paint love. I can't afford to paint it now. I have heard that you should not get a sh*tty paint job "just for now" because then it is a lot more work to strip it and get it ready for the "real" paint job later. My question is, is priming the whole thing different? I have obviously been touching up the bare/rusty spots with sandpaper and priming over the spots, but she is starting to look like a Zzzombie. Would it cost more to paint it later if I primed the whole thing in black now and drove it around like that? Or, should i just leave it looking like poo until I can afford a proper paint job. I am about 6 months to a year away from throwing down for a top notch paint job. Here are some pics: -=XD=-
  12. 8k would sound like lunacy for any normal car, but given the amount of body work a typical Z would need, it could be close. Unless you are going to the best of the best, I would get another quote. Ask someone you know who got something similar done. That would be the route I'd take. Has anyone on here had a full blast paint and restore done for them? If so how much did they pay. Who did they use?
  13. I'm sure its hard to tell from the pics but the previous owner took excellent care of her. All it needs is a little paint and some body touchups and shell be a real showpiece. Especially when you factor in the car being from the northeast. Rust free cars are unheard of up here. I am truly blessed to have found her.
  14. I am so stoked right now. First mini photoshoot with my first Z. http://picasaweb.google.com/alex.straffin/Z# -=XD=-
  15. Hey guys, I have been waiting a long time for this post. After scouring the Internet for almost a year, considering shipping from CA, AZ and beyond. I have finally found "The One" in my own back yard (Boston/Quincy, MA). For the record I have been on Craigslist every single day searching in a 250 mile radius for the perfect S30. At 7:00pm on March 5th 2010 I bought her. My 1973 Datsun 240z More pics to come. What a day. -=XD=-
  16. PBR is only ok if you're drinking by yourself.
  17. I liek the Hybrid Z logo but think it would look best without the Car silhouette as a sticker.
  18. Damn. Only one year? Looks like I've got some searching to do. - A
  19. Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you know what years the Silver w/red interior S30 Zs were available. I don't see a lot of them for being such a sweet combo. - A
  20. lol Tell me about it! I have looked at many Zs up here and they have all been trash so far. This one looks the most promising. What I was looking for was maybe someone who had done it to chime in and tell me how much it cost them. I don't know if it costs $200 or $2000. Or if I can do it myself. I am very good at learning how to do stuff on my own. Just thought someone would have some experience with it that they wouldn't mind sharing. Here is the car: -=XD=-
  21. I am looking at a Z in the northeast with some framerail rusting. How much does it cost to fix something like this on average? How much rust is too much to try and fix on a set of framerails? Thanks guys, - Alex
  22. I wanna see some "Spirited driving videos!" This thing is gonna be great.
  23. +1 Dope track. But the Best song from Tokyo Drift was definitely this.
